"Thank you," she said in a cute voice and stepped over the threshold into the night. It was amazing how quiet it seemed with the music shut up in the building. Now there was just a dull roar of the bass as it vibrated the foundation from inside. She hadn't realized how loud the music really was until she could compare it to the silence of the night. Even with people still going in and out of the club, it was such a drastic difference.
Being the end of October they were lucky to only have to deal with the rain. It wasn't even falling that hard. More like a little drizzle that was common for the area and time of year. Amelia pulled the hood on her robes over her head to keep her hair from getting wet and frizzy. The wind wasn't even that strong tonight. It seemed Mother Nature was being kind to them, knowing they were walking to the pub.

Kyle chuckled softly at the rain. It had been clear earlier, but it was typical of England in October for it to start drizzling at a moment's notice. It was a relief, though, because vampires were less likely to prowl in the rain, for the simple reason that people were less likely to be wandering about aimlessly.
He felt he should offer her his cloak, or an umbrella or something, but as always, she was prepared. Putting up his own hood, he leaned in close to her. "You're not cold or anything, are you?"

"Oh no," she replied. "I'm still fairly warm from dancing. And then even just being in the club was toasty." She had been moving quite a bit and was fairly hot while sitting inside the stuffy club. Now the cold was welcoming and comfortable.
They crossed onto a side street that would eventually lead them to the High Street. She noticed they had not crossed earlier, clearly he didn't want to walk near the cemetery. He was, after all, on duty. Or whatever one called it when they worked for themselves. "It's such a beautiful night out," she commented, looking up at the patchy sky.

In spite of the rain, it was beautiful out. After all, living in England, one got rather used to drizzling rain. The patchy clouds parted in spots, revealing small glimpses of stars here and there. The air was crisp and breezy, but it was definitely a relief from the stuffiness of the club, which had begun to smell a bit like the inside of a gym locker, only with the added odor of alcohol.
"It is nice out," he agreed. "I feel like we'd been in there so long, I forgot what the outside world was like." They were almost in the main part of Hogsmeade by this time, but he almost regretted that they would be going inside soon.

"Well," she said thoughtfully. "What if we just sat outside for a bit? No need to rush into another stuffy building. It's not like a little rain ever hurt anyone." Amelia knew there was a grassy hill that overlooked the village. She had been there many times when she was younger to think. Then the trees there were small and fragile. Certainly they would be larger by now, and possibly still have some dry patches beneath them.

Kyle shrugged. "Sure, we can do that," he replied. He glanced over at the grassy area nearby. Back in his days at Hogwarts, there was a spot that overlooked the village on one side and the lake on the other, where he used to bring girls. Not that he'd had many girlfriends, but there had certainly been a few. And he had always been a gentleman with them, of course. But the view had always managed to impress the girls. Since it was night, it might not have the same impact, but they'd probably be able to see the lights from the school on the other side of the lake.
Always practical, of course, he reminded himself that they'd have to be on the lookout for vampires and other creatures of the night. But so far, they seemed to have avoided any sight of them. Perhaps tonight they had other places to be.
"Should we head over to the hill?" he asked.

She nodded and shifted their direction toward the hill. "And you'll tell me when I get too bossy." It wasn't a question. "When you get bored of me, or the rain, just tell me alright? I know I can be a bit-" she paused, trying to find the correct word. "Overbearing." That was probably the best way to put it.

Kyle laughed. "I'm sure that's not true," he replied lightly. The truth was, he liked strong women. And he didn't mind letting them boss him around. When he felt strongly about something, he'd say so, but for the little things, it was better to just let the woman decide what she wanted. As far as he was concerned, strong women were more interesting. You could talk to them about more things, without feeling as if you were patronizing them. He had never wanted to be the kind of man who would push women around or treat them like children. Such behavior disgusted him.
As they walked toward the hill, he pointed to a tree that was about halfway up. "How about under that tree?"

Amelia assumed he was just being nice when he said that he didn't believe her to be overbearing. She had, after all, decided where they would go after the club, and then decided to change those plans again. But she said nothing because she was really enjoying herself. And Kyle was such a gentleman that he hadn't complained yet.
Looking over to where he pointed, she nodded. "That's look like a nice spot." It was towards the top of the hill. They would have an excellent view. If nothing else, they could talk about that. Though she was still extremely interested in discussing his work and, maybe, his painting.
They walked the steadily rising hill till they reached the tree Kyle had picked. It was one of the larger trees and the ground below it was almost dry. She leaned against the tree trunk for a bit, taking in the scenery. "Oh, I'd forgotten how lovely it is up here." Through the patchwork clouds a few particularly bright stars were twinkling in the black sky. You could see the lights coming from the village buildings below which looked like a little Christmas tree from this distance. Her gaze hadn't even gotten to Hogwarts yet, which was sure to be a thousand times more beautiful than Hogsmeade village at this time.

Kyle nodded. It was a pretty scene, overlooking the town, with the school just barely visible on one side. The gentle swishing of the lake seemed to echo against the hill, amplifying it. It almost felt as if they were close enough to dip their feet in the icy waters.
"Yeah, it is nice up here. I used to come here and watch the sunset with girls when I was at Hogwarts." He gave a little chuckle. "See? I wasn't always socially awkward."

"Oh stop that," she swatted at his arm playfully. "You must know you're not awkward at all. I find you rather charming. But," she added teasingly, "it could just be the view."
She slid down the trunk of the tree to the ground, folding her legs under her robe to keep them warm. The grass wasn't nearly as wet as she had thought it to be at first glance. The thickly covered branches above were doing their job well. "So you were a bit of a ladies man in school then? Make any of the other boys jealous?"

Kyle shrugged. "Oh, I wouldn't say that. I mean, I guess I did OK, but I wouldn't really call myself a ladies man. Actually, I had a lot of girls who were my friends, but not girlfriends... I think maybe I was too nice. Still am, I suppose. But I never really believed the whole 'nice guys finish last' thing, you know?"
He leaned back and looked up at the sky. The clouds had parted in just one area, creating a curious patch of inky black sky and tiny twinking stars that stood in stark contrast to the milky gray clouds.
Turning to her, he added with a smile, "How about you? I'll bet you broke a few guys' hearts back in school."

Amelia had to agree that nice guys did not finish last. She thought of herself as a nice person and she certainly wasn't going to finish anywhere near last. No, certainly not.
"School boys were my weakness." She looked over at him with a concerned look. "When I was in school. Not now." She laughed at her blunder.

Kyle laughed and shifted to get a better look at her. The lights from the nearby buildings were casting just enough light to make her blond hair shine against the blackness of the sky. It framed her face perfectly. "Well, I don't doubt the boy's in school had a weakness for you. It's a pity we never met in school... we couldn't be too far off in age. I was in Hufflepuff... what house were you in?"

"I was in Hufflepuff as well. I can't believe I don't remember you." She studied his face, trying to imagine what he looked like in school. Clearly they weren't running with the same group back then, but they at least had to have met each other back then.

Kyle looked at her a moment. It was possible that they had met, or at least seen each other back in school. He, in particular, looked very different from how he had looked in school. It was almost embarassing to admit.
"Well, people can change a lot over time. I wasn't always the handsome guy you see now,"m he joked. "I was skinny, with glasses and bad acne. At least until my 6th year, anyway. I had one of those miraculous changes, where I came back after my fifth year looking like a whole different person. But until then, I'm afraid I wasn't very memorable."

Amelia chuckled at the description of his younger self, but not meanly. "That was a hard time for all of us. Awkward years." She shook her head. She had been pretty when younger, but she wasn't without the occasional bout of acne, like everyone else. She had no idea that the current youth were so damned attractive. The rain began to pour now, blurring the lights from the village into streaks of yellow. A few drops made it through the branches above and speckled her face with water.

Although the tree was shielding them from much of the downpour, Kyle acted quickly, transfiguring a nearby twig into an umbrella and holding it over her. "Well, so much for that," he said with a laugh. "We should probably get inside. Do you still want to go to the Three Broomsticks, or should we just go home?"

She couldn't help but smile at his quick wand work as an umbrella appeared over them. He was very thoughtful. And yet at the same time she began to yawn, covering her mouth with her hand. "I hope you don't think poorly of me, but I'm exhausted. We're still on for the moving pictures, though aren't we?"

Kyle nodded. It was probably for the best, actually. It was getting rather late, and he'd accomplished nothing at all tonight. Well... maybe not nothing. Just... no work. "It's OK," he said. "I'm a bit tired tonight, myself. But yeah, we're definitely on for the moving pictures. Do you want me to walk you home? Or are you not close to here?"
