Sirius nodded slowly. Her idea seemed reasonable, to be sure. He didn't like it, and he knew it was going to be hard. But it made sense. Maybe if he could spend a week concentrating on Kris, he would get over these crazy feelings he had for Amy. He had to try, at least. If he couldn't get over his feelings for Amy, maybe then it would be time to end things with Kris before she ended up getting hurt.
"OK," he said. "Yeah. We'll do that. Let's say we meet here at midnight, in exactly one week. How does that sound? And if one of us doesn't show up, then we take that to mean that we're over it and we're moving on. Right?"

"Right," said Amy agreeing. She knew that she needed to get herself to the point where she wasn't going to meet him next week because right now, she wished that time could fast forward itself to next week. Amy had to keep telling herself that it wasn't fair to Kris that this was happening and it wasn't fair to Sirius either. She should have ignored him when she first met him and none of this would have happened.
"So, I guess I should be saying goodbye now. Good luck with Kris." She gave a smile. "And one other thing, you're in my way so could you please take a few steps over so I can get by?"

Sirius took a breath. "Yeah... OK," he said, stepping aside. He ran his hands through his hair as he looked at her. "Goodbye. And... thanks." He turned away again, not wanting to watch her leave. "Just go before I try to stop you again."

"See you around Mr. Black," said Amy as she headed out. "And things will work out for you." She disappeared from the Astronomy Tower and headed back to the Gryffindor common room with an aching feeling. Part of her wanted to run back, but the logical part of her said that that was crazy and she couldn't. Not if she wanted to make things the way they used to be before she came here. This week was going to be hard, but she was going to do her best to keep it from being that way. She would ignore him and he would ignore her. It was going to be that simple. Wasn't it?

Sirius heard her leave, and he held on to the edge of the wall, as if to try and stop himself from chasing after her. He had to let her go, he was doing the right thing. He knew that. He just wished it was easier.
Finally, when the sound of her footsteps walking down the hall had faded, and he was sure she was well ahead of him, he turned and began to walk slowly back to Gryffindor Tower.
