Ever since the aftermath of the election of the Ministry of Magic, Laura had been feeling lonely. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that maybe she went through depression afterwards. It was so weird for her to think that she could have possibly made it as a Minister. And, to make the whole experience even worse, she was under the Imperious curse. The Death Eaters had chosen her to be their little pawn of disaster. Luckily she didn't win. But, she lost more than just the election. She seem to have lost a lot of friends in the process. She was lucky to even still have the job here at Hogwarts.
Laura could just imagine what the parents of the students are saying. They were probably cursing Dumbledore for letting such an evil woman be so close to their children. Some people don't know the difference between the Imperious curse and freewill sometimes. However, she didn't blame them. Times were tough and scary. It would be unwise to let down your guard, even for a second. That's exactly what she did and that's what happened.
The letter in her hand was to her sister, probably the only person that was willing to talk to her. Laura could have easily sent this letter from her office, but she needed to get away. The four walls surrounding her office seem to be confinding. It made her almost claustophobic and she needed to get out. The walk around the castle did her some good and it allowed her to feel a bit of freedom. However, she did get a few stares from the portraits. She kept her head down as she continued her way to the owlery.
She called down one of the barn owls that was close by and tied the letter to its leg. "I need this to go to my sister," she said to the bird. "She's the only friend I got left, or so it seems. So, make sure you deliver this quickly!" Walking over to the window, she let the bird go and watched from the window. How did her life get to be at this point?
