Voltaire looked at her, and said " That you gave him the locket that led to his death." He said it quickly, maybe even a bit disbelievingly, but it was such a dramatic line, something Charles probably was enjoying. "You know of what he's talking about? The Locket? " he asked looking at her now, turning his back on Charles.

She couldn't quite stand the heat of his gaze. She looked away from him, staring instead at Conor, who was drifting off in his basket. "I... I told you I had to do a terrible thing in order to find Conor," she said softly, her voice breaking. "Charles was my only contact on the inside. He... Lord Voldemort... he wanted something. A locket. He'd given it to Craven for safe keeping, but it was stolen... by Olivia St. Clare."
Swallowing, she wiped at a tear in her eye and continued to stare at Conor. "He would do anything to have it back, and the person who brought it back would immediately be accepted in Voldemort's inner circle... a Death Eater of the highest order."
Now she looked up at Voltaire, her face twisted bitterly. "I had to have Charles be the one to bring him that locket. And then, as it turned out, it was practically dropped in my lap. Wesley had it. He and Alastor found it in the woods, where Olivia hid it. He was trying to research it and figure out what it did. But before he could find out, I stole it. Natalie told me to take it... she said it was evil. So I made it look like the locket self-destructed, but I really stole it and gave it to Charles to give back to Voldemort..."
Finally having confessed this secret shame, Isabella broke down and began to cry heavily.

Voltaire's heart broke for Isa's pain. He embraced her and kissed the top of her head. "You did what you had too... I would of done the same. " he was telling the truth, he had gotten Tai Lee to become a deatheater just so he would know where to start looking for his son. "We didn't know what it was, All we knew is that it was evil, maybe we are safer now that it isn't here." he kissed the top of her head again and slowly started to rock her in his arms. "shh, It's ok, I understand." Voltaire vaguely wondered where so much understanding came from his heart, when he could be so short sighted, he shrugged the feeling off and accpected the fact that he did, and would understand for Isa.

Charles listened to Isabella's halting speech and ached for her. He wished he had been a better Death Eater all along--less of a drunk, less of a screw up--so she wouldnt have had to resort to such extreme measures to find the kid. He hated that it was such a painful memory for her.
He was about to add his thoughts on the situation--as if anyone was going to listen to him--when he abruptly vanished again.

Isabella leaned against Voltaire, sobs ripping through her body. She knew it was a case of having done the wrong thing for the right reason--certainly she couldn't leave her son in Voldemort's possession. But not only had she betrayed a friend, she had also allowed Voldemort to get something back that he desperately desired... something that he probably should not have been allowed to have. What if it was a weapon?
"But... we don't know what it was... what it did... we may never know now. I practically handed it to him... and I betrayed a friend..."

"Do you think you can't be forgiven? That no one would understand that you suffer because of this truth? I know what the thing cost to obtain! I still forgive you!" Voltaire said still holding her, squeezing his eyes shut against the tears that began to gleam in his eyes. "If it was a weapon, If it was so needed and wanted, what makes you think it wouldn't of consumed Wesley, or even Natalie, Even you?" he said choking on his last word " Had it devored you, taken you whole into it's evil, do you think I'd be able to live without you or our son?" he believed if Natalie didn't want it near, it had to be terrible, as if the evil of it would taint the air it touched.

Isabella sighed as her tears began to abate. Leaning against him, she closed her eyes and touched his face. "You're right... I know you're right. Whatever it was... Natalie was deathly afraid of it. She said its very presence in the house made her feel sick. She begged me to take it away, said it was necessary to get Conor back. But she didn't know what it did. She just said it was pure evil. It was Slytherin's locket, his crest was on it. But we couldn't find anything about any powers it might have had... No reason why Voldemort wanted it so urgently. If anyone dies because of that locket, it's on my head..."

Voltaire laid his head on top of Isa's and took a deep breath. He wanted to wrap her in comfort. "Isa, you can't blame yourself for any of that..." he paused then continued "We've made our decisions on what we had to do. We have to learn to live with the choices now." he held her as close as he could without crushing her. "I chose to love you, and not a cause, I can live with the rest." he said letting his hold on her slacken just so he could look at her face.

Isabella sniffled loudly and looked up into his eyes. Instead of the judgement she feared, she saw love and acceptance. It nearly broke her, feeling the power and weight of love as it swung down and crushed the guilt right out of her. "I... I thought you'd be angry... that you wouldn't understand... I was so angry at you for what you did to try and get our son back, that I was sure you'd feel the same way about what I did..."
She trailed off and put her hand on his face, stroking the stubble along the edge of his jawline. "I love you so much," she whispered. Then she kissed him.

Voltaire wasn't going to complain, he wasn't going to throw her words back at her either, it just wouldn't gain anything to say things like that and he knew it. He was happier with Isa than he had ever been alone or with other women that didn't care about him. "I love you." he said it simply, as if he couldn't possibly add more to the sentance to explain further why he wasn't mad. He knew even if Isa did yell at him, it wasn't because she didn't love him, in fact he thought it as her way of showing she cared.

Isabella snuggled closer to him. It had been easier than she'd expected to tell Voltaire about what she had done. Although a part of her still felt guilty, not only for turning over something that Voldemort valued highly without trying to see what it did, but also for betraying a friend. But most of all, there was the fear that perhaps the locket and whatever hidden power it had could have been used to stop Voldemort before he became even more powerful.
But at that moment, just receiving Voltaire's forgiveness was enough for her. Her conscience felt lighter already. "Maybe now we can just put the past where it belongs... in the past," she said, looking up at him lovingly.

Voltaire smiled " The past is in a place were we can't screw it up anymore. It's only tomorrow we can screw up on." he held her and looked around to their son, that's when he noticed Charles was gone. "Charles is gone again... I don' t think he'll be gone for very long though...We have to figure out what he is... if he is anything anyone's ever heard of. " he was puzzled about what to do about Charles predicament. He hoped Isa would have better Ideas or even Wesley... He gripped...Wesley...

Isabella frowned. "That's odd that he would just disappear like that," she said. "It's just not following any normal behavior I've ever seen for a ghost. We should try asking around... Wesley is a good start. We could also try talking to the Divination Professor, if you want. I don't know her, but she might be able to provide some kind of insight." Looking at Voltaire, she laughed slightly. "I feel bad, though. I'd completely forgotten about him and here we were getting all cozy... No wonder he disappeared. He was probably nauseated."

Voltaire laughed "I think I'll talk to the Divination professor, maybe she can read my tea leaves for me too." maybe she wasn't a hack, but Divination was so... Unspecific. he really didn't want to have a chat with Wesley, he didn't want to make it seem he approved of him...in anyway. "You can talk to Wesley...Only if I'm there...or Conor is with you..." he added wondering what else he could stipulate to make it a crowded interview.
