Edmund had spent the entire day with Angelique, and had managed to get her to forgive him for walking out on her the night before. He felt sure he was beginning to win her over, but she still kept him at a distance. She barely even let him kiss her. So he was going to have to keep working on her. Now it had become a challenge.
But after he took Angelique back to her apartment, he went straight to the candy shop, intending to spend an evening with Diane.
There was no doubt that the woman was stunning. Perhaps she was a bit naive, and she'd probably make an easy conquest. He was looking forward to an evening where he wouldn't have to work so hard. As fun as the challenging women he'd been seeing lately could be, sometimes it was nice not to have to try so hard.
He reached the candy store just as the lights inside went off. It wouldn't be long before she came out, so he decided just to wait outside for her.

Diane had just turned the lights off after the last of her customers left. She walked to the staff restroom and used a quick spell she fixed her hair so it didn't look messed up like it was. She took a deep, calming breath then walked to the front door; key in hand. Once outside she smiled as she saw Edmund, after shutting the door she locked it then put the keys in her pocket.

Edmund smiled at her approach and held out a single red rose. She looked even more beautiful in the dim moonlight. "You look lovely, Diane," he greeted her. "No one would ever guess that you've just finished working all day, standing up on your feet in a candy shop. I hope you're hungry, because I thought I'd take you to the French restaurant in town."

"Thank you." Diane said smiling as she took the rose. "I am hungry, there isn't much in there that fills you up." All she had had for lunch was a chocolate frog. She had been nervous the whole day as she waited for it to become closing time. She was even more nervous now that he was there, she wondered if this was just a one time thing.

Edmund took her hand in his and began to walk. "Well, we'll take care of that," he said. "You're already so slender, I wouldn't want you to waste away to nothing. This place is pretty good. Do you like seafood? They have some incredible shrimp dishes there."

Diane nodded, "I love seafood." She smiled as she held his hand in one and the rose in another. She wore her heart on her shoulder since Alex had left, they were suppose to be together but with him gone. She pushed thoughts of Alex to the back of her mind and told herself not to think of him while with Edmund.

"Excellent," Edmund replied, smiling. "I really think you'll like this place. So, how was your day? It must be very interesting to work in a candy shop... you must see all different types of people every day." Of course, he was thinking the exact opposite... he couldn't imagine how incredibly dull it must be to work in a candy shop all day. Or to work at all, for that matter. But he needed to at least pretend to show some interest in what she did.

"Actually, it was pretty boring. The main people I saw were students from the school." Diane told him with a sigh. She didn't really like her job but she needed the money.

"That's too bad, really," Edmund said. "I would have thought you'd be the type of woman who'd enjoy working with children. You have such a warmth about you that I'm sure children would respond to. Perhaps you should look into a different line of work if you're not happy doing what you're doing. I hate to think of such a beautiful woman toiling away in a place where she's not happy."

"I would love to find another job but with the boss being gone I'm really the only one to run the place, though there are some perks to running the place myself, I can give myself a little more pay then I'm suppose to get." She grinned at what she admitted, she didn't give herself a lot more then she should but just a little.

Edmund chuckled. "Oh, I see... living dangerously, then, are you? You know what you should do? You should hire an employee. Even your employer, if he were to come back, certainly couldn't expect you to run the shop all by yourself, day after day. Maybe if you could get a break every once in a while, it wouldn't be so bad."

"Yes, I should." She said thoughtfully, she didn't want to think about Alex. She was worried about him but she didn't want thoughts of him to ruin the night. He was the first guy she had accepted a date with since Alex had disappeared.

As they approached the restaurant, they could see a crowd of people waiting to get in. "Well," Edmund remarked, looking at her. "It appears we've come at a bad time. Who would have thought so many people would be coming here so late?" He pretended to look disappointed. The truth was, he had made a reservation shortly after meeting Diane earlier in the day. But he wanted to impress her with his importance.
"Tell you what, we're not going to wait in this line. Let me just see if I can persuade the host to let us go ahead." He gave her a wink and headed up to the front of the line with her still on his arm.

"You can do that?" Diane asked as she felt people watching them. She thought this would be impressive if he could just get them in without waiting in line. She bit her lower lip as she walked along beside him, she thought she would be the luckiest girl if he was that important.

Edmund grinned at her. "Oh, I think I probably can," he said. "I'm from a very wealthy and influential family, and as a result, I hardly ever have to wait in lines." He walked up to the host and slipped 20 galleons into his hand. "The name is Edmund Fairfax, my good man. The lady here is quite hungry, do you think you could get us a table?"
The host stared down at the galleons in his hand, then back at Edmund. As Edmund mentioned his name, the host widened his eyes. "Fairfax? Oh... yes, right, right this way, sir." He walked into the restaurant, signaling for them to follow.

Diane was a bit surprised that he was recognized, she was really impressed by this man. She couldn't believe she was with someone that was important was got recognized. If she hadn't been an adult she would have said 'wow' but she thought reacting like that was a little childish.

Edmund held out his arm to her. "See? I told you I could get us past this line. Come along, my lady, let's get something to eat." He flashed his most charming smile at her. With this one, it was almost too easy.

Diane smiled as she took his arm, she could feel her face turn a little red. She knew it was from being with someone so handsome that was important. She wished she had been able to change for the date.
