Character Name: Norah Lake
Age: 36
Description:
Profession: photographer
Strengths: is a good liar, is very clever, can think on her feet
Weaknesses: can't do magic, is not entirely stable
Tell a little about your character: Norah was raised in a family of pureblood witches, and had every reason to believe that she would have magical powers as well. Her best friend was Eileen Morgan, a muggle who lived next door. The two of them grew up together and were as close as sisters. That is, until the day Eileen received her Hogwarts letter... and Norah did not. They remained friends, and Eileen swore up and down that nothing had changed between them.
But what she didn't know was that Norah was secretly burning with jealousy and rage that her best friend had been raised by muggles and had magical powers, while her family had been a long line of wizards and witches and she was born a squib. While at Hogwarts, Eileen met her future husband, Rupert John Lupin. She was happier than she'd ever been in her life, and she believed that her best friend would be happy for her.
But Norah was anything but happy. Before Eileen got married, Norah ran into Rupert in a bar and got him very drunk. She slept with him, and ever since then, she has been secretly in love with him. Over the next few years, her obsession grew, and when Rupert, working for the Ministry, passed the anti-werewolf laws that so greatly angered Fenrir Greyback, she secretly met with him and offered to make a deal with him. She'd make it easy for him to get to Rupert's young son, Remus, if he would leave the daughter, Kris, alone. Her plan was to take Kris from them and raise her as her own. The plan worked out perfectly. After Remus was bitten, he was so traumatized, sick, and violent for a while, that the Lupins had no choice but to send Kris away. They gave the girl to Norah.
The weeks stretched into years, and Norah moved the girl to America. She carefully hid all of Kris's letters to her parents from them, and lied about how well Kris was doing in her letters to Rupert and Eileen. After a time, she came to believe that Kris was her child. She treated Kris well, but she was never entirely stable. Over the years, she became more and more unbalanced, and came to think of Rupert and Eileen as strangers. She refused to believe that Kris was really their child. Even after Eileen's death, Norah was unfazed, and simply went through the motions of pretending to be sorry about her death. She also carefully hid this information from Kris.
When Kris received her Hogwarts letter, another switch flipped in Norah's head. Here was the daughter that should have been hers, with the magical powers she should have had. She pretended to be OK with sending the girl off to school, but knowing that she would be so close to her own family sent her over the deep end. Whenever Kris was away at school, Norah became obsessed with trying to learn magic.... or steal it. She discovered a potion that can help temporarily transfer magical power from one person to another. Although the potion is dangerous and highly illegal, Norah's been brewing it by the cauldron-full and selling it to squibs and wizards.
Once Kris was reunited with her family and decided to stay in England with them, Norah came up with a plan to try and get her back and get revenge on Rupert for scorning her once and for all....
