James passed Sirius a note telling him to meet him by the lake. He knew that Sirius was probably wondering why he agreed to Lily that he would be nice to people. Of course, he had to take any chance he could to get on her good side, and this was it. James knew that he could attempt to prove himself to her, and he was going to do it. He didn't have to give up pulling pranks, because Lily never said that he couldn't set them up, nor plan them out. She just said that he had to be nice to people.... and planning pranks didn't fall under being mean to people.

Sirius was surprised when he got the note, and wondered what it could be about. He was still a bit annoyed with James for promising to be nice to people. Who was he supposed to pull pranks with? Remus? As much as he liked Remus, the fact wsa, he was too much of a nice guy to really pull a good prank.
After class, Sirius headed out to the lake to meet James, as the note had requested. As he approached the big tree, he folded his arms across his chest. "Well, well. If it isn't Mr. Nice Guy. You sure you can still talk to me?"

"Of course I can," replied James with a grin forming across his face. "I have to be nice to people. That includes you." He leaned up against the tree to face Sirius. "Now, I have to ask you a question Mr. Black. Do you think that I would agree to something that I couldn't have some kind of leeway to?"

A grin spread slowly across Sirius's face. "Oh... you mean you found a way to get around your promise?" he said. "Well, come on, let's hear it." He leaned against the tree, his arms still crossed.

"Lily never said that I couldn't plan or set up pranks. She just said that I had to be nice to people. And the way I look at it is, planning pranks isn't really being mean to people, because you're not actually messing with people, if that makes sense. And, when we set up pranks, I could help you out, because I'm being nice to you by helping you out. She never was clear on who I had to be nice to. She just said people," said James.

Sirius laughed. "Ah, now that sounds more like it," he said. "So you'll act nice, but then help me pull pranks. I like it." He gave James a quick punch in the arm. "I shoulda known you'd always have a plan. So what do you say... let's make our first prank be on Snape?"

James laughed. "Naturally. I always have to have a plan. I couldn't agree to just being nice to everybody, including Snape without some kind of plan. What kind of guy do you think I am?! Wait, let's pretend I don't know who this er, project, and future projects are for. It's just some project that you need help with," he said with a grin. "What kind of project are we aiming for here?"

Sirius shook his head. "Man, I still think you're crazy for doing this. I mean, come on. Lily's great and all, but she can't even guarantee that she'll like you any better after all this."
He shrugged and looked up in the tree, to make sure Sabrina's little sister wasn't sitting up there, as she was known to do. "Anyway, listen. For this little project, as you say, I need something really good. Something that will really humiliate him. I mean, you saw him today in Charms class. I can't let him talk to me like that. Got any good ideas? I'm thinking something involving transfiguration... it's his weakness."

"But I have to try don't I," asked James. "I can't just sit around and do nothing when I maybe have the chance for her to like me."
"Yeah, I noticed," he said. "Transfiguration? Hmm." James crossed his arms as he started to think. "Well, you could always transform his books into something like spiders or something like that. You could transform his quill into some kind of object. There are other possibilities like using Descendo to lower stairs while he's walking up them, or you could put boils all over his face."

Sirius shrugged. "I just hope she's worth it. It pains me to see you making an arse of yourself over a girl." He shook his head again and turned his thoughts back to the prank.
"Hmmm," Sirius said, thinking. "I like the spiders thing. But I don't know if he's afraid of spiders. What if we could like... turn his nose into a pig's nose or something? Although, of course, the boils are always classic. You can't go wrong with that." He said with a grin.

James laughed. "You're right. You can't ever go wrong with that," he said. "Although of course you're the one that will have to cast it and such. I can teach you how if you don't remember how to do boils. I think there is something that will turn his nose into a pig's nose. We would have to make a trip to the library, because I can't think of what that spell is. Or maybe it's in our textbook."

"Hmm," Sirius said. "I can totally do the boils, but I think I want to do it so it's not so obvious who did it or how it happened. So it's more like a prank and less like a random hexing. The pig thing would be cool, though. But how can we do it without actually casting the spell ourselves? Like is there some kind of thing we could put in his drink or something?"

James grinned. "Or we could always slip something in what he uses for shampoo to dye his hair," he said. "I think that there is a way that you can cast spells without actually saying the incantation aloud. Although, it would be hard to figure out how, but it could be useful in the future. We could try that, or, we could pull that potion we made whenever I grew hair all over me. That would be a funny sight, although, I think that would be obvious who did it."

Sirius thought for a minute. "Ohh... I know what would be cool!" he said. "What if, instead of changing him into something, what if we transfigured the words in one of his books, so that when he cast a spell, it would backfire on him and do something to him instead?" He rubbed his hands together gleefully. "All we'd have to do is figure out which spell to use on him, and how to change it so that it will backfire on him! Changing the words in the book will be easy... I actually did that once to one of my mum's recipes!" he laughed.

"I like that," replied James. "We could do something in the Transfiguration book, since we know that he's not good at any of it. The only thing is we don't know which spell we're going to use, so we may need to do a few pages, just to be on the safe side. How long will it take for you to do it?"

"Eh, not long," Sirius said. "I like transfiguration, and I've done the spell before. I just have to figure out what spell we're going to make him use on himself. Oh... and we'll have to get ahold of his book for just a minute. Maybe a trip jinx, to knock the books out of his hands? Then I can pick up the book, do the spell quickly, and hand it to him. Won't take but a minute."
