Friends. Friends were good, especially with Lily. James lifted one hand and put it over his heart and raised the other. "I promise I will do my best to be nicer to people," he said with a smile, but actually meaning that he would. James found a loop hole in the agreement, and he was going to use it. "Plus, that's all I ask," said James. "And Ms. Evans, I do believe you have made my day, so thank you."

Sirius rolled his eyes at this exchange. "Dude... that's just... pathetic," he said. He was going to have to have a long talk with James about this whole Lily thing. It was getting out of hand. It was one thing to like her, but he was making a complete arse of himself over her.

James looked to Sirius and narrowed his eyes a bit, then discretely nudged him. He shook his head. Sirius knew that he would do anything for Lily to like him in someway. If it called for trying to be nice to people, the James would try it. She never said that he couldn't help plan or set up pranks. She said that he just had to be nice to people, and James to it as he just had to be nice to their face, but he would explain the thoughts in his head to Sirius after class.

Sirius raised an eyebrow at James when he nudged him. He wasn't sure what James was trying to say, but he hoped he had some kind of plan. If James was going to be walking around being nice to everyone, things were going to get very boring.
Tired of the conversation, Sirius turned around and looked at Amy again. "Sorry about that, Amy," he said. "I was just watching my friend make a fool of himself. Anyway, I notice you're in Gryffindor. How is it I never noticed you before? Have you been hiding from me?" he added with a wink.

As she doodled random snitches and broomsticks and quaffles, Amy couldn't exactly help but eavesdrop on the conversation that was going on around her. She wondered why the boy so was intent on impressing that girl who seemed to have minimal interest in him. He had been wise enough to create a supposed loop hole with his choice of words, but Amy highly doubted that argument would stand in the future against Lily.
She blushed once again when Sirius winked again. She hated that fact about herself. She was neither shy nor flattered, but between her slight blush and her freckles, she was sure that she looked absurd. Amy laughed and said, "Oh, no problem!" She didn't want to make a comment on the conversation. It seemed that Lily and James didn't appreciate Amy talking to Sirius as it was, but he was being genuinely kind by including her, and she didn't find anything wrong with their conversation.
In response to his question Amy shrugged a little. "Maybe you just weren't looking in the right places," she reflected on the past three years for a moment before continuing, "No, I just used to keep to myself before this year. Although I now have no idea why. Being anti-social's no fun."

Kris walked into the classroom just in time to see Sirius flirting with another girl. She glared at him then walked to an empty table, she didn't like that he had flirted when he was dating her. She opened her transfiguration book and just flipped through the pages wondering if Sirius had even noticed her.

Lily noticed that Kris had walked in while Sirius was flirting with the other girl. She wasn't sure that he had noticed her coming in, so she said loudly, "Hi, Kris!" Then she shot a pointed look in Sirius's direction.

Sirius was about to reply to Amy's comment when he heard Lily say "Hi, Kris!" He gulped. He hadn't meant anything by talking to Amy... he had just wanted to be friendly. Yeah, that was all. He bit his lower lip, then said, "Uh, excuse me, Amy." Then he quickly turned around to look for Kris.
She was sitting a few tables away, and she was flipping through a book as if she was deeply engrossed in it. But he could see the annoyed look on her face. "Hey, Kris," he greeted her, trying to sound apologetic. "I didn't see you come in..."

"Really? I couldn't tell, but then again you were too busy flirting to see anything." Kris said not looking up at him, a part of her wanted to slap him but the other part wanted to cry. She couldn't believe him, they're dating but she just caught him flirting with someone else.

"Oh, hey, now," Sirius said in a soothing tone. He could tell she was upset, and he felt really guilty. "I didn't mean anything by it, I swear. I was just being friendly. She just looked lonely, and I thought I'd try talking to her. I wasn't flirting, I promise. You know you're the only girl for me..." He put on a sad face.

"Really? So a wink and the words 'How is it I never noticed you before? Have you been hiding from me?' is just being friendly?" Her voice shook a little, she was hurt and thought she wasn't enough for him. Why else would he be flirting?

"Aw, Kris..." Sirius shook his head. "It wasn't like that, really. Well, I mean, it was, cause you heard it, but I mean... Aw, crap..." He got up from his seat and went over to sit in the desk just in front of her, leaning over her desk. "Kris, I'm sorry. I just... I... I messed up, OK? I really didn't mean anything by it... Please... forgive me..." He reached over and put his hand on her cheek. "I just sometimes get a little too friendly... It's like... I either flirt, or I play a prank. That's just how I am."

Kris looked up at him and thought for a few moments, "Just don't do it again." She was still hurt that he flirted with someone else. She hoped he wouldn't do it again, he and Remus was the only guys she trusted at the school. "Promise me that you wont."

Sirius nodded and took her hand. "I promise. Really. I won't flirt with anyone else, OK? I only have eyes for you, and I won't be friendly to anyone else." He brought her hand to his lips and kissed it softly. "You look very pretty today," he said in a low voice.

Kris smiled but wondered if he would keep his promise, "Don't you need to get back to your seat? Or at least get your books?" She wasn't going to sit near the girl he had just flirted with.

"Oh... right," Sirius said. He hesitated for a minute... it would feel weird not sitting next to James. But if he went back to the seat near Amy, Kris would probably be mad at him again. He felt bad for dragging Amy into this... she had just been innocent in all this. She didn't know him, or that he had a girlfriend. He made a note to try and find her later and apologize to her. But he wouldn't flirt with her again.
"I'll... I'll just get my books," he said. Quickly, he got up and grabbed his books from the other desk, then gave a nod towards James. Hopefully he would understand. He wanted to look at Amy, to let her know he was sorry, but he had a feeling Kris would not like that. So he quickly returned to his seat with his books.

Kris had watched Sirius from the corner of her eye, she smiled as he sat down with her. She looked at her book again and boredly flipped through it, for some reason she wanted to be outside rather then in.

Sirius was relieved that she had forgiven him. He hated to think that she would be mad at him. Yes, he shouldn't have flirted, but he really hadn't meant anything by it. Or had he? The thought troubled him. He frowned. To chase the thought from his mind, he picked up his book and began to look through it, just as she was doing. "How are you at Transfiguration?" he asked her. "I don't know why, but I find this class so easy. It's always been one of my best classes."

"I'm not the best at it but I guess I'm ok... but I'm better at Defense." Kris told him, "Sometimes it's hard for me to understand what the book or professor is meaning in this class."

Amy realized as soon as the girl that just walked in and gave Sirius that glare that she was the reason James and Lily hadn't wanted Sirius talking to Amy. She shot an apologetic look to Sirius before Lily made her comment about Kris's entrance.
It was the first time that anyone had ever noticed Amy and been nice to her. It was a shame that it had to end this way. Amy felt guilty that his girlfriend was hurt because of her. She hadn't meant to cause any trouble for anyone. Although she honestly felt awful about the situation, her facial features didn't reflect her emotions.
She only glanced up when Sirius promised never to be friendly to anyone ever again. After that, Amy picked up her quill again and began to draw on the corner of her parchment. Even when Sirius came to grab his stuff, she didn't look at him. Amy thought it best if she didn't say anything the rest of class unless the professor asked her something.
