Elle looked up, she hadnt realised she'd been in the class for 20 minutes, she opened her book and took out her cauldron and mixed all of the ingredients together 'Finished Sir!' She said

Lily opened her book and began mixing the potion. Ten minutes later when she thought her potion was perfect, she raised her hand. "I'm done Professor."

Remus opened to page 83 and began to read the instructions thoroughly. Then he got out the ingredients and began adding them according to the directions. When he was done, he stared down at the muddy-looking mixture in the cauldron. Surely that couldn't be right? He looked over at Lily's and saw hers was bright pink and bubbling. "Um, I think I'm done..." he said uncertainly.

Sabrina opened up her book and began to prepare her ingredients. She looked at Severus and told him, "the potion will turn out better if you crush the beetle skin instead of chopping it up. And you might want to lightly boil the ginger root before you cut it up. It makes it easier to cut, plus it makes the oil more potent." She made a few more preparations, and added everything together, stirring the bright pink mixture until it was smooth and bubbling. "I'm finished, Professor Slughorn!"

Rori opened her book to page 83 and read the ingredients twice. Once she was sure of what she needed, she grabbed the ingredients and began putting them in her cauldren. She read the directions as she dropped and stirred like the directions said. Finally she was done and looked around. "Um, I'm done Professor." said Rori with a little bit of confidence, since she loved potion making.

Said Severus In what he thought was a light hearted tone, but seeing his partners' face begin to pout and her eyes began a little less warm told him that no, his tone and humor were lost.
"You don't boil ginger, it's a Rizome and it doesn't have much natural oils in it. Using Younger ginger is easier to cut, but it's less potent. If you crush the beetle shells they will turn your potion murky, chopping them makes it clearer and less grainy. "
Having tried to explain himself in his fashion Severus continued with his potion and made a perfect example of aging potion, that was just a little glossier than Sabrina's and clearer.

Sirius turned to page 83 and started working on his potion. He put all of the ingredients in and cooked it, but it turned a puke green.
"Stupid potions." He thought. "I guess I'm finished."

"Yeah, I'm not very good, either," Remus admitted. "I wish I understood why. It seems easy enough, you just follow the directions. So why don't ours look like Lily's?"
