Standing over a bubbling cauldron, Daniel sighed heavily. A tiny bit of sweat slid down his forehead, threatening to drip in and contaminate his latest potion. He had been working on the perfect love potion for nearly a week now, though it always came out wrong. He didn't get it, he was never this bad at potions. Why now? Why all of a sudden, during his seventh year, did he suck so hard?
Daniel put down the knife he'd been using, but his fingers got in the way. Blood dripped from the small nick he'd just recieved from the blade. Putting his finger to his lips, he sucked on the wound gently as if to soothe the pain that really wasn't there. Daniel to the cabinet near the front of the room and looked for something to wrap his finger with. He could have easily used his want and healed it right then and there, but what fun was it to be left without trophy scars.
Daniel found a tiny bit of what looked like guaze and wrapped the tiny cut. He shoved his hands into his pockets and sighed once more. He needed help with the damn potion at his table, but he was to prideful to admit it. Or, maybe it was that he was too embarrassed to admit that it was a love potion he was working on. "Amortentia." he said to himself really. "What a joke. How is a stupid drink supposed to make someone love you?" Bringing a hand to the back of his neck, Daniel let out yet another sigh. "What if you don't deserve to be loved?" he asked in little more than a whisper.

Gia was walking by the potions classroom, on her way to talk to Professor Slughorn about her last potions test. As she passed by the classroom, she saw someone inside, working on a potion. She stopped for a second and walked back to the door. For a long moment, she stood there, staring in the room, watching him. She heard him mumble something under his breath, but couldn't hear what he was saying. Almost against her will, she walked into the room. "Hey... are you OK?" she asked.

Daniel looked up from the floor and stared at the girl for a moment. He nodded his head, allowing his lips to curl into a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine." he said. Daniel was as fine as any one could be after repeatedly failing on something they were suppsed to be good at.
Daniel gave the girl a sideways glance. He couldn't remember ever seeing her around the school, but he was sure they'd crossed paths before. Here at Hogwarts, you crossed everyone's path at least once. "I'm not sure that we have ever met." He said while extending out his hand. "The name's Daniel."

"Hi, Daniel," Gia said, shaking his hand. "I'm Gia." She looked at him for a second. He was good-looking, but clearly unhappy. Maybe a little lost. "We must have a few classes together, but I don't think I've seen you around before." She looked at his robe and noticed he was in Ravenclaw. "So, um, what are you doing down here? Do you have some extra-credit work or something?"

His lips gave way to a second smile. Daniel shook his head. "Nah, I don't need extra credit. I'm making this blasted thing for the fun of it." he admitted. Daniel was telling the complete and utter truth. He honestly didn't need to work any harder than he already was, he had excellent marks in Potions. Though, herbology was a foreign language entirely and he had scars to prove it.
"If I tell you what I'm making you won't got and tell everyone will you?" he asked still a little embarassed. Did it make him a loser to be making Amortentia? He could say it was for practice, seeing that this potion in particular was a rather hard one to make.

Gia watched him as he spoke. For some reason, she kept watching his mouth. As she realized this, she blushed and looked away. "Oh, yeah... I won't say a word to anyone," she said. Of course, the reason was that she didn't really have a lot of people that she talked to, anyway. There was Jenny, but she seemed to have disappeared. She was beginning to feel like an outcast, even though there really wasn't any reason why. She just didn't seem to fit in anywhere. "Your secret is safe with me."
