"Oh," Dawn says. "I think I have heard of these. Quinn told me about them once. She likes to spend time with humans a lot." She held up a spoon. "We have these back at the camp, though. Sometimes I make soup. It's about the only thing I'm good for, cooking. I hope the rest of the pack will be OK, while I'm not there to cook for them."

Karl sat down across from her. "I'm sure they'll be fine, but I'm sure they miss you," he said, smiling at her. "But you should stay a little while and keep up your strength. After that fit you had, you're probably pretty tired. You need to rest while."

Skye sat in the corner. She had been quietly observing everything while she finished working on the hem of Coda's dress. Now she was finished, and she tied off the hem tightly before cutting the thread. "Coda, your dress is ready, if you'd like to get changed now," she said.

Coda smiled then walked over to Skye. "Thank you." She said as she took the dress, she left the kitchen for the room Skye had took her in before. After she changed she walked back into the kitchen wearing the dress. "I really like it... thank you again."

Skye smiled at her. "You are welcome. It looks much better on you than it did on me. Please, sit down, and we'll start serving breakfast." She walked over to the cabinet and began to take out some plates. "Hopefully, Zander and Pearl will be home soon with the pups, so we can decide what to do about Ashura."

Dawn looked around curiously. She really liked these people. It seemed like a nice pack, and she actually felt welcome here. She didn't always feel that way with Gretchen's pack. Sometimes she felt like she was a terrible burden on them, because of her illness. She sat quietly and smiled at Karl.

Karl smiled back at Dawn. "You really look like you're feeling much better already," he commented. "It was barely 10 minutes ago, I was afraid you were dying. Did you ever see a doctor about those shaking fits?"

Chloe walked over to where Skye was taking out plates when Karl sat down at the table across from Dawn. When she smiled at him, some strange feeling surged through her, but she couldn't tell what it was. Chloe shook it off and began to fix Coda a plate, then sat it down on the table for her. "Come on and fix you a plate before it starts to get cold," she said as she stepped out of everyone else's way so that they could go ahead and get their food before she would get hers.

Karl smiled at Dawn. "You wait here, I'll fix your plate for you," he said. "You need to rest and keep up your strength." He got up and walked over to Skye, taking a plate from her, then over to where Chloe stood to put a moderate amount of food on the plate.

Coda had to be polite, even though her wolf family were wild they did teach her to be polite, so she sat down where Chloe had sat the plate. She was thankful that it was something she had already tried, she picked up the fork and started to eat doing it the way Athena had taught her.

Dawn smiled again. "Thank you. You are most kind," she said shyly. She looked at the rest of the pack members. They were so different from the members of her own pack. Chloe was tall and graceful, and very pretty. Skye also had a gentle grace about her. Watching her walk was like watching a fawn move through the trees. Coda was sweet and shy, and seemed as uncertain as herself. She wondered if the girl was a new pup. She liked Karl best of all. He seemed a bit rough by his appearance, but when he spoke, he was kind and caring. She could tell he was fiercely loyal to those he cared about. She could also tell, by the way he looked at Chloe, that they were mates. She was happy for them; they seemed like a good couple.
What struck her most about this pack, however, was not its members but its surroundings. Instead of living in caves and tents in the middle of the forest, like Gretchen preferred, they lived in a real house, with stoves and beds and tables and chairs. They were more than a pack. They were a family. It filled Dawn with a sadness that she couldn't quite understand.
At the mention of a doctor, however, Dawn shuddered. "No, Gretchen won't take me to one. She says it is a doctor's fault I am like this."

"That's too bad, " Karl said. He had not heard of such things happening. He thought maybe he could talk to Zander about it when he got back. Karl walked back to the table with two plates in his hands. He handed one to Dawn, then placed the other in front of his own chair. He sat down and took the fork in his hand. "These things are easy to use," he told Dawn kindly. "I never used them when I was with Greyback, either, but they're not so bad. I don't end up with food all over me anymore. Here, watch me," he said, as he began to put some food on his fork and bring it up to his mouth.

Dawn watched him for a moment, then began to do the same thing. The first time she tried, she dropped half of her eggs back on her plate. But her second attempt was better. "It is easy," she agreed. "Thank you. And the eggs are very good, Chloe. I make eggs for my pack, but they don't taste like this. I don't have the right equipment. You are lucky to have a proper stove."

Skye filled her plate with a small amount of food, then glanced nervously at the kitchen door again. "I hope Zander and the others get back soon," she said. "I'm beginning to worry that something may have happened."

At that moment, Zander walked into the house, and hearing his name, pushed into the kitchen. "We're here, Skye," he said. "We had a bit of trouble last night, and..." He stopped, staring at Coda and Dawn. "Um... who are these people? You guys didn't make new pups, too, did you?"

"Hey Zander. Oh no. We didn't make any pups last night. We ended up running into this two," responded Chloe. She pointed to Coda. "We saved her from a wolf attack last night. Her name's Coda. And that one," she said pointing to Dawn, "is Dawn. We found her in the woods this morning, well, more like she found us, and said something about Ashura was with her pack. She's from a woman named Gretchen's pack. Poor Dawn blacked out and we couldn't just leave her there, so we brought her back here."

Coda looked up at Zander. "Me and Skye saw a mean looking lady dragging her off somewhere." She said quietly before going back to eating.

Dawn smiled at the pack leader. He was handsome and appeared strong. "Yes, as soon as I am well enough, I will go back to my pack." She furrowed her brow, trying to remember. "There was a girl.... tied to a tree..." she said slowly.

Zander looked at them both, feeling slightly confused. It seemed like everything was happening at once, and he wasn't sure what to deal with first. He looked at Coda and raised an eyebrow. "So this is Coda?" he said. "We ran into Athena in the woods, she was looking for you frantically," he said. "She's coming over later, so I guess you and I are going to need a little talk in a little while." He turned back to Chloe. "Now, explain to me again, what happened with Ashura?"

"Well, from what Skye says, she saw Ashura being taken away by two girls. Skye and Coda hid as they saw them go by. I'm not quite sure why they took Ashura, unless it was because of her brother, but I haven't figured out why they would want her brother either," said Chloe. "It was Gretchen according to Dawn, except for she can't really remember everything after she had a fit."
