Karl was hard at work, cutting some firewood in the back yard. This was going to be his first year staying in a real house. He finally felt at home here at Chloe's house, and with Zander's pack. Greyback had always treated him like he didn't really matter, so it felt good to know that he really did matter to people. Karl smiled as he thought of Chloe. She was so pretty.... He stopped for a minute and wiped the sweat off his forehead, smiling to himself as he pictured Chloe with her bright yellow hair, her pretty smile, and those legs that went on forever. He wondered to himself what she was doing right then.

Chloe finished cleaning most of the cobwebs out of the attic and put a few things up there, before climbing back down. She wiped her shirt off, since some dust had gotten on it. Chloe had found herself glancing out the window as Karl chopped the firewood. She watched as he concentrated on what he was doing, then she ducked away from the window as he stopped. Chloe laughed to herself, glancing out the window again, then heading into the kitchen. She figured that Karl could use something to drink, and that was a good reason for her to go outside with him as well. She fixed him a cup of water and then headed outside, trying to suppress her smiles. "Hey Karl," she said, not being able to suppress them any longer. "I figured that you might want something to drink."

Karl looked up and smiled at the sound of Chloe's voice. "Hey, Chloe. Yeah, I could use a drink," he said, taking the glass from her and drinking about half of the glass. He even managed to avoid getting in all over himself. He wiped the sweat from his forehead again and looked up at her. "I was just thinking about you," he said.

Chloe raised an eyebrow with a smile. "Really now," said Chloe. "That's interesting. I was just watching you for a few minutes out the window before I came out here, just checking on you. The attic is done, just as the rest of the house. Everything is straightened up, except for a few pipes that need a little work. Thanks for all the firewood."

Karl grinned. "You were watching me, eh? Like what you see?" He reached up and twirled a lock of her hair around his finger. "I want to hug you, but I'm all gross and sweaty."

"Um, not really," she said teasingly. "I was just seeing who was winning you or the firewood." Chloe flashed him a grin, then started to laugh. "I'm just kidding! I promise!" She gave him one quick glance over. "Yeah, you are all gross and sweaty, but you know what," she reached up and gave him a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek. "I don't really care, because I've got to take a shower anyway! The attic is awful hot."

Karl grinned and kissed her on the lips. "Well, I think you look pretty," he said. "Course, I always think that...." He walked over to a large tree stump and sat down, pulling her down with him. "The house is looking real good, isn't it? It's starting to feel like a home."

Chloe laughed as she was pulled in Karl's lap. "Yes it is," said Chloe. "It's taken awhile, and a lot of work, but it's really showing off. This winter, we're going to have plenty of firewood." She smiled again. "But, some of the pipes still need a little work, and then after that, I do believe everything is fixed, except for I want to maybe repaint some of the rooms, because they're starting to look a little faded."

"That sounds nice," Karl said. "You know I'll help you. You know, all the places I stayed when I was with Fenir, this is the only place that ever felt like... home."

Karl smiled shyly and began to run his fingers through her soft hair. "I always felt out of place. Everywhere I went, it was the same. I... I don't remember much about my life before I was bitten, but I think, if it had been good, I would remember it. And with Fenrir, the only things that got me through sometimes were Pearl and Skye. I don't know what I woulda done without them. And now... now I got you. And I don't really know how I managed to live without you before."

Chloe smiled. "Well, to be honest, I like this life better than my old one," said Chloe. "I don't really want to remember what it was like before this. I mean, it wasn't that horrible, but still. To tell you the truth, the first time I was saw you was the first time I had ever been nervous to talk to anyone. I debated with myself if I should say anything or not, because for once, I was completely shy."
