Angelique left the portkey office and walked down to the auror office to fill out the paperwork certifying that she was an employee of the Ministry of Magic. She thought it was rather sloppy of Vincent Corrigan to hire her without filling out the proper paperwork. She walked into the office and saw a mousy looking girl working at a desk. "Hi, are you the secretary or something?" she said.

"Oh, um, no... I'm not the secretary," Cassidy said, trying not to be annoyed. "There isn't a secretary. I'm an auror. Can I help you?"

"Oh, I'm sorry," Angelique said. She looked at the girl behind the desk. She certainly didn't look like an auror. She seemed fragile and emotional and shy... all qualities that were not exactly desirable in an auror. Still, she decided to be tactful for once, and said nothing. "I was told to come down here and meet with someone named Cassidy LaRose about some paperwork or something? I've just been hired by Vincent Corrigan to be an auror. My name's Angelique St. Clare. Do you know who can help me?"

"Well, I'm Cassidy LaRose, but I'm still not a secretary. Still, I can give you the papers to fill out. Um, welcome to the team." She opened a file cabinet and took out some papers, then handed them to her along with a self-inking quill. "Did you say your name was St. Clare? You wouldn't happen to be related to Wesley St. Clare, would you?"

"Um, actually, yeah, I would. He's my half-brother," Angelique replied. "His father married my mother and moved to America before I was born. Why do you ask? Do you know Wesley?"

"Yes, well, sort of. I did, anyway. He died a few months ago, didn't you know that?" Cassidy said. "It was a terrible shame, his wife died, then he did... now I just heard that his daughter was killed. If you haven't gone to see the family, you really should go."

"Oh, I've gone to see them," Angelique said. "Look, I may as well tell you, if you're friends with Wesley. I think it's going to be common knowledge soon, anyway. Um, see... Wesley isn't dead. He faked his death so he'd be able to be there for his kids. Unfortunately, he was too late to save his oldest daughter. I think he's in the process of filing paperwork to have himself declared alive again."

"What?" Cassidy gasped. She was truly stunned. She'd barely had time to get used to the idea that Wesley was dead, and now he was alive again. "But... how? Why? Where's he been all this time?"

"Well, I don't really know," Angelique replied. "I'm really pretty fuzzy on the details, but I think it had something to do with the old Minister of Magic. He sounded like a real creep. I'm glad he's dead. Maybe now you guys can get someone in the office who actually knows what he or she is doing. Did you know the guy?"

Cassidy frowned. "Kind of," she replied. "Most of us just did our best to avoid him. He really was creepy. Not the kind of guy you'd want to meet in a dark alleyway, if you know what I mean."

Angelique made a face. "How does a guy like that get elected, anyway? Did he buy people off or something? I hope you get someone in the office who can actually do the job, and isn't a creep." She shuddered. "OK, let me just finish filling these papers out..."

"Yeah, I think he might have," Cassidy replied. "It wouldn't surprise me, anyway. Anyway, yeah, just finish filling out those papers." She took a sip of her coffee while she waited for Angelique to finish with the paperwork.

Angelique worked on the papers quietly for a few minutes, then finally finished with them. She gathered up the pages and handed them to Cassidy. "Here you go," she said. "Thanks again. Especially since this isn't really your job. Really, why do you let them stick you with all the paperwork? You should stand up for yourself."

"Yeah... I know. And I do... sort of. Well, I mean, I do have a case of my own. It's a tough one, too... I have to find out if someone was under the Imperius Curse when he took part in an attack. I'm pretty sure he was, but I just need to prove it. I think if I can do that, I'll finally get some respect around here."

"Oh, well, in that case, I wish you good luck. If there's anything at all I can do to help, feel free to let me know." Angelique stood up and held her hand out to Cassidy. "It was really nice meeting you. Maybe we could get together and talk some time. I could really use some friends around here to help show me around."

Cassidy nodded. "Sure. That would be great. Thanks again. And it was nice meeting you, too. Maybe I could introduce you to my friend Evangeline, and we could hang out together or something."

"That sounds nice," Angelique replied. "I guess I'll see you around. I have to get going now, though. Wesley will be wondering where I am." She smiled at Cassidy, then turned and walked toward the door.

"Oh, right... Wesley! Tell him I said hi!" Cassidy said. She watched as Angelique waved at her, then walked out. After she was gone, Cassidy's jaw dropped open. She couldn't believe Wesley was still alive! She couldn't wait to tell Evangeline....
