Gretchen awoke in the middle of the woods near Hogsmeade. The birds were chirping overhead, and a warm sunbeam was shining down on her. She sat up slowly and looked around her. The rest of the pack was huddled nearby, next to the large deer that they had killed the night before. Luckily, they were close to the spot where she had left their clothes, so she got up and walked over to the tree with the knot in it and dug out the bag with everyone's clothes in it. Taking out her own, she got dressed quickly and began to walk around, giving everyone their clothes. When she got to Rochelle, she bent down and shook her slightly. "Rochelle, wake up," she said. "We need to talk."

Rochelle felt someone shaking her a little and she slowly opened her eyes to look up at Gretchen. "Okay, okay," she said sleeply and taking her clothes. She quickly dressed, and then stretched. "What do we need to talk about," said Rochelle running her fingers through her hair to try and comb through her hair.

Gretchen looked around at the rest of the pack. Everyone else was getting dressed slowly, and a few were looking over at her curiously. "Not here. Come on, let's go for a walk." She looked over at Korbel. "Korbel, don't go anywhere. I want to talk to you when I'm done with Rochelle." Turning back to Rochelle, she led her into the woods a little farther. When she was sure they were out of earshot from the rest of the pack, she turned and faced Rochelle. "Want to tell me what happened last night?"

Rochelle swallowed. Of course, this was going to come up. "I don't know," said Rochelle. "I didn't really think, I just acted. I didn't want Korbel to attack him. I just, I don't know. I just did what I did."

Gretchen nodded. "Well. Korbel was acting against my orders. I want the hunter distracted, but I don't want him hurt. Not until I know if he killed Buck. And if he did kill Buck... then I will go after him myself. So believe me, Korbel is going to have to answer to me for attacking him. But it seemed like you were taking it... personally. Rochelle, I'm just going to ask you straight out. Do you have feelings for him?"

"I-I," stuttered Rochelle. "I don't know. He is the first person I have been able to just sit down and talk to with no problems at all, and he makes me feel different. I don't know what that is," she said hanging her head. Rochelle knew that she couldn't lie that much to Gretchen because she knew that she would smell it.

Gretchen thought for a minute. "It's as I suspected. I should probably take you off of the case, because you're walking a dangerous line here. But then, you always were. When he finds out what you are--and believe me, he will find out eventually--things are going to get very tough for you. Whether you believe it or not, Rochelle, I care about you and I don't want you to get hurt. Remember, this man is a hunter. He's killed some of our own people, and he may have killed Buck. No matter what his reasons, he's still a killer. You would do well to remember that."

Rochelle was about to protest that she didn't want to get off the case, but Gretchen said that she didn't have to. "I know I'm walking the dangerous line, and I know things are going to get tough here soon, but right now, I'm really happy for once. I'll take care of things when that time comes. Don't worry about it. I can take care of it," said Rochelle.

"All right," Gretchen said. "I won't take you off the case, since he already trusts you. But I need you to find out if he killed Buck as soon as possible. After that, I'll take over. OK?" She sighed. "Be careful, Rochelle. That's about all I can say. You can go now... but tell Korbel I want to talk to him now, will you?"

Rochelle nodded. "Okay. I'll try to find that out today or tomorrow, then let you know as soon as I can," said Rochelle. She headed back to the others and found Korbel sitting by himself. "Korbel, Gretchen wants to speak with you."

Korbel stood up and nodded to Rochelle and headed in the direction she had came from. After entering the woods a little ways, he found Gretchen waiting for him. He swallowed and walked up to her. "Rochelle said that you wanted to see me," he said.

Gretchen nodded. "Korbel, I want you to keep an eye on Rochelle. She's getting too close to the hunter, and I'm not happy about it. She's going to get herself hurt. I need you to watch her... but don't let her know you're watching her."

Korbel nodded. "Okay. If the hunter sees me or anything, I could supposedly say that I'm her brother. Hopefully he doesn't remember me at all," said Korbel. "But, I'll do my best, as usual."

Gretchen nodded. "OK, good," she said. "You could also just act like you're there by accident. Whatever you have to do... just keep an eye on her." She sighed and rubbed her forehead. "It's OK. I didn't want you to hurt him, though, and I'm glad Rochelle stopped you. If he killed Buck, then I'll deal with him myself. But there's still a chance that he didn't. There were other hunters in that area, and it could have been one of them. Until we know for sure, no one makes a move."

"Alright," said Korbel. "I'll try to control my, urges better next time," he said with a slight smile. "But, I'll keep an eye on her the best I can. I just hope she doesn't blow her cover. There's no telling what would go on if he found out what she is."

"He's going to find out sooner or later," Gretchen said. "I met him last night before the attack. He's a smart man... and troubled. But she seems to have calmed him a bit. He may react differently than I think... but he may not. I need to see if I can figure out who killed his fiancee five years ago, which is apparently the reason he started hunting werewolves. But the funny thing about last night is, I don't think he had any intention of shooting any of us, except to protect himself. He wasn't hunting last night... and that's strange to me. Something else is going on... and I think Rochelle is part of it."

"Five years ago? I'm not sure of who could have done it, but I'll help you find out, I suppose, as well as keep an eye on Rochelle," said Korbel. "But what do you think the something else is? I'm not sure if he had intentions on shooting any of us, but he probably would have if Rochelle hadn't shown up and attacked me."

"I know, it's going to be hard to figure out who could have done it. Most werewolves don't even remember their kills. But if we can figure it out, maybe he'll back down. As for why he wasn't hunting... I have no idea." Gretchen scratched her head. "I'm sure he would have fought you if Rochelle hadn't shown up. But that thing he was holding... I've seen it before. It was a tranquilizer dart gun. It wouldn't have killed you, just made you sleep for a while. He was only prepared to defend himself against you... he was not out to kill. Strange behavior for a known werewolf hunter."

"I'm not sure either," said Korbel. "I know this is strange, but do you think that Rochelle is changing his mind? I mean, I know that's strange, but stranger things have happened, you know?"

"It's possible," Gretchen said. "I didn't tell her to do that, but she may be doing it anyway. And if so... well, it's a good thing. We don't want him hunting us anymore, and that is why I sent her to deal with him. I know at the very least, he considers her a friend. And maybe more than that. But he was always a loner before... so maybe her influence is making him change his mind. I guess we'll see, huh?"
