After the fight, Quinn had run through the woods, and had taken down two foxes and a small stag, just for the fight. She had even had a battle with a regular wolf she had encountered in the forest, but she didn't kill him. She was in a rage of jealousy and hatred. She was sure Korbel was mating with that girl.
The next morning, she awoke, naked and bloody, next to the corpse of the stag, which had gored her with its antlers in its dying breath. She didn't even bother to clean up or get dressed, she just wandered through the forest, trying to track down Gretchen's scent. Finally, she caught wind of her pack leader and she followed it toward a clearing, where an old, rundown house stood. She saw Gretchen nearby, getting into her clothes, which she had obviously left there. "Gretchen!" she called urgently. "I have some news."

Gretchen pulled on her shirt, then turned to look at Quinn. "Quinn! What have you been up to? You're covered in blood! You can't go walking around in public like that, people will think you've done something horrible. What did you kill, anyway?"

"Oh, I don't know, I think it was a stag. It gored me." Quinn looked down at the bloody gash on her side, realizing suddenly that it hurt. "Look, that's not important right now, OK? Listen, Gretchen, I have to tell you something. You're not going to like it."

"Well, OK, then, out with it already," Gretchen replied, annoyed. "And hurry up, so we can get you cleaned up and dressed." She looked at Quinn expectantly.

"It's Korbel," Quinn said, sitting down on a fallen log. "He's involved with a girl... a girl he met in the forest. He wanted to keep this from you, but I think you need to know. The girl is the hunter's sister. They only just met up with each other, not long before he left to get away from you."

"What?" Gretchen cried. "The hunter's sister is here? Why didn't you tell me this right away? This is just what we need to draw him back out of hiding, so I can finish things, once and for all! Why didn't Korbel tell me this?"

"Well, I wanted to tell you right away," Quinn said defensively. "Korbel begged me not to. For some reason, he cares about the girl and doesn't want her to be hurt. In fact... I think he might have mated with her." She forced back the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes.

Gretchen walked over and put her hands on Quinn's face. "Poor Quinn. You loved Korbel, didn't you? You should have spoken sooner, instead of dallying with the human boys in town. Ah, Quinn, you know I knew all about your... activities. " She shook her head sadly. "Listen, if what you say is true, and Korbel has chosen the hunter's sister as his mate, then you should know... he's dead to me. Just as dead as Rochelle is to me now. I won't hesitate to kill him to get to her, if that's what it takes. I will have my revenge for Buck's killer."

Quinn sniffled. "I... I didn't realize it until I heard him with her... I just always thought he'd be there..." She leaned against Gretchen slightly. "I... I don't want Korbel to die... but I know that he has betrayed you..."

Gretchen pressed a kiss on the top of Quinn's head. "Yes," she said smoothly, "he has. And he will pay for it. But I will try to wait to hear his side of it first." She pulled back and took Quinn by the arm. "Now come on, dear. Let's get you cleaned up, and then you're going to take me to the hunter's sister." She led Quinn into the forest.
