Lucius slipped away from the camp yet again and headed over to the Hog's Head to meet with Zane Larkin. He hoped that his new recuit would prove to be worthy in the Dark Lord's eyes. He went to the bar and ordered a brandy, which he held in his hand for appearance's sake, but did not drink. He would not go to the Dark Lord with liquor on his breath. Then he leaned against the bar and waited for Zane to arrive.

Zane walked into the Hog's Head quietly. He had decided that the boy's choice of location to meet at was slightly more secretive and that it wasn't all that necessary to wear his dark cloak again. He immediately spotted the kid sitting up at the bar and strolled over to him, looking at him with an exasperated expression strewn across his face. His first meeting with this guy hadn't exactly been pleasant. He hoped he had good news regarding the meeting that he had promised.

Lucius nodded his head coldly in Zane's direction. "He has agreed to meet with you," Lucius said shortly. "We will leave in a few minutes, and I will take you there. After that, you will be on your own."

"Finally..." Zane muttered quietly. "What exactly did you tell him? How did he seem to take the request?" He questioned the boy, hoping he hadn't done anything dumb.

Lucius glared at him. "I simply wrote him that you were interested in joining with him. I gave no further details, such things are a waste of his time. You must be the one to prove him of your worth. He responded that he would meet you, that should be more than enough of a sign for you."

"Fine. I'm ready whenever you are then." Zane replied before ordering a small glass of butterbeer and draining it in one quick gulp. "The sooner I get this whole 'proving myself' thing off my chest, the better."

Lucius nodded, then took a single sip of his brandy before setting it down on the counter. He tossed in a couple of galleons and headed for the door. "Meet me outside in five minutes," he replied. He turned and headed for the door.

Zane simply nodded and ordered another drink. He finished it off and took a deep breath before standing up and proceeding to walk out of the bar to meet the man outside. He just then realized that he still didn't even know the kid's name.

Lucius was standing in the shadows, waiting for the older man to come out. When he did, he waited a few seconds, then stepped out quietly. "Very well, then. Let's go. I'm Lucius Malfoy, by the way." He nodded at an old hat that lay in the middle of the pavement. "We're going by portkey. Grab on." He bent over and put his hands just above the hat.

Zane grabbed onto the old, worn hat without even a complaint about the fact that they had to go by portkey. The complex way of transportation made him a little too queasy. Apparition would have been preferable, but he supposed it didn't matter too much. Instead he focused on how he would be presenting himself to the Dark Lord. He couldn't screw this up.

Lucius grabbed the hat just as they lurched forward and disappeared. A minute later, they were standing a block away from the new headquarters. "All right, we walk the rest of the way," he said.
