Christian wandered into the Three Broomsticks, much more stressed than he'd like to be. His campaign manager for the upcoming Minister of Magic election had been dangerously sick all week. And since he didn't have anyone else that he could whole-heartedly trust to be good enough at the job, he had forced himself to do the paperwork involving his candidacy and everything that went into it. Not to mention, his assistant at the Law Enforcement Department insisted on annoying him by giving him speech after speech about why he should stay in his current position, rather than going for Minister.
He quickly ordered a firewhiskey from the bartender and buried his head in his hands. He felt like he was about ready to explode on whoever decided to piss him off next.

Angelique continued her tour of Hogsmeade. So far she was less than impressed with the place. There were wizarding towns in America that were much nicer than this. And the people she'd met so far were even less impressive. No wonder they had let this Lord Voldemort character become so powerful. She walked into the Three Broomsticks, and was relieved to find it slightly nicer than the nightclub. She walked up to the bar and said to the bartender. "I'll have a butterbeer, please. And make sure it's in a clean glass, will you?" She noticed there was a guy sitting next to her with his head buried in his hands, so she blurted out, "So, what, did someone shoot your puppy, or something?"

Christian turned to the snooty woman beside him. "Excuse me?" He replied, sharply. Was she trying to annoy him? He took a long drink of his bottle of Firewhiskey. As Christian turned back to the woman and sized her up, he had to admit- apart from her snobbish manner- she looked quite stunning.

"Well, it's just that you looked like you were pretty miserable over something. So I asked you what your problem was." She shrugged, not really thinking she had done anything wrong. "It's kind of an American expression for asking what's wrong. I have to remember that you Brits speak differently." She took a sip of her drink and looked at him. He was good-looking, but he seemed a little uptight. But again, maybe that was just a British thing. "So, how about it? Do you want to talk, or are you going to do the stiff upper lip thing?"

Christian didn't know if he should take the whole thing about Brits being different as a compliment or an insult. He just shrugged in response. "Its not much. I'm just really stressed at work, that's all. I'm a candidate for the upcoming Minister of Magic election and its been getting really tiresome lately. Mostly because my campaign manager is pretty sick and so I've had to do a lot of extra work to make up for it." He explained, taking another drink of firewhiskey. "Why do you really even care?" He asked curiously, trying not to appear to be too rude.

"Oh, yeah, I heard about that," Angelique said. "So you're running for the office? You do look like the type." She didn't mention that she had considered running for Minister of Magic herself; after all, she wasn't even sure she had a chance, since she was American and had only just start working for the Ministry. She shrugged. "Well, I don't care, actually. I was just making conversation. Trying to be friendly. It's something I'm particularly good at, but I figure if I'm going to be staying here, I should try getting to know people."

"So, you're American then?" Christian asked. "I've never been there before. Quite honestly, the people I've met from there didn't seem to attract me to it very much. No offense or anything. But if you're so repelled by Britain, what made you interested in coming here anyway?"

"I didn't say I was repelled by it," Angelique said. "I'm not that impressed yet, but I think I can do better work here. I'm an auror, and I quit my job a week ago, and decided to come here for a job. Also, I have some family here, so I thought I would check up on them."

"Ah...OK." Christian said, nodding understandingly. "So then...who's in the family? Its a small world with us wizards in Britain. Perhaps I know them?" He asked, trying to keep the conversation moving. Something about this woman intrigued him.

"It's the St. Clare family," Angelique said. "My name is Angelique St. Clare and Wesley St. Clare is, well... was... my half-brother. Now all that's left are his two daughters. I've never even met my nieces, so I thought I'd check up on them. You didn't know Wesley, did you?" She looked at him with some interest. She knew Wesley had worked at the Ministry, and if this guy worked for the ministry as well, he might have known him. She was very confused about how Wesley had supposedly died, and had a vague idea of looking into it.

Christian shook his head. "I can't say I've met him, but I'm pretty sure I have heard of him. It was a while back though." He said, thinking about it. "Although, come to think of it... You said your name was St. Clare? I've heard that before. And not with Wesley. It was more recent than that..." He added, trying to figure out where he had heard the name before.

"Yeah, that's my name," Angelique said. "What did you hear? It isn't about my nieces, is it?" She frowned, hoping they were OK. "Oh, or maybe you heard about his wife, Olivia? She was killed a few months before he was. Oh, but you said it was more recent than that... I wonder what it was."

"Yeah, I don't remember. Whatever it was, I think I saw it in the Daily Prophet." Christian said, shrugging. "But if I were you I would get to checking up on them soon. Anything the Daily Prophet finds interesting enough to announce, usually isn't too great of news." He frowned. "But anyways, you say you're an Auror? I'd be careful in that kind of job after what's happened recently to the ones around here. I remember one of them supposedly got kidnapped and forced under the imperius curse- or so he says. He ended up attacking the Order of the Phoenix. And I remember hearing about the head of the group being through some rough ordeal as well. Its not an easy job, from what I hear. But I'm sure you're already familiar with all the dangers."

"Well, thanks for the advice, but I've been working as an auror for three years over in the States. I was one of the best ones they had, too. I may not seem like it, but I'm a very good fighter," Angelique said. "I once had a guy try to put me under the Imperius Curse, but I was able to resist it. I'm looking forward to the danger." She took a sip from her drink and examined him carefully. "So, this Daily Prophet thing... is that like a newspaper or something? Where can I get a copy?"

"Yeah, its a newspaper. Pretty much the easiest way to get news around here. Despite the fact that it has a tendency to try and only tell the people what they want to hear, rather than the truth." Christian said frowning a little. "You can usually find them being sold all over the place. "I'm sure they have a stack of them for sale somewhere in here or right outside." He added, downing the last few drops of his drink and ordering another one.

"Hmmm, I'll have to check that out then," Angelique said, looking around. "So, what did you say your name was, by the way? Or did you? I don't remember if you said it. I mean, if you're running for Minister of Magic, you really should work on getting your name out there."

"Uh...no, I didn't say what it was." Christian said. "But, its Christian Matthews. And I'm the head of the Department of Law Enforcement in the ministry. So actually, as an Auror, I guess you'll be working under me. Not directly, but just in general." He added. "And what did you say your first name was?"

"Oh. Well, it's nice to meet you, Christian. I'm Angelique." She reached out her hand for him to shake it. "I guess if you're head of Magical Law Enforcement, then we'll probably be seeing each other again. It was nice talking to you." She dropped a few coins on the counter to pay for her butterbeer, then stood up. "I guess I'll see if I can find a copy of the Daily Prophet."

Christian gave her a friendly nod before she left. He decided to order one more firewhiskey before he would leave.
