Laura had no idea what made her decide to run for Minister of Magic. It was very unlike her to make a decision on the whim like that, and yet here she was. Going into the Leaky Cauldron for a drink, she thought about her chances of actually winning this. The other two candidates were more well-known. What did she have? Nothing. She was a quiet school teacher that really never did anything to present herself in the middle of any scene. However, she was not about to sit about and do nothing. If she was going to lose this election, she was going to at least put somewhat of an effort into it.
But, where to begin? She had no experience with this. No idea how to put together a campagne to run for Minister. The only thing she did know was history. She knew that history showed it was very unlikely an unknown would be elected into office. Especially in times like this. However, because she knew history, she knew exactly what the people wanted and needed. Bravery was never her strong point. She rather be locked up in a room, left alone to her books. But, now she found herself in this situation, she had to make the best of it.

Tristan had just finished a long shift at St. Mungo's and headed to the Leaky Cauldron for a pint. Tonight definitely felt like an ale night; just the kind of thing he could drink and relax a little. There had been a lot of injuries to repair today due to a fight that had broken out at a Quidditch game. Now he was tired and more than a bit annoyed. He walked into the pub and headed for the bar. "Pint of ale," he said to the bartender. Once he had the drink in his hand, he took a long sip from the glass, then looked around. Spotting a woman nearby, he looked at her slyly for a moment, then took another gulp before approaching her. "You know, a beautiful woman should never drink alone," he said, grinning.

The bartender arrived with her drink when a tired looking man sat next to her at the bar. Laura took a glance at the state of him and wondered what he does to look so tired. Her mind wandered off to the election again as she started to drink from her cup. However, she was brought out of her thoughts by the man's voice. She turned and smiled back at him. "Well, then, I guess I won't be drinking alone," Laura answered the man.
She took another sip of her drink. "I'm Laura," she introduced herself. Being cooped up at Hogwarts, she forgot what it was like to be in the presence of other people. It was great to talk to other people that weren't teachers.

Tristan smiled. He liked the looks of this woman; she seemed confident and clever. And after a day of dealing with miserable patients, he really needed some intelligent conversation. "I'm Tristan," he said. "It's nice to meet you, Laura. So, at the risk of sounding cliche, what's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?"

Laura laughed at the comment. It really was cheesy, but it was still cute. She took a sip of her drink, then placing it down. "Well, I needed to come out and think for a bit," she answered her. "You see, I did something really stupid and put my name in for the election of the new Minister. I know absolutely nothing about politics. I'm just a quiet school teacher. What do I know about making a community function?"
She sighed deeply and took another sip. It was really a surprise how much she could reveal to him. Those thoughts had been running through her mind, but it wasn't until now did she finally vocalized them.

"Running for Minister of Magic, eh?" said Tristan, raising his eyebrow at her. "That's really very interesting. You know, people make it out that politics is difficult, but it's really no big deal. It's really just about telling people what they want to hear. Then doing the opposite." He laughed and took a sip from his drink.

Laura laughed along with him, but she wasn't too sure if that was how she wanted to approach her political career. "And, then, what happens to you when the people realize you didn't fulfill what you promised to them," she said. "Then, you'll be in trouble and have a lot more work to deal with on your hands."

Tristan smiled flirtaciously. He was getting a bit of an idea brewing in his head, and he thought maybe he would try testing the waters a little bit. "Well, you know, sometimes you can't give them what they want. You have to do what's best for them... or what you think is best anyway. And who are they to complain, anyway? Once they vote for you, isn't it pretty much your decision? No one ever does what they promise to do in elections, anyway." He took a sip of his drink, his eyes never leaving hers. "Tell me, what were you thinking when you decided to run in the first place?"

Larua started to laugh along with him, and for some reason, started to blush. It had been an awfully long time since she had been "flirting" (if you can even call it that). She wasn't actually quite sure how to carry herself about. "Well, yes," she said thoughtfully. "That is how politics work, I guess." She had somehow finished her drink and placed the empty class on the bar for the bartender to clear.
"Well, I don't know," she said honestly. "Something needed to change. And, I thought that instead of sitting on my bum complaining about it and lecturing my students to stand up for a change, I thought I would do it. I wanted to fix the problems that we're having. Like, have you heard of these people, this group that's calling themselves Death Eaters? They're terrorizing the country!"
