"That was before..." he started but there was no use in explaining. He wasn't sure what had happened to make him see the light and he could begin to describe it. Not with all the alcohol that was in his system at the time.
"Look, I'm tired Christine. I just want to go to bed." It was closing in on 9:30 in the morning and Dorian had had very little rest.

"Before..." she repeated. So something had changed. So she wasn't a mistake anymore. She squashed the small glimmer of hope that began beating her her heart. It didn't matter. He was too late. She was, as he said, with Alek now. And she might not love Alek the way she loved Dorian, but she did love him. And she wouldn't encourage this, whatever it was.
She finally got a good look at him, and realized that he was just getting home. He had been out all night. Her mind didn't jump to a woman, rather it jumped to work and she groaned inwardly. He was probably exhausted having pulled an all nighter, and she was 'pestering' him again. She really would have to change apartments, maybe even change buildings. She couldn't be around Dorian and not ache.
"Go."

Dorian tensed the muscles in his face before pulling his keys from his pocket and unlocking the door. He pushed open the door and turned to face Christine again. Behind him the apartment was immaculate. It was exactly what one would imagine Dorian Humbert's flat to look like. Sharply decorated and spotlessly clean.
"I hope he makes you happy, Christine. You deserve to be."

She took a few steps away from him, ready to put the encounter behind her when he stopped her in her tracks.
"Don't..." she said shaking her head. She couldn't look at him. "He makes it easier."
But she wasn't sure it was happiness. She wasn't sure she'd ever be happy again. She had nothing left for Dorian. No more words, no more sullen glances to give. She had to leave. She had to leave and she needed something to take away the pain. She hated feeling so out of control. She called and cancelled on Sam and Lyra. Alek was busy avoiding her and she was too volatile to deal with him right now. There was another outlet, another person to call. She had avoided calling him so far out of some gut feeling she couldn't place, but the draw was just too strong with how she was feeling now.
Hopefully Tom wouldn't turn her away.
