She was then lost in his eyes, the tragic beauty of his features, the enigmatic pull that always managed to bring her back to him.
The song finished in a classic dip, and she was still captivated by him. Her hand went to his cheek and her fingertips brushed through the dark locks of hair at the nape of his neck.
Their mouths mere centimeters apart before the faint sound of applause brought her back to the real world. This wasn't her Christian. Her Christian had been a lie. And this Christian didn't love her.
"Thank you...for the dance." she said quietly then pulled away from him.

Christian was losing his touch in his old age.
He watched her go, confused and aroused and soon to be very frustrated. She wasn't getting away that easily. He wanted her body and he wanted the bounty on her head. There was also the nagging voice in his head that pondered why a woman like Diana would have a bounty on her in the first place. And of course that annoying problem of her slipping into his subconscious when he was with Eve.
There were more than enough reasons to follow her.

She heard him behind her and she was annoyed. It had taken a lot for her to walk away from him, and he was infuriatingly irresistible, she wouldn't be able to refuse him much longer. She had to nip this in the bud. She turned to face him.
"Christian..."
She felt it then, some sixth sense that rose the hairs on her neck whenever danger presented itself. She couldn't figure out why until she noticed the peculiar shifting in the people around them. Then she caught his eyes. He was dressed as a waiter, but the weapon he held was clear as day to her trained eye.
He didn't have a clear shot and was moving in quickly, she had to think fast.
"Let's get out of here."

Christian's gaze followed Diana's and he too saw the armed man approaching. Another of the hit wizards come to collect. Christian wasn't losing his reward so easily.
"This way," he said as he took her by the wrist and headed to the right. He pulled his wand and aimed over his shoulder at a small alcove. Moments later there was an explosion that caused everyone in the restaurant to panic, creating a sea of people between the hit wizard and themselves.

She didn't question him, and moved quickly. While he created a distraction, she retrieved charmed rings from her bag, "Take this." she said handing him the glamour that would change his features, disguise his identity, and change his clothing.
She put her own on and her hair changed from the dark brown chestnut locks to vibrant red. She lost four inches of height as her shoes changed from heels to flats, and her long dress became considerably shorter and changed color to match her hair.
"There's an exit through here." she said leading him through the kitchen.
There was a guard covering the exit, blocking their escape. He turned to face them and put a hand up. Diana didn't even stop her long confident strides as she grabbed a knife from the counter and threw it at the guard who fell to the side.

Several of his queries were answered as they made their way out of the restaurant. There was clearly more to Diana than a tight dress and legs for days. She was the type of woman who kept glamoured jewelry in her purse and killed without hesitation. He wasn't certain who she'd pissed off, but she was evidently capable of doing quite a lot of damage. No wonder the bounty was so high.
Christian, who now had blond hair and wore a grey suit, followed Diana through the exit and into the back alleyway. A quick glance showed one direction blocked by large dumpsters and a chain-link fence, the other way led out to the main street where the restaurant's frightened patrons were flooding. Luckily, there was also a carriage waiting near the end of the alley; the driver looking thoroughly confused by the sudden chaos.
"Come on," Christian said as he pulled Diana toward the carriage. He hexed the driver who slumped over and Christian kicked the man off the seat with the heel of his shoe.

Diana didn't even think about the fact that she was 'blowing her cover' by behaving the way she was with Christian. She had grown so accustomed to fighting beside him it wasn't until they were speeding away in the carriage and she looked up at him that she realized she had once again tangled him up in her life.
Why did this happen again?
Because she had no will power when it came to this man. Would she have to obliviate him again? Would she even get the chance to do so?

Whereas Diana knew exactly what she was inadvertently pulling Christian into, Christian was not-so-blissfully ignorant. He had protected Diana out of instinct, not wanting to lose the reward he had worked all night to earn. Especially not to an amateur who thought dressing as a waiter was the way to get the job done. He shook his head slightly as he thought of the played out move the other so-called hit wizard had played.
When they were far enough away, Christian stopped the carriage and parked it in a dark alley. He pulled off the glamoured ring and reverted back to his handsome self, then gave Diana a surprised and intrigued look.
"You just carry these on you for sh*ts and giggles?" He reached for her hand and pulled off her glamoured ring. "Take that off, this redhead look doesn't do you justice."

He let her pull the ring off and her attire and natural features returned, but her expression remained the same: resignation.
Still she tried, "Forget it. It's not that important. Just forget you ever saw me. It shouldn't be that difficult for you." she said stepping down from the seat she had taken next to him.

That wasn't likely to happen. Christian jumped off the seat after her and caught her by the wrist. "You honestly think I can forget you when you're so...sinfully dangerous?"
He laughed at her assertion that he could simply forget and he pulled her toward him. He held her firm body against his and kissed her with an overwhelming sense of passion. He wasn't sure where it come from, but his body responded to her like no one else.

"I'm wha-" she was cut off by his kiss which coupled with their intimate dance, and the adrenaline of escape was more than enough to win her over as she kissed him back.
But she wasn't content with simply letting him kiss her, she never had been. When she was younger she wasn't as confident. She didn't know how to take what she wanted or be forward in bed, that obviously wasn't a problem now. She had no reservations about pulling him against her, wrapping her legs around him, and using the carriage as leverage to pin herself between it and Christian's weight. She eagerly took what Christian so willingly gave, and because she didn't know if this would be the last time they were with one another, she milked the encounter for all it was worth until they were both too tired to move.
Sweaty and sated she looked at him unsure how this had happened again, until it all came crashing back on her. Their dance, the assassins, their mad escape, his words. Most of all his words which evoked so tender a memory it made her ache.
Christian knelt in front of Diana in a display of compassion he'd not yet shown her. "Diana, you are without a doubt the most sinfully dangerous woman I have ever met and that's why I f*cking love you.

It was impossible for her to know every trick to make Christian go wild, but yet again Diana had amazed him. Who the hell was this woman?
"F*ck," he breathed satisfied. "You are f*cking amazing." His compliment was as sincere as humanly possible and as he breathed deeply his mind began to replay how they had gotten to this point.
And that was when he remembered the bounty. F*ck, he thought as he realized something was stopping him from killing her. Was it just that she was such a good shag? That hardly seemed possible as Christian was no stranger to the honeypot strategy, and yet as he had the opportunity to take her out while she was distracted he didn't move.

They had to stop doing this. Derek would skin her alive if he knew that she was here with him, after all his careful planning to keep Christian distracted and useful. Diana was interfering with the mission, and all because she couldn't resist this man. She felt weak, and that's when the doubt and the loathing came in.
She sat up ignoring his compliment unintentionally while once again adjusting her clothing and gathering her belongings. She had to get out of there, and then she had to stay as far away from Christian as possible.

Again with the leaving. If Christian had anything more than lustful feelings for her he might have been hurt. But as it was he was simply curious.
He grabbed her arm as she attempted to leave and he too sat up from the floor of the carriage. "Where is it you're running off to this time?"

She felt jerked back by his voice, she didn't want to leave him, but she needed to. They needed to stop whatever they were doing. She was too confused by all of it. She put a hand to his cheek.
"It's best if you don't know that. This can't happen again."

He hadn't noticed it before, he'd been too busy exploring other parts of her body, but as she put her hand to his face he felt the cool band of metal on her fourth finger. He took her hand in his and looked at the gold band encrusted with small diamonds. At the center was a large emerald.
"Are you married?" he asked. The tone of his voice was something similar to that of a interviewer looking to hire a new employee. It was flat and simply asking for the facts. She was not the first married woman he'd slept with, but this would have made her the first one that he knew of who waited until afterwards to tell him.

She pulled back her hand instinctively.
"I..." she said with a firm shake of her head, "It doesn't matter."
She was technically still married, and bonded, and pregnant. Some things, unlike a ring, she couldn't just disregard when they became complicated. For better or for worse. Merlin what a nightmare.
"I have to go." she said pulling free and exiting the carriage. She didn't look back, she couldn't or else she'd run back to him.
"Please don't follow me."

Christian was now certain she was married and it made sense that she had been skiddish after their trysts. He didn't follow her. Instead he found his pants and pulled a mirror from the pocket, summoning one of his men.
"Put a team on Diana Crawford. Let me know if anyone else if following her." After he was certain he'd have her whereabouts and companions within the hour, he put away his mirror and dressed. He left the stolen carriage in the alleyway and apparated to his home, Diana still on his mind.

It was fortunate that Diana had decided not to go back to Burke's flat. She wandered aimlessly for a bit before deciding on a hotel. She realized then that the assassins must have been after her as Christian had feared, and she didn't want to lead that back to him. She would need to prepare some privacy spells before she could resume communication with Burke. They had prepared for this.
Once alone at the hotel she took a shower. She waited until the hot water battered down against her before she broke down into tears. She missed Christian more than she could ever think was possible.
Once again she was pregnant and alone, but this time it was her doing. Christian would have been there for his child, he would have been there for her, they would have been a family. She wouldn't have been alone.
She cried until there were no more tears to cry, begging the empty space around her to bring him back to her. Then she pulled herself together and fell to the bed for a fitful sleep.
