Christine had been emboldened by Alek's confidence in her several times in their short history together. Today was Alek's turn to find encouragement in Christine's faith in him. He smiled as he looked to his plate and began to eat.

It was good. She was quiet while she ate, enjoying the varied flavors. He wasn't a master chef, not yet, but he had potential. It was a shame that potential wasn't nurtured.
As they ate she tried to think of all the things she had to do that day: apartment searching, securing funds, informing the ministry should any news come concerning M, et cetera, but all she could think about was the way Alek smiled.

After several minutes in silence, Alek spoke. "So, have I earned another demonstration of skill, or will I be escorting you to St. Mungo's to have your stomach pumped?"

She put a finger to her mouth and made an expression as though she were thinking it over even though her plate had been practically licked clean.
"I may need lunch and dinner to decide...and you know a few snacks in case I get hungry in between." she laughed before scooting her chair back and holding her hand out for him.

"But of course. You think I'd let a house guest go hungry? I'll take you out for dinner, though. You shouldn't have to suffer through my cooking so many times in one day." He stood from the table and cleared their plates with a flick of his wand. He set the dishes to washing and the left overs to the fridge.

She sobered and came up behind him after he cleared their plates, "It was delicious Alek." she told him sincerely.
He was a dangerous animal capable of terrible rages, but beneath his fierce countenance there was a lonely insecure little boy capable of great love and great kindness. She didn't know what was happening between them, but if there was even a chance of bringing him happiness she would try.

Alek turned to Christine and gave a half smile at her compliment. The sincerity of it, without the fear or respect he received from his wolves or the love that accompanied his sister's praises, made Alek feel somewhat uneasy. He changed the subject in what he felt was a nonchalant way (he wouldn't have responded well had Christine said anything about his behavior).
"Do you have any plans for where you might be moving? Not that you aren't welcome to stay as long as you need."

She gave him a sly look until he added that she was welcome to stay, " I brought some pamphlets and was going to look at a few places today. I appreciate the offer, but I do not wish to impose."
She was a little amazed that he still carried affection for her considering her wayward behavior as of late.

Alek believed the reason he could continue to show interest in Christine was because he was only using her. He could feign attraction so long as he had an end goal in mind. But his ploy was also the reason that he could sustain his affection for her after she repeatedly turned him down. If he thought that his feelings were real he would have interpretted her refusal just as seriously. But the delusion persisted as he offered to accompany her into the city to look at apartments.

"I'd like that." she beamed at him after accepting his offer. He had very little clue how much her rejection hurt her as well.
Part of her was still holding on to the feelings she had for Dorian, and the other part didn't want to use Alek as a rebound, though it was clear she was interested.
She wanted to get to know him. She was fascinated by him in a way she hadn't been with Dorian. With Dorian it was as though her heart and soul already recognized him as hers. As though she knew him without knowing him and everything else simply came easily.
But with Alek there was a strong attraction, and a deep mystery. He pulled her in and confused her.
