Derek asked only a few more questions, things Diana may have needed or would have proved useful, but it was clear his anger was dissipating as he neared the end of the interrogation. He had discussed it with Diana. He would do the proper research to make sure that if she killed Christian then she would remain standing. They would keep him bound in the room and their collective guard up until it could be finished.
When he was finished he sighed, "You never should have taken that contract Ward." he said with more sympathy than hatred.
"Do you love her?"

That was something that Christian had only questioned in the beginning of his real relationship with Diana, but he'd reasoned his doubts away and spoke truthfully and with certainty. "If I hadn't taken it there would have been someone else coming after her. And if we took that one down, they would have sent another. I don't regret taking the contract. I'd do it again if it meant I could protect her."
"I f*cking love that woman to the end of the God-damned Earth. You f*cking tell her that, Burke!"

Derek didn't have to, there was a mirror in the room that was relaying everything to one downstairs enabling Diana to watch safely from a distance.
While Derek had been begrudgingly moved by Christian's words and obvious sentiments Diana remained cold.
Derek sighed after glancing at the mirror. That was all the questions he had.
"She knows." he said as a parting gift.
He used magic to gag Christian once again as he knew that Diana would be entering the room soon.
She was timely if anything and made a motion for Derek to leave. He hesitated then went downstairs.

He was only able to say one last thing before Derek silenced him. "Take care of my son," he pleaded with his friend as the gag was shoved back into his mouth.
Diana appeared a moment later and Christian looked at her apologetically. He loved her and everything he had done over the past few months had been for the empty, emotionless woman who stood before him. Christian didn't fight. He knew what was coming and he had prepared himself.

Derek left with a chill following him at Christian's words. He disliked the man intensely, no that wasn't true, he hated that Christian had lied. He hated that Christian had taken the job in the first place, but he didn't hate the man. He had come to regard Christian as a friend, but he knew the betrayal was nothing to Diana's. Something had to be done, she would regret killing him.
****
Diana merely looked through him, she hadn't let it all in, she couldn't let it all in without dying in the process.
"Burke is going to verify your man's information. It may take a while, but I'll make it quick afterward. He'll be back and you can tell him if there's anything you'd like to pass on."

Christian couldn't speak due to the gag in his mouth. He couldn't tell her he was sorry that ue had kept this from her, though he wasn't really. He was sorry she had found out this way. Christian knew that Diana would not have accepted that while he held a contract on her life with one of her many enemies that he had absolutely no intention of seeing the job through.
He pulled himself up on the bed as much as he could while being restrained. The wound from where Diana's knife had sliced its way through his shoulder burned as he adjusted himself. His eyes were fixed on hers. He shook his head. "Don't do this," he tried to say through the fabric muffling his words.

Diana didn't need to hear the words to understand Christian's expression. She could read him as easily as a newspaper. The agony, remorse, and anger was plain on his face and yet she remained unmoved.
"Until tomorrow."
She turned and left without a backward glance.

His plea made no difference in her expression. She looked at him as if he was nothing more than a nameless cog in the machine set to keep Diana from her daughter. Christian's eyes followed her from the room.
After she was gone, Christian pulled again at his restraints to no avail. He looked about the room for his wand before realizing that he had dropped it in Copperbottom's office. Even if Diana or Derek had thought to grab it before they left neither of them would have left it in the room with him. But this was his house and there had to be something of use to him. Of only he could move further than his bed.
