"That's...that's what I want." she lied. The charm broke then unable to stand up to the depth of her misery, she turned away from him.
"I have to finish packing." she said dismissing him.
Her world was a storm of overwhelming emotions. Her heart was breaking, shattering into a thousand pieces, this was so much harder than leaving him had been in the past. Her shoulders were shaking, she wanted him to hold her again. She was so close to taking back everything she had said and begging him to forgive her, but held herself apart. She was clenching her fist so tightly her nails broke skin, but she didn't care. She bit her tongue and let the pain keep her quiet.

He saw her. Only for a moment. Her charm had gone and the real Christine was standing before him in anguish. But she turned away from him. He thought it better that way.
He walked past her through the door to the sitting room. Not saying another word to her as he passed. There was nothing left to say. He shut the door behind him, affording her the privacy he knew she needed. Not to pack. He knew she wasn't packing.
He summoned his patronus and sent word to Lex to return as swiftly as possible. Christine needed to be moved. He would not be joining them.

She cried, if crying was the right word for it. Great harsh sobs that wracked her entire body as she fell on the bed. The great lump in her throat choked her, and her chest felt a deep aching pain. The room was silenced and she felt safe to whisper the truth, that she was doing it for him, that the pain was for him, that things would be alright, that she loved him. She'd learn how to breathe again.

The past few days since she had verified the relationship between Christine and Dorian had been slightly awkward. She caught their looks, she understood their lingering touches, and she felt as though she were an intruder in what was one long private moment. She was glad they were moving to the new safe house and would be taking shifts again. She was also glad to get out of the Avalon for the day to the new safe house. She imagined the couple would spend the morning all over each other, and while she didn't imagine anything in too much detail, she was happy for her brother.
She did not imagine she would be getting a patronus telling her that she was needed so quickly. She had just barely arrived at the Safe house to set things up.
Her mind immediately thought there was danger, and something had happened to Dorian or Christine. She dropped everything and returned to the hotel.

Lex arrived and Dorian was grateful for the slight relief she brought to the hotel suite. Even if it only lasted a minute. He stood in the living room, his hands still clenched into fists. "Get her out of here." His voice was cold and emotionless.

Lex had her wand at the ready and entered the hotel room expecting a fight, only to find a sullen Dorian. Her heart was still pounding.
"What? Are you okay? Is Christine..." she trailed off looking toward the bedroom. Something had happened, but she was realizing quickly that it wasn't the life or death situation she thought it was.
She moved past him to go to the bedroom, she opened it to find Christine on the bed. She was curled in the fetal position crying silently.
"What the bloody hell is going on?"

Realizing she wasn't alone Christine jumped from the bed. Her face was twisted in pain and surprise.
Lex was here already? She was saying goodbye already? She had said goodbye, her words had been harsh and unforgiving as she had intended them to be. She wiped her face and looked downward in shame.
She shook out of it and went to the bathroom to reapply her charm.

Dorian didn't look at Lex, imagining the sort of looks she would be giving him. "I'm going to the office to talk with Angelique. You're taking Christine to the safe house. My replacement will meet you there."

"What? No. What?" she was confused looking between them. A heartbroken girl, a determine Dorian, who at the moment resembled their father in his determination, and Lex was caught in the middle. But she didn't work so hard to be partnered with him to lose him now. Christine was in the bathroom so Lex went to Dorian.
"What are you talking about? Did someone find out about you two? Is that what's going on?"

"You were right," he admitted in a quiet, emotionless voice. "My feelings for her are getting in the way of my job." He would hunt down this madman and lock him away in Azkaban. That is, if he could manage to keep from killing the monster on sight. His fists shook as he thought of it. He breathed deeply.
He looked at Lex, his eyes boring into hers with a plea. "Keep her safe, Aleksandra." He felt a twisting in his chest as he realized he was leaving Christine's life in someone else's hands.

Lex heard the despair in his voice. It was clear neither party was thrilled with the outcome of whatever had happened in the short time that she had been gone, though she couldn't imagine what it was.
She realized he wasn't going to change his mind. Not when it came to Christine's safety. If he thought he was a threat he'd take himself off the case.
"But.." she sighed. She'd do this for him, for her brother.
"Alright Dorian. She'll be safe. I promise."

Dorian nodded his thank you, unable to say it aloud, then turned and walked into the kitchen. He would give Christine the space she needed without fear of seeing him, but he had to make sure she left before he disenchanted the room and set a new trap for the killer. The hotel staff would believe they were still on lock-down, but if the killer came for her he would be met with a terrible surprise.

Christine was gathering her things, last minute packing, when she realized there was nothing she wanted to bring with her. Everything she had reminded her of him and their time together and the thought of bringing it with her when she now had to say goodbye to him again was only prolonging the torture.
Her mask was in place again. She was the picture of serenity as she exited the bedroom without her bags. She didn't look at Dorian. She couldn't. She looked at Lex then looked at the ground, "I'm ready." she said very quietly.
