Ever since their grandparents died and Thomas officially took over as Adele's guardian they had a monthly ritual that included greasy food and extreme indulgence.
Thomas knew he wasn't the best guardian in the world, he was far from the best parent, but he tried. Adele was the most important person in his life, and she was all he had left, perhaps that was why they clung to eachother so much.
Today he was running a little behind on their lunch date having to finish up on some paperwork at the office but he sent an owl.
Hey Brat,
I'm running a few minutes late, order for me will ya? Be there soon.
All my love, Aaron
Adele was the only one who called him by his middle name and he rather liked that, it would sound so foreign on anyone else's lips. Then again most people at the office just called him Graham.

Adele was, as per usual, early. Her punctuality may have stemmed from not wanting to worry her brother by running late, but she was now early for everything, greasy dinners included.
Of course, her punctuality also meant that she was more than just a little appreciative of the owl he sent telling her that he would not be. The small ministry owl landed at their regular table at full tilt, skidding a little and flapping his wings to stay up, before stealing a French fry from a preordered plate and taking off.
As a general rule, Adele was a tragic character. When she was riled up, sarcasm became her best friend. But if anyone could make her smile and laugh, it was Aaron. And if anyone could make her as worried, it was also her brother. Of all the dangerous jobs he could have chosen... She'd hoped it would be something safe. Chef. Robe maker. Writer. Anything other than law enforcement.
She sighed, folding the note away, and caught the waitress' attention. The woman knew the regular order, of course, and was putting it in, leaving Adele to watch out the window for her brother to arrive.

Caleb had grown accustomed to the fancy fare served at the castle. Even at the school they had relatively healthy cooked meals. Now a days, a person really had to search for good old fashioned junk food, and while he enjoyed his healthier life style, sometimes he needed a break.
This was the purpose behind strolling into the burger joint: manly cravings of grease indulgence. Maybe it was fate, or maybe he was just a lucky son of a gun.
"Well well, if it isn't one of my favorite students."

Somehow, Adele had missed him walking up to the restaurant. She didn't see him come inside, and she was thoroughly wrapped up in watching the outside world that she seemed kind of oblivious to everything happening inside. She probably was.
The voice near her did not startle her out of her thoughts or anything like that, but it did get her attention. Taking a breath, she turned to see who was addressing her while her brain registered what he said. When her professors' gaze locked with her, her lungs stopped working mid inhale.
Was he being sarcastic with that remark? She remembered a pretty heated interaction in his Arithmancy class... That she stormed out of. "You mean the one who dropped your class?" she asked with a smile, to show that what she said was not intended seriously. "Hi."
It was unfair, how casually he could stand there when he had to know that every girl was looking at him. She forced her lungs to work again, just stopping herself from offering him her brother's chair across from her. "Fancy seeing you here."

He remembered a forbidden dance with a pretty girl who had the bluest eyes he had ever seen. Eyes that shattered his defenses and pierced his armor, and while he could convince himself that he didn't favor her over any other, the ache he felt when she wasn't there to tease became more noticable as the days went by.
"The very one." he said his eyes twinkling at her, "Mind if I sit?" he asked.

There it was, like he was reading her mind, the very moment she decided not to offer Aaron's chair. She glanced out the window again, swearing her heart was beating double time. Stop it. This was... Well, unfair, if she was going to overuse a phrase.
"Actually, I'm meeting someone," she said, the words just tumbling past her lips. Someone. Not her brother- why hadn't she clarified right from the start? She was a Ravenclaw, she was supposed to be able to think quicker than this. Maybe that was the smarter thing to say, because there would be questions when Aaron came. But that look from him was enough to make her forget that. "But your welcome to stay until he gets here."

"Someone?" the question was out of his mouth before he could stop himself along with an accompanying frown and the same thought ran through his head. He was in Ravenclaw or at least he was, wasn't he supposed to think before he spoke?
But more importantly who was she meeting? A boy? A boyfriend? Did she have such a thing? Stop it. He shouldn't be having these thoughts about a student.
"I wouldn't want to intrude." The hell he wouldn't.

Adele didn't respond. Not even so much as a blink of her eyes in his direction. She expected that reaction from him, didn't she? And at least she was quick enough to correctly interpret that reaction. She wanted to simply nod, let him think it was a some one like that. But instead, she decided to play innocent, and she just nodded.
"Don't worry about it. He's running late, anyway." It wouldn't last. If it came down to it, she would introduce Aaron as her brother, and Caleb as her professor, instead of the man who was much too old for her who she couldn't seem to get away from- and who she didn't want to get away from. That would stop both of their questions.
She gestured towards the other seat. "Please."

It was a good thing he couldn't read her mind though they were both full of questions and answers that neither one of them would speak. Had he known that she thought he was too old for her he would have been offended, nevermind that he thought that himself. Truth was he was barely older than she was and their infatuation, unspoken as it was, wasn't a terrible thing.
Why were they both hiding it?
At her mild resistance and curiosity over this new person who would be arriving Caleb sat down. "So...how's summer treating you?"
He didn't want this to be awkward but he felt inwardly like he was failing...he was overwhelmed by her presence and didn't know what to say. He should leave, but he was glued to the seat.

Adele shrugged lightly, her eyes following his form as he sat down. Oh, her brother would have questions, but Merlin if that was the last thing on her mind right now. "It's summer... The break has been nice but there's not much to do. I won't mind when term starts again. You?"
Before he had the chance to answer, the waitress was back with two burgers, milkshakes, and another order of fries, and she was probably preparing herself to see Adele's brother. The pause confirmed this for Adele, and the waitress recovered quickly before heading away.
"Sorry... Would you like something?

He smiled, just like a ravenclaw eager to go back to school. He was about to say as much when the food arrived, she really was expecting somebody, and someone with a healthy appetite, and if the expression on the waitress's face was something to go off of this was a normal occurrance, the thought shifted in his mind before he could stop it, did Adele have a boyfriend?
Suddenly Caleb felt very old and very out of place, "No...Thank you...I actually should probably get going."

"But you just came in," Adele said, for the first time in maybe her entire life, not thinking about the words before they were out of her mouth.
That game she tried to play, for reasons unknown even to her, had worked. She felt like an idiot. He made her heart beat faster than she knew was normal, and she didn't know how to do this flirting thing. Especially with a professor. Of course, there was the whole fear about anyone she got close to dying, so Caleb had quite a few things stacked against him.
Still, she wasn't stupid. She was a Ravenclaw, after all, and she saw the change in his expression. "It's my brother," she offered. "I'm waiting for my brother."

At her revelation the air seemed to go out of him, if a person could deflate like a baloon that person would have been him, and suddenly the irony of their first meeting involving his sister hit him like a ton of bricks. Still none of this made sense.
They were both in Ravenclaw, they valued logic above all else and yet here they were acting like any other adolesent children. Caleb wasn't one for these games, he just didn't lke them but in this situation they had to tip toe around one another. And it was difficult for a man like him to date, well not extremely difficult, but because of his age and his job he was neither old enough to date the women he found intellectually stimulating and too old to date the girls in his age group.
And then there was Adele...and he couldn't escape her eyes.
"You have a brother?" he asked unable to escape his curiosity.

Adele nodded slowly. She would have been ashamed of herself if he'd called her out on playing games. It wasn't her intention, and it was a truly childish thing to do if it was her intention.
"I had four. There's just Aaron now. He's running a little late." What else could she say without boring Caleb to death? Aaron was her family, though, and he meant the world to Adele.
"And he, err... likes to eat. A lot." she gestured to the array of food now in front of them, and the thought of her brother's reaction to Caleb had of course crossed her mind, but she was shoving it away and choosing to deal with it later.

Four brothers...down to one? Caleb knew her story was tragic, she had that air about her and he had heard whispers here and there, but hearing it said outloud resonated very strongly with him. Suddenly he was even more protective over her than before, he could only imagine how protective her brother must be, Caleb only had Sam and yet he was fiercely protective.
Instead of dwelling on it however, as he could only guess people did, he turned to humor,"Well I'd imagine he needs his strength to keep up with you."

Unexpectedly, Adele let out a chuckle and rolled her eyes. "Right, I'm such a handful," she said sarcastically. Adele was very much the quiet, sit in the back and be quiet type of girl.
And for the life of her, sitting across from Caleb now, she couldn't remember why she stormed out of his class. She remembered it was heated, and he'd been just as passionately angry, but she couldn't remember why. Merlin knew she wasn't going to bring it up, but it still ate at her.

As if on cue Aaron stepped through the door. He had a noticeable presence anywhere he went, when he was younger it was as if a carefree wind swept him most places, but after everything had happened, that wind became more of a force. He eyed the entire place with a quick glance, a move he hadn't been able to shake since initial training. When his eyes fell on Adele he smiled somewhat only to frown a half second later when he noticed she had company.
He let that wind bring him to their table, a table that was meant for him and his sister, not this intruder.
"Sorry I'm late...I trust you've been in good company all the same however." he said with a pointed look toward Caleb.

Adele knew that look well from her brother. She glanced between Aaron and Caleb, suddenly not entirely confident how this was going to shake out.
"Aaron, hi," she said, standing up to hug her older brother. "I was terribly lonely without you. I had to coerce this gentleman to keep me company," she answered, jokingly, before shaking her head and giving them a proper introduction. "Aaron, this is.... Professor Renneau. Caleb. And this is my brother, Aaron."
She glanced around, moving behind Aaron to grab another chair, again unsure what to do in this situation.

He probably should have been more aware of his surroundings but he couldn't take his eyes off of Adele, and the truth was when the handsome gentleman came to their table he was immediately on guard until he learned that Aaron was her brother.
For a moment he was objective and thought about how he would be if he came across some guy with Sam, but given Sam's personality it was just something that he had to deal with.
"Professor Renneau yes, but Caleb is fine." he smiled offering a hand to Adele's brother.

"Aren't you a little young to be a teacher?" he asked not taking his hand yet. He glanced at his sister and not wanting to be rude for her sake he caved and shook it.
He knew that look it was not a teacher student look it was a male female attraction look and he did not like anyone giving that look to his little sister.
"What do you teach? Is Adele one of your students?"
