The last place you were sure to find Ashton was a garden, well that wasn't necessarily so, he did run a successful underground apothecary and that required long hours spent in a garden, but a garden simply for it's beauty and a flower in his hair simply to put a girl at ease was not his normal day. Ashton couldn't care less, he felt honored being led to her favorite places.
Just then as she paused the sunlight hit her and the flowers in a stunning way and he held his breath. It wasn't that he wasn't listening to her, but it was in that moment he realized he wanted her. He wanted her more than anything he had ever wanted and he was a man to get what he wanted.
"You're beautiful."
It surprised him that he admitted as such, and his expression said that he wasn't expecting to say it.

Allaire was more than happy that he took her offer to come for a visit. She was always more than happy that he was allowing her to show him her favorite places. There were certain things and feelings that she could not fully explain. She knew that Ashton made her happy and she knew she also cared for him more than just a friend. Allaire had not had the chance to actually talk to either of her sisters about what was going on. The only thing she had the opportunity to tell about what was going on was her journal that she hid in her room.
As she was leading him toward the library, Allaire sensed Ashton stopped. She heard his comment. It seemed like it was out of the blue, yet honest. For a moment, she felt like her heart hit her feet. Never had she received a compliment like that from a male. She turned around almost shyly. She wasn't exactly sure what to say. A shy smile appeared on her face as she looked at him. She tucked part of her hair behind her ear.
She could tell he meant what he said. "Th-Thank you," she said blushing a deep red.

He wanted to kiss her. Badly. Somehow with her standing in the sun she had become a vision of his future, of everything he wanted in life, and of what he would work his rather well shaped, derriere off to have. He had to get out of there. No, he had to talk to her father. No, he had to do whatever she would have him do because he was putty to her whims.
She was young, hell they both were, but that was how it worked in their society and he needed to make sure he did this right. He would have to ask her father permission to court his daughter, though the notion was archaic a man like Benjamin Burke was not someone you wanted to insult, and this was the way things were done.
"I don't think I've ever seen something quite so lovely." his hand itched to touch her cheek to see if her skin was really as soft as it looked, and suddenly he felt very unworthy.

For some reason, these compliments sounded a little different from his other compliments. Sure, she knew that he meant them before but this time was and felt different. For a moment, she felt as if she were reading a book and she was one of the main characters.
If Allaire's face could get any hotter or redder, it would have. She felt like her cheeks were on fire. Biting the inside of her cheek, she smiled again. If Ashton ever asked her father about courting her, Allaire was sure that she would have been more excited that she had ever been before. She honestly had never really liked other males. The stories of the Slytherin males were almost infamous for some. However, she had never heard a story about Ashton, but that didn't necessarily mean he didn't have a few stories. Allaire made an exception in Ashton's case and she glad she did. There wasn't anyone like him. She couldn't imagine herself with anyone else.
"Thank you," she said again in a quiet like tone. She studied his face for a moment. For once, Allaire would admit to herself that she wished he would touch her. "Your compliments are always nice to hear." It seemed that Ashton's compliments meant more to her than anyone else's. Without thinking she took a small step forward. "You look ever so handsome," she said with a shy tone.

It was almost instinctual for Ashton to meet her step for step, and he held his breath as he did so, then almost as suddenly he stepped back breaking whatever spell she had cast on him.
"Thank you Allaire."
He couldn't, wouldn't, touch her until he spoke with her father. He wasn't in this for kicks, he was in it for the long haul. Ashton never felt the need to spread his reputation like some of the boys in his house, he preferred to keep his "conquests" content and quiet, and he always treated women with the greatest of care. That didn't mean however that he wasn't used to every charm and trick in the book, and had he meant to merely steal a few kisses then he would have ended the day differently, as it was she was making it damn near impossible to wait.
"About that other favorite place of yours...?" he asked a little hopeful, and a little nervous at the same time.

Allaire let out a breath she did not know she was holding. When she did, she brought herself back to reality. If he had touched her, she was pretty sure her father would not have appreciated it. Her mind had clouded for just a moment with the all of a sudden compliments. Bringing everything back together, there was a bright smile when he asked her about the her other favorite place. This brought her back around and she knew she could focus once again. Never had Allaire lost her focus on the task she was first doing. It was an odd feeling to be knocked off track, but now she was getting back on track.
"Of course," she said with her bright smile. "It's probably an obvious choice, but this place is my favorite inside the house." Her parents always knew where she could be found. In a way, it was almost predictable, but that was just fine.
Allaire led him toward the library. "This room has ceiling to floor shelves," she said with excitement in her voice. Reaching the library, Allaire opened the door and slipped inside. There was a bay window in the library that she headed toward. "This is the place, especially on rainy days, or if it is too cold to go outside. You still have a great view of the garden from here for those spaced out, daydreaming moments."

He knew her favorite room would be the Library, it just seemed that wherever she was there was a book in her hands, and he liked that about her. Still he was somewhat on autopilot, clenching and unclenching his hands to keep from touching her. Seeing her home brought him back to earth however, and he was reminded that he had a long way to go before he thought he'd be able to provide for her the way she was used to being provided for.
His parents weren't wealthy, they weren't poor by any means, but the Burkes gave another definition of wealth and status, he'd have to earn his way up to prove to both her father and himself that he could take care of her and provide for her.
"It suits you." he was being quiet he knew, and ordinarily he could positively ooze with charm, but for now he had too much on his mind.

Having Ashton as a guest in her house was probably the highlight of her summer. She hoped that he would come for a visit more than just one day. Maybe she was thinking dangerously. She thought that she could very well be going down the road of heart break. Goodness knew if that happened, her demeanor would change for sure. However, Allaire was not worrying about that now. Currently, her mind was focused on the present. She knew that if she focused on the future, it would only cloud the current day.
There was a light smile on her face. She knew that something was on his mind. Of course he was great at being smooth and rarely ever letting his actual emotion show through. This time, however, there was a hint that there was something on his mind. For a moment, Allaire studied his face. She wanted to know what was going on in that head of his, but she was unsure if she should ask. She also wanted to touch his face, but was also unsure if she should do that either. Unlike Ashton, Allaire's emotions were majority of the time evident on her face.
Instead of asking what she wanted, she brightened her smile. "Wait right here, I have something for you. I'll be back in just a moment." Allaire slid past him and ran up the stairs. She quickly ran to her room and grabbed the box in her nightstand. Returning downstairs, Allaire slowed down, remembering her manners. She also remembered her mother telling her that a lady should not rush.
Returning to the library, Allaire had the red box in hand. She wrapped the bow around it herself. Inside was a pocket watch she found in one of the antique shops. She had 'Lane' engraved on the inside. "I found this and thought that you would like it," she said as she offered him the box.

Ashton watched her every movement as she swept away and just as quickly swept back in. Though she had only been gone a few moments it was as if she had taken the very light out of the room, the very air as well. This was bad. Very bad. Ashton was a bad man, and though he felt as if he and Mr. Burke could exchange some interesting tales, both men knew that the women in their life were more than they deserved.
Allaire was like a flower and he was no doubt a desert storm, their attraction or whatever it was he felt for her, would only damage her in the end.
His mind was spinning back and forth, one moment vowing to be the man she deserved, the next knowing that it was an impossible task, and while he prided himself on being able to accomplish anything he knew in his heart that he would never really be good enough for her, especially when she handed him such a thoughtful and truly appreciated gift.
He held on to the pocket watch reverently. "Oh Ms. Burke...I'm quite at a loss for words. Thank you...sincerely."

Allaire smiled. She has glad that he liked the watch. "I thought it suited you," she commented clasping her hands behind her back. He had bought her a nice gift before, granted it was a book, but she thought it was a great gift. She only thought it would be nice to reciprocate the gift giving. After all, the only person, or people rather, that ever gave her gifts were her family. She did not really have anyone else to get a gift for.
"The gentleman at the shop said that you could enchant the watch to tell you almost anything, such as if you had an appointment or if you were expecting something at a certain time. He also said that you could enchant it to have an alarm on it if you so desired." Allaire's cheeks had a pink tint to them. It was out of excitement that he actually liked her gift. Although, part of her thought that even if she attempted to make a picture book (her drawings were awful), he would like it.
"It took me awhile to find something I thought you would like. I thought about a book of poetry, but I could never find the right one, then I saw that in a shop."

"You shouldn't concern yourself. Your presence is gift enough." he said honestly. He was the one who needed to prove himself to her. He was the one who needed to buy things, and woo and win her if he could, she didn't have to do anything, the fact that she had thought of him and bought him something so precious made his heart do funny and unfamiliar things.

Allaire waved off the compliment, but not before blushing yet again. "Your words and actions get you far," she said with a smile. "But I thought that I should give a gift because you give me a gift. That gift is that you respond to any requests and you are enjoyable company. I cannot say that about many, so far." She smiled. It was true. Although, there was no other male that had caught her eye or had been a person she would invite to her house. It took someone highly important to her to invite them to her house.
"I had to find something that I thought would show my appreciation." Allaire was never one to really invite friends over for a weekend. She did have a few friends at school and they would have their 'girl weekends' when they would go to Hogsmeade or the like.
