Ilsa rolled her eyes. She should be lucky that Nadine never yelled at her, because Merlin knew any parent with less patience would be all over her on a daily basis. But Nadine was just letting this go. Not only did it frustrate her daughter, but it made her feel bad, too.
"Mum... I'm sorry, okay? I'll be good tonight. Unless she starts up." Well, the woman couldn't expect her to keep her mouth shut unconditionally, could she? "And really, stop worrying about me. I'm 17. I have time to figure things out. All I want right now is just to enjoy life. You don't live forever, you know."

They had just reached the boundaries of Hogwarts, so Nadine stopped and turned to her daughter. As frustrating as Ilsa was, Nadine loved her fiercely. There wasn't anything that she wouldn't do for the girl, but she just wanted her to be all right. And even with all of her experience in psychology, she just couldn't seem to reach Ilsa, to help her understand that they just wanted the best for her. But Ilsa was right... there was a certain point where Nadine was going to have to let go, and let Ilsa decide what was best on her own. It was just so hard to do. Lorelei had been difficult enough, but at least she didn't stray far. Nadine was afraid that if she let go of Ilsa, she would lose her completely.
"I can't help but worry about you," she said. "You're my baby girl and I love you."
She sighed and held out her arms to Ilsa. "I hope you're not too cool to hug your mom?"

"No, Mum." Ilsa said, indulging her mother and hugging her. Though, truth be told, she wasn't sure she would have if her friends had been around. It wasn't that she was ashamed of her mother, but school could be cruel, and the second you strayed from the label you carried, life became hell.
"Let's go home. I have a feeling it's been a long day for both of us."
She had to work on a plan, too, to get her father to let her go to Hogsmeade, though she had a sinking feeling it wouldn't be happening. Although.... if Lorelei insisted on bringing her boytoy, Ilsa might break down one time and just bring Ramon for the awkwardness of it.

Nadine hugged her daughter tightly, glad to know that Ilsa hadn't slipped away from her completely. She had actually waited until they were definitely out of sight of any of Ilsa's friends to even ask for a hug, because she knew how kids were. No seventeen year old girl wanted to be seen by her friends hugging her mother.
"I love you, baby girl," she whispered, giving Ilsa a kiss on the top of her head. "Let's go home."
Still holding onto her daughter, Nadine apparated them both back to the house.
