He was right of course about her mother having her head, she just didn't want to get in any deeper than she already was. Being with Justin was like playing with fire, Natasha had no intentions to marry anyone. She wanted to run her father's company, she didn't need a man.
"If I didn't know better Scotts, I would think that you were genuinely proposing." her brow raised and she gave him a skeptical look saying she couldn't trust him as far as she could throw him. What was all this talk about it not being pretend? Did he actually think that she would give up everything for him? She barely knew him.

"If I ever propose to you for real, my dear, believe me, you'll know it."
There was a seductive glint in his eyes as he looked at her over the top of his glass. It annoyed him just a little bit that she was trying so hard to fight this. Yes, he liked the challenge, and the idea of slowly winning her heart appealed to him, but first he had to get her to agree to this plan. But he still had a few tricks up his sleeve.
Not for the first time since this little game had begun, he wondered idly why he had started it in the first place. Why did he want Natasha to fall in love with him? He pushed aside the foolish notion that he was in love with her... but he was definitely attracted to her. That kiss still boiled in his blood, and he wanted to possess her. What he intended to do from there, of course, was still up in the air. Maybe he would actually marry her. He could do a lot worse... he could get stuck with some vapid, insipid society maiden. Things with Natasha would never be boring.
But none of that mattered at the moment. He'd figure out the end game later. First he had to get her to agree to play.
"I could force your hand, you know. I could go to your mother and announce my intentions to court you, and then if you turned me down, you'd have your mother's full wrath to deal with. Wouldn't you rather have a choice in the matter? Be an active participant and have some measure of control in how the game is played?"

He laid out his terms and she raised an eyebrow. Her back straight, legs crossed, arms defensive, she was anything but the flattered school girl anyone else would have been in that moment. Sipping her wine throughout his speech, she studied him. The curve of his mouth, the intensity in his eyes, the entire aura of him. It wasn't that she didn't like Justin, but she didn't really know him, yes they had grown up in the same circles, but it wasn't as if he knew her either. He was about to learn that he couldn't just bully his way into her life.
"You think you're smart Scotts? Well I have news for you, I'm not some vapid, insipid society maiden head over heels nipping at the chance to attach herself to your arm as some trophy piece. I make my own rules, and I do as I please. You want an active participant? Well then game on sweetheart." she mock toasted him and finished the glass of wine.
Rising from her seat she sauntered toward him and leaned down, she rested her hand at the back of his neck brushing his shoulders lightly, her lips brushed his ear briefly before she confessed, "Good luck...you're going to need it." with that she stepped away from him and let her fingertips drag lightly across his skin until breaking contact. She left him sitting there alone but paused at the door to take a glance back.
Something in that final glance sent a shiver down her spine. The game was truly just beginning.

"Good," Justin said bluntly. "I don't want a vapid society girl. If that was all I wanted, I could snap my fingers and have any one of them draped over my arm. No, I want the kind of trophy that's worth winning... the kind I have to work for. I do hope you're up to the challenge, my dear."
He then watched with great amusement as she stood up, huffing with righteous indignation. And then she leaned in and whispered to him, running the tips of her fingers against his skin. He was almost so distracted by the touch of her hand that he barely heard what she said.
"We shall see, my dear," he replied, managing to regain his composure as she stalked off. Merlin, the girl sure could make an exit.
