She laughed a bit and nodded.
"Yes, we have fortune cookies. I'll be right back."
She went into the back and grabbed two fortune cookies then checked on her dumplings. Seeing that they were finished, she tossed them onto a plate along with the cookies and walked back out to where he was sitting. She sat down across from him and placed the cookies in the middle of the table.
"You know they have no power of divination at all, right?"
She smiled again as she picked up her chop sticks and began to eat.

Dean laughed lightly. "Yeah, I know that," he said. "I had one that told me I would inherit a great fortune. Since that hasn't happened, I kinda figured they weren't real. Just for fun, right? I never much believed in Divination, anyway."
She was cute when she smiled, he noticed as he continued to eat. He also noticed that she was eating with funny little sticks and not with a fork, like he was. He watched her a minute, how easily she picked up her food with the sticks and raised it to her lips. Then his gaze lingered for a minute on her lips, until she finally lowered them down again to pick up another dumpling. He was so fascinated that he forgot to eat his own food.
"Hey, what are those? Those stick things?"

Kayri looked at him confused at first, then looked down at the chopsticks. A smile crossed her lips as she remember that not everyone was familiar with such utensils. She looks back up at him holding them up.
"These are Chopsticks, or, in China, kuaizi. In Asia, it is the main form of eating."
She reached into her apron and pulled out an extra pair. they were disposable, but still stylized and nice looking with little character designs on the end. She moved her chair so she was sitting next to him and handed them to him.
"Here. This is how you hold them."
She took his hand and began to manipulate his fingers. A shiver went down her spine as she touched him. She still had an uneasy feeling about him. Something about him was not normal. But she put it out of her mind for now. She just focused on placing his fingers on the correct places of the chop sticks.
"Alright, good. Now to move them, you have to squeeze these fingers together."

Dean felt a spark run through him when she put her hands on his, but he wasn't paying attention to his hands. His eyes were focused on her, and he didn't have the strength to look away.
She'd make a great werewolf, he thought to himself. And that was when he made the decision. Somehow, he was going to turn her. He'd just have to watch her for a while.... learn her movements and patterns...
Finally, he forced himself to look away from her and back at the odd little sticks in his hands. With an effort, he followed the movements of her hands, and was able, for just a moment, to pick up a piece of chicken with the chopsticks. But before he could lift it to his mouth, he dropped it back onto his plate.
"How come they don't just use forks?"

Kayri shivered a little. it wasn't cold in the room, but she shivered none the less. Her eyes trailed up to the clock then back down to him.
"Well, it's just how the Asian cultures work. We didn't have forks. We have chopsticks. It's just a cultural difference. We also did not have chairs."
She glanced at the clock again.
"Well, it is starting to get late and, with everything that has been happening around Hogsmeade, I should probably get home before it's too late."

"I could walk you home," Dean found himself saying. The words sort of slipped out of his mouth, unplanned. But it worked. Not only did it sound chivalrous and gentlemanly (neither of which he actually was), but it would allow him to see where she lived, and to learn a little more about her.
Apparently he was much smarter when he didn't stop to think before he spoke. It was an interesting revelation to him, and he made a mental note to trust his instincts a little more. Pearl had told him that they would become sharper as he got used to his new form, but he hadn't believed her until this very moment.

Kayri raised an eye brow at him, giving him a curious look. Her better judgement screamed at her to decline. But, it was only a few blocks to her apartment building and it wasn't like he would know which apartment she lived in. So she nodded.
"Alright. I live just down the street, so it's not far."
She pulled out her wand and waved it in the air. Any uneaten food went into a to go container and the dishes went flying into the back room into the self cleaning sink. She did a quick check through the rest of the store to make sure everything was cleaned up and turned off before grabbing her jacket and turning back to Dean.
"Ready?"

Dean watched her quietly, thinking over his next move. She wasn't a foolish girl; she was smart and cautious. She was the type who would stay in well-lit areas to walk home and keep aware of those around her. So it would be a challenge. Good. It would make it more satisfying when he turned her... and more impressive to Greyback. He was always eager to prove himself.
"Yeah, I'm ready," he replied. He was tempted to offer his arm to her, but he had a feeling she would say no. They had only just met, and it seemed a bit presumptuous. So he simply walked next to her as they left the restaurant, then waited for her to lock the doors.
When that was done, and they were on their way to her apartment, he attempted to make conversation. "So, I'm guessing you're not originally from around here. Where are you from?"

They walked out the door and she locked it before continuing to walk. A quick shiver ran down her spine from the change in temperature and she pulled on her coat as they were walking slowly down the street. She had to admit, she was enjoying his company.
"I was born in Romania and spent much time there with my grandmother. But I have traveled through most of Europe and parts of south Asia. My family is a part of a grand Circus or Carnival, which ever you call it. Some call us Gypsies. But I left them a short while back." She shrugged and smiled.
As they were walking, her hand bumped his. She looked down then back up at him.
"Oh, sorry."
A slight blush came to her cheeks as she turned forward again and kept walking.

Dean found this very intriguing. He wished his life could have been more like that. He had been born into a fairly ordinary pureblood family, and when his parents died, he went to live with his aunt, who had been even more boring. And even now that he was a werewolf, he had somehow wound up in a pack that was more like a hippie commune. It was why he was so eager to prove himself worthy to Greyback... because he needed to get out of this humdrum life. He craved freedom, and in his mind, Kayri had grown up with that kind of freedom.
"Why would you leave that and come here?" he asked.

"Silly reason really. There was a man that I was dating. I left the carnival because of a man. Stupid mistake really. He left me after a while for someone else. By then, my family and the caravan had already moved on. It is very difficult to track down a band of Gypsies. So I have been here ever since. Mostly waiting to see if they would return."
She sighed, thinking back on that time. It really did upset her that she had left her family for that man. But there was nothing she could do about it at that point.

Dean couldn't really relate. He supposed it was a fairly common thing for women, but it wasn't something Dean could ever really understand. He was a guy, and in his young life, he had not yet met anyone that would inspire him to make such a sacrifice.
Furthermore, he had nothing in his life that would have been difficult to give up in the first place. He had no family, no real connections of any kind. He was with Zander's pack, but he didn't really like it there, and didn't feel like he belonged. He felt like he fit in better with Greyback, but that wasn't really going to give him those warm, fuzzy feelings of home. He'd lost that when he was a child, and he didn't think he'd ever get it back.
"Sorry to hear that," he said, his voice faltering slightly. "Maybe they'll come back someday."

"Maybe. But I doubt it will be for a while. They move fast and don't stay places long, but they still go to many places. I had heard of them being up in Scotland, but they had already moved on by the time I got there."
She shrugs again and looks up.
"Well, this is my apartment. Thank you for walking me home. It can get a bit nerve wracking walking home this late."
She smiles and then begins to unlock her door.

Dean silently weighed his options. He had hoped that she would automatically invite him in, but that didn't seem to be happening. He could suggest something to that effect or make some excuse about wanting a glass of water or needing to use the loo. But somehow it seemed to be pushing it if she hadn't invited him in already. But he couldn't leave it hanging with the thought of never seeing her again. Sure, he knew where she worked, but he didn't want to seem like a stalker.
Even if that was exactly what he was planning to do.
"It's no problem, really," he said, his tone light. "It can be dangerous out there these days. You never know who you might run into."
She had no idea just how true that really was. And he wasn't about to clue her in. For now, he just seemed like a nice guy who had walked her home.
"You know, I really did enjoy my dinner tonight," he said cautiously. "I think I'll probably be coming back... Maybe I'll see you there?"

She smiled. The thought of actually having someone to run into was a welcome thought. She was rather lonely and he was a very nice guy, it seemed. She nodded.
"Alright. Hopefully I will see you around again."
She opens the door and steps inside before turning to him another time.
"Good Night, Dean."
With that, she stepped inside her complex and closed the door. A moment later, Dean could see one of the lights on the second floor come on and a figure that seemed shaped like hers being cast on the curtains.

He watched her go, his eyes following her movements. When she vanished from sight, he lingered, watching as the lights came on and her silhouette was projected on the curtains.
He should go. He shouldn't stand here watching her like some creepy peeping tom. Someone might see him. Still, he waited a few moments, watching her. A slow smile spread across his face. At last he knew what he wanted.
He heard two voices approaching, and, not wanting to be caught spying on her, he turned and walked away, trying to look as casual as possible.
(Should we start a new thread?)
