He had to admit, he was a little surprise that Sitara did speak up about singing. A smile spread across Alejandro's face. Even if she didn't realize it, this was a big step for her.
As Sylvia slid her card in front of him, Alejandro looked down to glance at it. "Sure, we can do a duet for you later." He was fairly excited that Sitara was willing to do something without him having to talk her into it. "I have a few songs that I've written, granted they're in Spanish. I could always translate them over to English just to make things easier." Not many of his songs were in English. Sometimes he thought the Spanish version sounded better, but he could always translate it.

Sylvia thought about that for a moment. "Yes... Spanish. I can work with that, although, I think when you're opening for the Wrackspurts, you should do mostly songs in English.... whether they're originals or covers doesn't matter. Maybe you could do two songs in Spanish. Would you mind coming into the studio tomorrow and playing me a few of your songs? You can play them for me in Spanish.... I just want to hear how they sound first."
In general, it was easier to sell English-speaking artists, but she personally liked a little diversity. Her French singer always did a few songs in French when she performed, and would always have at least 2 French songs on each album. Even Nigel occasionally did songs in Welsh, just because he could. But she had a feeling she'd have an easier time marketing a Spanish singer, especially if he wrote his own songs and was as cute as Alejandro.

Everything really did happen extremely fast. Maybe it was just one of those things Alejandro didn't think would actually happen, he just liked to dream about it. It still hadn't really hit him yet the actual truth of what was going on.
"Sure, I can come by the studio. Would you prefer the morning or afternoon?" Alejandro was generally an early riser, but he could sleep in if he knew for sure there was nothing that he needed to do. He would have to make sure to not forget his guitar and everything because he had a feeling that all of this might sink in either later tonight, or possibly the next day.
"I'll bring a folder of some of the songs I've already written when I come. There are a few that I haven't quite finished putting all the music together for."

Sitara couldn't quite believe she had volunteered to sing with Alejandro. It had just come out, and she hadn't been able to stop herself. Now she was committed, and she couldn't really back out. Alejandro was going to get his wish; she was going to get up on that stage with him tonight and sing.
It would just be a small gig, she told herself. She would just sing backup or the occasional duet with Alejandro while he was opening for the Wrackspurts. That was all. Not a big deal. Her father would never have to know about it.
But, the little voice in the back of her mind whispered, you know this is where it starts. One little rebellion leads to another, and another, and then it gets bigger and bigger like a snowball rolling down a hill.
But singing wasn't her dream, not really. She wanted to perform, yes, but she really wanted to act. Maybe she'd be safe if she just stuck with singing and didn't get involved in her true dream. Right?

Sylvia was also a morning person most of the time, except for when she'd been drinking. If this little dive hadn't turned up this unexpected gem of a performer, Sylvia might have spent the evening drinking and wound up on the stage herself. This, of course, would have been a bad thing, because while she was very good at spotting and marketing talent, she possessed none of her own. Nigel used to tease her about her singing voice being comparable to "nails on a blackboard."
When she drank, Sylvia often did stupid things. She'd married her ex-husband while drunk, and if that wasn't a cautionary reminder not to drink, nothing was. But she still did it on occasion, sometimes with disastrous consequences. But, luckily, she had found Alejandro tonight, and she had barely even touched her drink. She was too excited about the possibilities to kill brain cells with alcohol.
"Tomorrow morning is perfect. Bright and early. I'll make sure we have plenty of coffee."

"Perfect," he said with a smile. Alejandro knew that meant that he couldn't have too many drinks. Rarely did he get hangovers, but the few times he did it was mainly caused by the fact that he didn't get to sleep his drinking off. Tonight he wasn't going to let himself drink too much. Before he went to bed tonight, however, he would make sure he had everything together so he wouldn't have to run around in the morning and find everything.
"So, Sylvia," Alejandro said as he sat up a little straighter. "Since we're working together, are there things that I must know right off hand about you?"

Sitara was quiet during this conversation. She wasn't thinking of backing out, although she probably should have been. Her father would certainly not approve. But more than that, she was nervous for herself. It had always been easy to talk herself out of doing the things she really wanted to do by using her father as an excuse. But although she knew she could sing, she had no idea if she would be good enough for this woman. This was Alejandro's dream, and maybe she shouldn't attempt to tag along. Maybe she would only drag him down. She didn't want that... she was only doing this for him. Or at least, that's what she told herself...

Sylvia thought about that for a minute. Some agents were all business, all the time, and didn't connect personally with their clients. Maybe that was a safer way to do it, but she never could quite manage it. After all, she had started in this business by being the manager for her friends. Nigel really was her best friend, and there was nothing she wouldn't do for him. And he'd already proven the same was true for him... Sylvia really believed he had saved her life when he helped her get away from her ex-husband.
"I like to think of my clients as family," she told him. "The Wrackspurts, in particular... I was their first fan back at Hogwarts and I helped them get their first gigs and their record deal. They got me started in this business, and because of that, I try to treat each of my clients as individuals... as people that matter to me. And I will do whatever it takes to help you in your career. Besides the Wrackspurts, I have two other clients. I'm single and I don't have children, so I won't have any real distractions from the work. Is there anything else you want to know?"
