Roland looked up at Angelique. She definitely looked pretty stressed out, and he wondered what could be going on. They hadn't heard about any more attacks as of yet. But perhaps there had been threats. Or maybe something had happened that wasn't in the papers yet. Whatever it was, however, the look on Angelique's face gave Roland a feeling of dread. He silently gave her hand another squeeze.
"Now that all the paperwork is done from Blake's case, we really need to get back to Katie's murder case," he said. "It's just that it's been so long, I'm not even sure where to start up again. Do you want to meet at my desk, and we can talk about it after the meeting?"

Angelique sat at the front of the room, her body language very clearly indicating how unhappy she was. Right now, she felt utterly useless. Since being appointed as head auror, so many terrible things had happened. There was the murder of Katie Lawrence, the Hogsmeade attack, Roland's "death" and return, and now she had not just one, but possibly two separate serial killers on her hands. Yeah... she felt like she was doing a crappy job. They needed to start catching these people, punishing them to the fullest extent of the law and putting an end to death eaters in whatever ways possible. She had not come to this country to let some crazed power-hungry megalomaniac just take over and destroy the place. But right now, things were feeling very, very hopeless.
She barely heard the chatter going on around her, but instead was taking a constant mental roll call. As the last few stragglers made their way into the meeting room and settled down, Angelique finally got to her feet.
"OK, everyone," she began. "I know you're all wondering why I called you here today. I have several reasons for this... and they're both connected. Since you all know me well enough to know that I don't just beat around the bush about things, I'm just going to spill it out... there is a killer out there. A very violent killer. Last night, this person murdered a well-respected muggleborn woman... a former healer at St. Mungo's who was a champion of muggle rights. We have reason to believe that this killer is going to strike again.... and we don't know where or when. I'm going to handle the case myself, but I want the entire department to be on alert, and so I'm going to share what I know on the case so far."
(Although Rutger and Alana will eventually take over the case, at this point in time, Angelique is planning to handle it herself.)

Roland felt like the bottom had dropped out of his stomach. Even though he knew that the danger hadn't ended with Blake's death, it was still very shocking to him to realize that there were still others out there who wanted to do them harm. It terrified him. There was a part of him that immediately wanted to take Riley--and the rest of his family--and hide them away somewhere, so they could all be safe. He just knew that if anything happened to any of them, he wouldn't be able to bear it. But he also knew that he wouldn't be able to hide himself, not this time. He needed to fight with everything that he had, to try and make the world a safer place for his unborn child.
His grip on Riley's hand tightened, almost as if he was clinging to her for dear life.

Riley nodded. "I've actually kind of been keeping up on Katie's case. I have some things we should look at... just some new places to start."
She grew quiet as Angelique took commanding presence in the room again. She was a good leader- when she was about to speak, people listened. She had that quality about her that made people want to turn to her in a crisis. Riley imagined this was both a blessing and a curse.
But the woman's words were not good news in the least, and Riley sucked in a breath. It was terrible news, actually, and for a selfish moment, she couldn't understand why she and Roland were so willing to bring a child into a world like this.
She squeezed his hand back, questions burning that she wanted to ask, but held her tongue. She knew Angelique would get to most of them. Still, she turned her eyes to Roland.

Angelique allowed a few moments for this information to sink in for everyone. It was a lot to to take in, she knew... in fact Angelique herself was still having trouble dealing with it. Of course, they were all used to the idea that Death Eaters could come for them at any time. But this killer... This was different. The person doing this was sick and brutal, and Angelique had a very bad feeling that this was only the beginning.
"At this point, we don't know much about the killer," she continued reluctantly. "We do know that the killer--or killers-- may be aligned with the Death Eaters, because a Dark Mark was seen above the house. On the door was another symbol, branded into the wood. I have the Leviner brothers researching it now, but this is what it looks like..."
She then held up a large piece of parchment with the symbol drawn onto it, large enough that everyone in the room could see it.
"We suspect that the killer has struck before, just not in England. And we have reason to believe he or she will do it again. So I am going to need all aurors to be on alert. And be careful."
