Shocked couldn't even begin to describe just what she was currently feeling. This boy hadn't had a lot of friends? That surprised her because he really was nice and funny and sweet. It seemed unusual and she wasn't about to let it go unsolved.
"Why is that?" she demanded before saying quickly and in a softer voice, "Sorry, it just seems really horrible."

Because most parents don’t want their kids to be friends with a werewolf, he answered silently. And because most kids don’t like to be friends with freaks.
Those were the real answers, but he couldn’t very well tell her that. Even as sweet and understanding as she seemed to be, it was very unlikely that she wouldn’t, at the very least, be frightened if she knew the truth about him. He had gotten extraordinarily lucky with James and Sirius, that they accepted him so readily. Peter, he suspected, was still secretly freaked out by it, but he stood by him anyway.
Instead of telling her the whole truth, he gave the basic answer that he had originally told James and Sirius. “We moved around a lot when I was younger. We didn’t stay in many places for longer than a few months. And when we did get settled, it was in a pretty isolated area, and there really weren’t any kids close by.”
Of course, both of those things were true, but they had been necessary because of his condition. But she didn’t need to know that.

She mulled that over in her mind for a few minutes. That was horrible. Teagan had never been overly attached to her house but she still would not have liked moving all over the place. Being the way her father was, most often then not there were older people around. All she had was Bryna and Shannon so she could understand that.
"Are you an only child? I would hate not having my sister. She's my best friend. There aren't an awful lot of children around my house so I understand that. It would be horrible to move around a lot. I'm sorry," she said seriously.

That wasn't an easy question to answer. For most of his life, Remus had believed himself to be an only child. It was only a year ago that he found out he had an older sister, who had been separated from him when he was turned. And then she started dating Sirius and he started to get closer to the sister he hadn’t remembered having. And now, after Sirius had broken up with her, she had stopped speaking to Remus for not cutting Sirius out of his life. It was all very confusing for Remus, and he wasn’t sure how to handle all of it, let alone tell Teagan about it.
“Um… well, sort of,” he said. “I have an older sister, but she didn’t live with me while I was growing up. It’s kind of hard to explain… but we’re not really close.”

Her eyes widened even more, if that was possible. It always came as a surprise to her that other siblings didn't get along as well as her and Bryna did. Then again not everyone was her and her sister. A smile lighted on hr face as she thought of the younger girl.
"That's awful. I'm sorry for saying anything about it," she said gently.
She did rather like talking to the boy and she didn't want him to hate her. Somehow, she kept bringing up hard subjects for him and she felt really bad for it.

Remus just shrugged it off. The situation with Kris was a complicated one, and although it had initially caused him a great deal of frustration, he had reached a point where he just couldn't let himself stress over it anymore. He had tried to get to know Kris, and they had seemed like they were getting along well, but then she had to ask something of him that he couldn't give her. Not talking to Sirius would have meant not talking to James or Peter, either, which would have made the dormitory a very quiet and lonely place. And besides, they were the first real, true friends he'd ever had. It was unfair of her to ask him to give them up, just because she was mad at Sirius.
The way Remus saw it, if Kris wanted to have a relationship with him, it would be her choice to let this go. Yes, she had been hurt, and Remus felt badly about that. But he had warned her from the beginning that getting involved with Sirius was a bad idea, and she had done it anyway. As a friend, Sirius was fiercely loyal, but when it came to girls, his head was very quickly turned. Remus already suspected that he was going to be a real terror when he got older.
"Don't even worry about it. You didn't know... there's no reason to be sorry. But tell me about your sister. It sounds like you're both really close."
