Luckily for Jessica, it didn't take long for Edie to cry herself to sleep. This was a familiar state for her. It didn't take much to make her cry, and these heavy emotions tended to wear her out quickly. After about fifteen minutes, Edie fell asleep, her face still wet with tears. She even let out the occasional mournful whimper in her sleep, as if she was still crying and didn't know she was asleep.

Once she was asleep, Jess sank into the second chair with a sigh. Work was in 4 hours and it was going to be hell. There was no point in sleeping now, and as he mother whimpered in her sleep, Jess couldn't help but resent herself for letting Edie come in and take over with her misery again. Jess knew it would be at least another month of living with her mother, watching her moan and cry in self pity until the next man came along and did what he felt like, building up until he continued the cycle and broke her heart again.
Finally, Jess stood up and made her way to the kitchen, fixing herself a VERY early breakfast. She'd get to the restaurant first and do inventory, she was up anyway.
