Talon had plenty of time to blow off some steam from the other night at dinner. Who could blame him for getting jealous of one of June's friends? The guy seemed a little off to Talon, so he thought that his actions were justified. Of course it wasn't really justified. He should have trusted June, but he didn't like the fact that she had a lot of guy friends. Talon wouldn't tell her right off the bat that she had to drop her guy friends. He knew that she would probably leave him, but then again he wasn't really sure if she would. Even after their arguments and everything, she would always come back to him and they would make up, making everything alright again. This fact made Talon smirk.
While she was off at work, Talon made the trip to the florist and picked out flowers, like Trevor had suggested. He bought several dozens of roses as well as other flowers he thought that June might like. He set their house up while she was gone. It was going to be a surprise for her back home. Talon didn't apologize a lot, but he didn't want June mad at him, and he could be very sweet and romantic whenever he wanted to be. He even found a few candles and set them up on the table, then dimmed the lights. He made sure that everything was perfect, hoping that she would like it. Part of him was thinking that she better like it, but he would maintain his sweet composure. It would get her back.
Talon was even found a record of soft classical music and started it. As for dinner, he even put the extra effort in and used magic to cook. If he used magic, he could pull off a decent meal when he really tried.
Now with the few things in the kitchen finishing up, Talon took a seat in the living room, where he could see June enter the door and waited patiently for her to come home from work. He only hoped that she would come home from work....

June didn't go home the night before. Talon hadn't asked her to stay, or sent an owl or anything, she she stayed at Virginia's, and went straight to work the next day. To make herself feel better about at least one of the guys at dinner, she spent her lunch with Brady. To be honest, she was angry that Talon hadn't come to the Ministry at all that day. It was her birthday, afterall, and she wondered if he even remembered.
But she spent enough time away, and sighed, a brand new coffee pot (courtesy of Brady) in hand as she made her way to their home. She hoped it was still their home, actually, and she hoped Talon wasn't still angry with her.
She stood outside their door for a minute, feeling like she knew she would start crying if Talon was still giving her the cold shoulder. TTaking a deep breath, she put her key in the lock and opened the door.
What greeted her was the reason she stayed with Talon. See, this was the side of him that her friends and her family didn't see, the side she was in love with. She just wished she got to see it more.
After looking around, her eyes finally fell on Talon, and her shoulders dropped a little, unaware that she was as good as putty in his hands. "I'm so sorry, Talon."

June would have never let him forget if he forgot her birthday. He had also made a stop before he went to the florist. The jewelery store was his first stop. No, his stop wasn't for a ring. There was no way that Talon was ready to actually get married. Why get married when June would stick around anyway? He bought her a necklaces, earrings, and a matching bracelet. Talon figured that those things would also satisfy her. He had laid the bracelet box in her place at the table, and he had the other two things sitting on the table beside him.
Talon didn't even pay attention to the coffee maker that June carried in her arms when she entered through the door. He could look over it as long as she didn't tell him who gave it to her. As she looked around, he put on a light smile and stood up, walking over to her. He put a hand on her cheek. "It's alright sweetheart," he said leaning closer to her and pressing a kiss to her lips. After he pulled away, he pushed hair behind her ear. "Happy Birthday."

It never really occured to her that Talon never apologized. When she was angry and fighting with him, she would point it out, but by the time they made up, she usually forgot about it. Or at least, she let him think she did. Deep down, it bothered her immensely. If she were to take a step back and really look at the relationship, there were a lot of things that bothered her.
And then he did things like this.
She leaned her head into his touch, setting her things down on the table nearby and put her arms around him. "Thank you. Are we done fighting? Please?"

"Of course we're done fighting." He smiled and put his hand on her cheek. Talon leaned in and kissed her again. He knew that in a little while, they would fight again but for right now, he was going to make up for it. He had to. He had a hold on her and he wasn't going to let her go. Besides, he knew that June looked good on his arm and he couldn't lose that.
He smiled after he pulled away from her. "I have something for you." Talon slowly let go of her and returned beside the table he was sitting at, getting the necklace and earring boxes. "I thought that you would enjoy these for your birthday."

June closed her eyes as their lips met again, and she sighed softly. Fighting with Talon took so much energy out of her anymore, and hated it. They fought so often that she almost wondered when she'd run out of energy to even fight him.
"Good, because I missed you," she said, not letting him pull away just yet.
She followed him towards the table when he did pull away. "You know, presents are always a good way to make up after a fight," she teased him lightly. It was an unsettling feeling to realize that she almost didn't care. When had she become blase about the relationship? She loved him deeply... maybe she was just tired. That had to be it.
"Which one can I open first?"

Oh yes, she would definitely keep coming back. Talon was aware that she didn’t come back at all last night. He could fuss at her about that but he was going to keep his mouth shut for right now. He felt sure that that fact was going to come up in their next argument whenever that might be.
Talon turned to look at June over his shoulder and smiled, handing her the necklace box first. Maybe it was a little twisted that the earrings were in a box that was extremely similar to a ring box. Talon actually realized that it was going to be in that type of box and he did sort of want to see the look on June’s face if she did think it was a ring. Yes, it was twisted, but in some way it gave Talon a little satisfaction.
He waited until she opened the necklace box to give her the earrings.

"Talon, it's stunning," June said, opening the necklace box and holding the jewelry in her hand. She looked up to see him watching her, and she smiled, quite clearly having forgiven him for everything.
Yes, she noticed the second box that he was holding, and to say that her heart jumped was putting it lightly, but she watched him, trying not to get too excited. She was watching his actions, hoping she would be able to tell if that box contained what she really hoped for. He wasn't really giving anything away though, so she wasn't sure. Could he finally be ready to ask her to marry him?
She'd thought this before, of course, and found herself disappointed before. But every time, she couldn't help but just hope...

Okay, it was twisted that Talon was getting June's hopes up. He couldn't help it. He liked to see the brightness in her eyes then see the light dim because of him. He was pulling her on a string and he could manipulate her however he wanted.
Talon didn't want to settle down, it was that simple. Why should he have to go through the dealings with getting a wedding together? Why should he even get married if June was going to always be there? She didn't have anywhere else to go and Talon highly doubted that she would just up and leave him. June supposedly loved him. He wasn't sure if he knew what 'love' really was but he could toss the word around whenever she wanted to hear it. It didn't always mean that he really meant it.
"I hope you like it," he said with a smile that was extremely well practiced. Talon offered the box to her for her to really inspect it.

June took the box, telling herself not to get her hopes up, to not let her heart flutter like it was doing. It was never a ring, and she knew that. But when special occasions rolled around, like New Years, Valentine's Day, her birthday... she couldn't help but hope.
She held the box in the palm of her hand for a moment before she opened it, not letting Talon see the look of anticipation in her eyes.
And... earrings. That matched what he'd already given her. She looked up and gave him a bright smile, because she couldn't really be disappointed in something like this. He spoiled her, and she was grateful. Even if it wasn't what she really wanted.
She moved towards him and put one arm around him, giving him a kiss. "They're beautiful, of course. Thank you, Talon."
Why didn't she feel better about it? "You're a sweetheart." She started to take her own earrings out to put the new ones in. "Well, how do they look?"

And there it was, the moment Talon had been waiting for. Even though June tried to hide her disappointment, Talon could still see it. He had been around her long enough to really see what was going on. He fought the smile on the inside from showing outside.
He could even hear her disappointment in her voice. June's kiss was even half-hearted. Things couldn't be more perfect for the moment. Feeling trimuphant inside, Talon let a smile that seemed pleased, appear on his face.
"I thought that you would like them," he said with that smile of his. If only she really knew what was going on in his head. He nearly laughed when she called him a sweetheart.
"They look fantastic, even better on you than in the box." Those words really meant nothing but she wasn't going to find out. He only said them because it would be something she wanted to hear. Putting an arm around her waist, Talon brought her closer to him and he kissed her.
"I even have dinner ready for you."

The house was decorated with a thousand flowers, she was now wearing very beautiful jewelry, and Talon made her dinner.
So why did she feel like crying? This was ridiculous. They weren't arguing anymore, and she did sincerely love him. So he didn't get her an engagement ring, so what? He was always there for her, and it was really the same thing anyway, right? Who needed a wedding to prove anything?
"Aww... what did you make?" she asked, leaning into him. Then, shaking her head, she said, "You know what? After dinner, let's go do something crazy. Unplanned."

If June started crying, Talon wouldn't really know how to handle it. He couldn't just give a grin if she started smiling. He wasn't going to just let her know something like that would make him smile. Luckily, however, he didn't have to worry about her tears tonight.
"I made your favorite," he said. Yes, he had her right were he wanted her. Everything was going perfectly, until she wanted to do something completely unplanned. Talon liked things that had some kind of plan to them. Of course, there were certain things that he didn't mind that weren't planned out, but he was one that didn't like surprises.
"We'll go do it, since it is your birthday." Talon would go along with it but that didn't mean he was going to like it. Although, he would put on a face that said he would like it because after all, he was bringing June back to him.

Since it's your birthday.
June let the smile slip from her lips, and she turned away from him to head into the kitchen. He was putting up with it because it was her birthday, not because he wanted to do it, too, or that he wanted to do it because it would make her happy... but because it was her birthday and he was obligated.
She was blowing things out of proportion, and she knew it. She didn't know why she was so moody all of a sudden. She'd had a wonderful day with Brady, and this, everything he'd done, should have made her feel like a queen.
"You know what? Forget it. We'll stay in. This is all perfect, anyway."

June's smile fading did not go unnoticed. Talon knew that he could bring that up but he didn't want to break out into another argument because he knew that would push her further away. He couldn't have her pull away from him.
He followed her into the kitchen. Talon didn't understand what he did. He was doing everything because it was her birthday. It was supposed to be a day were he was supposed to shower her with different things. Of course, he didn't understand that her smile faded because he was doing it just because it was her birthday.
June's next words caught Talon off guard and he was not a man that like to be caught off guard. On impluse he reached out and took June's arm. "What do you mean by that," were the next words coming from his mouth. "I told you we'd go out, and we'll go out. It's something you want to do and since it's your birthday, we'll go do it." Talon was doing his best to keep a calm like appearance on his face. A small thought in the back of his mind was telling him that it might end up into another argument, but he wasn't listening.

June, in turn, was caught off guard when he took her arm and pulled her back to him. That was always her first clue that he was angry.
Why was he angry with her?
"Talon... hey, relax. I don;t even know what I would want to go do, and this is nice. I really just want to spend my birthday with you. Without fighting, okay? Please, can we not turn this into an argument?" She gently pulled her arm from his grip and held his eyes, her eyebrows up while she waited for him to soften.

The look on June's face made him loosen his hold on her arm. Just because he didn't want to argue, after all he just got her back, Talon started to calm down. "No arguing," he said in a calmer voice. He wouldn't apologize for what happened because even if he said that he was sorry, there wouldn't really have been any sort of sincerety in his voice.
"I hope you like the dinner I made." It was strange how quick Talon's attitude could change. His arm was back down at his side. He motioned to the table for her to sit. "And I hope you're hungry."

June sighed. She wished they weren't so close to an argument right then. Why did she always feel lately like she couldn't talk to him without them yelling at each other?
"I'll love it," June replied softly, squeezing his hand before he let go and motioned her to the table. She sat, but the truth was, she wasn't hungry at all. She lost her appetite, but she was thankful that he made her dinner.
Then- because June didn't know when to keep her mouth shut- she sighed again and blurted out, "Talon... we've been together for ages. Are you ever going to ask me to marry you?"
She regretted asking the question instantly, just after getting him to agree to no arguing, and she waited for the fight to start, as she knew it would.

Things were going good, for about two minutes. Hearing June's question made Brady turn to her. Were they going to get married? No, Talon wasn't ready to make a huge commitment like that. In fact, he didn't think that he was ever going to be ready to make a huge commitment like that. He had too much to do and after all, he wasn't really the marrying type.
"Am I ever going to ask you to marry me," he repeated. Talon looked at her with his eyebrows raised. Things were supposed to be quite now, no agruments; however, he was finding that it was hard not to. "June, we've said something about this before." He was doing his best to keep his anger under control but he was slipping again. "I'll ask whenever I want to. We're doing just fine just the way we are right now."

"Really? Are we?" June couldn't stop herself, and she knew where this was going. Merlin, what was wrong with her that she couldn't just be happy with what he did for her? The dinner, the flowers and candle light, the gifts... why did she have to have more? She could already feel the apology forming on her lips, but she couldn't bring herself to say it. Not just yet.
"We have to lie to get through the day- things are not going okay the way we are," She told him, leaning forward on the table a bit. "Talon, I love you, and I... I just don't know where we're going and it's frustrating."
