He watched as the ladybug spread its wings and flew away. Even though it didn't fly that far to their eyes, it probably was a decent distance for the lady bug. It had something nice to land on when it landed again. Maybe that's how they were. Maybe they were flying right then, or maybe they were getting ready to. Either way, Elliot hoped that they could have something nice to land on.
Elliot could see Ingrid out of the corner of his eye while he was propped up on his arms as he laid on the grass. He looked back to her and knew that his face turned a brighter shade of red once he felt her hand touch his face. The heat rose suddenly and a part of him wondered if she could feel the heat from his blush in her hand.
A questioning look crossed his face as he looked back at her. "You know," he said attempting to get his mind away from the fact that he was indeed blushing, "I appreciate everything you've shown me so far today. And, I think that it has been a lot of fun to tell you the truth."

Ingrid honestly couldn't remember the last time she'd had so much fun. Especially not with another person. She had done things by herself that were fun, like rolling down the hill or playing with the animals. Once she had spent nearly an hour watching two rabbits play leapfrog with each other. But spending the day with another person, just laughing fun... that was something new for her. And she kind of liked it. This day had been good for both of them.
She blushed at his words and smiled. She hoped that the could have many other days like this together.
Turning around, she lay flat on her back with her hands behind her head and looked up at the sky. It was the perfect shade of blue, with a number of fluffy white clouds floating along. When she had been a little girl, she had played a game with her father, where he would tell her the shapes he saw in the clouds and then make up a story about them. She almost wished she could tell Elliot about this, but she settled for just watching quietly.

As she turned over, so did Elliot. He put his hands behind his head as he relaxed. He couldn't remember a time when he did feel so relaxed and peaceful. Sure, he went out with Cameron but the things that they did were different from this. Cameron had helped Elliot be more himself and start to let go.
For a moment, Elliot closed his eyes. He wondered if Savannah would enjoy coming out and doing something like this. Maybe he could get her to go out one day, just maybe.
Opening his eyes again, he watched the clouds pass by. It was quiet, but it was peacefully quiet. "There's a dog and a rabbit," he said after a few minutes passed as his eyes followed the clouds.

Although she tried to eat the cake slowly, it was gone before she had even realized it. "Aren’t you always hungry?" she said teasingly, then looked down at her empty plate, realizing that she had selfishly kept it all to herself. "I’m sorry… I should have offered you some. It was rude—" She stopped abruptly. Old habits were so hard to break, and she was still a long way from being able to give up her old ways. Even if she was tired of being prim and proper, it was what she was used to. It was safe. And it would take a little more than chocolate cake to get her to completely throw off the chains that were binding her. But at least they were loosening. "Thanks again. Not just for the cake… I mean, for coming after me today. You really helped." Cameron shrugged, dismissing her "rude" comment. "Sometimes more than others," he told her. "But as a general rule, yes, I'm always hungry." He was uncomfortable with her gratitude. In his eyes, he wasn't doing anything worth being thanked for. He played her a song or two, got her a piece of cake. So he shrugged. "No big," he said. "It was my pleasure." What else was he supposed to say? Please don't tell Elliot about all of this? Loosen up? Be ruder? He had nothing. "Do you have any other requests?"

If he thought that she would tell Elliot about any of this, he didn't need to worry. Something about this moment, this time, felt very private. Almost intimate, but she wouldn't have used that word. But whatever word she used to describe it, the point was that there was something special about this and she wouldn't have shared it for the world. And she knew instinctively, without asking, that he felt the same way.
She didn't want this--whatever it was--to end, but she knew that eventually, it would have to. They'd go back to reality, and they'd have to pretend that nothing had changed. And yet, as she saw it, everything had changed. Or rather, the wheels of change had begun to spin, and she was pretty sure that the only way to go from here was forward, where ever that led.
"Just play anything," she said softly. "One more song, anything you like. I don't care."
She said it partially as a way of keeping him here. But she also wanted to watch him play; just sit and watch. She hadn't been able to watch him play earlier, because first she was singing, and then she was playing the piano.

She felt like they were completely in synch; that she had only to think something and he would begin talking about that very thing. She looked up at the clouds and she did see the shapes he described. She wondered if it was a coincidence that she always saw animas in the clouds, or if it was a clue to how her mind worked. Maybe Elliot was the same. Turning her head to look at Elliot, she nodded, letting him know that she could see the shapes that he saw. Then she waved her hand lightly, encouraging him to continue.

Cameron nodded, unsure what to play. Quite a lot of the time, he found that other songs, music that other people had written, just never fit the situation. When she wanted to hear a Beatles song, he would play it. But when it was up to him... he just played from the heart.
And while he was never going to tell her he could do it, he began just playing. He didn't have the notes in mind, or even a tone that he wanted to convey. The music just flowed. In his head, it was a stream of blues and greens, happier yet tranquil sounds and colors. He wanted to her to remember her time with him as a calm time.
After a moment, he started to talk to her over the sounds of the piano. "My mum always jokes that I'm married to the piano," he told her. "I think, if that's the case, then the guitar is my promiscuous mistress. I always thought Hogwarts should have a music class. But I guess it isn't very magical, is it?"

Ingrid's encouragement was everything he needed. Who knew that he could find a great friend in such a short time. Whatever being was in control of the world had a funny way of making things work out.
Elliot's eyes went back up to the sky and pointed out other animals such as a bird, butterfly, there was even a few clouds that looked like shoes. He was content with feeling the way he was at the moment. He felt as if nothing could touch him, like he was free of the problems he was facing. Maybe he would start coming down here more often. He felt sure that Ingrid wouldn't mind if he did.
"There's one that looks like a little kid with a dog," he said feeling his imagination start to run faster.

Cloud watching was one of the most relaxing things in the world, as far as Ingrid was concerned. Just lying in the cool grass, feeling the breeze as it tickled her skin, the warmth from the sun bathing down on her while the large, fluffy clouds drifted overhead. She used to imagine what it would be like to touch a cloud. She imagined it would be like marshmallows--soft and puffy.
She listened as Elliot described each shape to her, and, without even realizing it, she reached out with one hand and took his hand in hers.

Elliot continued to stare at the clouds and pointed out the ones that looked like something. He felt Ingrid's hand slip into his. His cheeks brightened, just like they usually did if she took his hand. It didn't matter if they were friends, his cheeks would always brighten.
He stopped pointing clouds out for a short while because his mind started to drift elsewhere. It didn't drift to his current problems going on, but to how big his hand actually was compared to Ingrid's. Elliot's head was turned so that he could see their hands together and he couldn't help the small smile that appeared on his lips. Who would have thought that he would have made a friend that he felt like he knew forever, even though it hadn't even been two days?
His gaze moved back up to the sky. "We should do something like this again maybe tomorrow after we finish classes if there is not too much homework."

Ingrid turned her head to look at him as he spoke. The idea of spending more time with him gave her a happy little flutter in her stomach. She would have been perfectly happy to spend all her time with him. Not only did she like helping him to smile more and have fun, but she also liked that she had someone she could lean on when things got to be too much for her. And she didn't even have to talk; he just seemed to understand her. After spending so long closed up inside, it was nice to have someone finally understand her.
She gave his hand a light squeeze as she nodded.

His family had never been a touchy feely type of family. They didn't really hug or really say 'I love you' or anything like that. Their mother gave them hugs from time to time, but it wasn't really all that often, well she didn't often give Elliot hugs. He always thought that he wasn't going to like the idea of touching but he found himself not caring. Elliot knew that it was Ingrid's main way of communicating, however, he liked it. Maybe it was just the idea of it, or maybe a small piece had been filled that was missing.
"We could go dancing tomorrow," he said as the idea popped into his head. "I can come up with something, and tomorrow you even have a chance to lead. I couldn't tell you what type of dance because I don't really know anything about them. We can just make things up as we go." Elliot mainly wanted to see Ingrid laughing again and maybe, just maybe, he could get another hint of how her laughter really sounded.

Ingrid's cheeks were stained pink now, and she smiled at him. He wanted to see her again, and to dance with her. The very thought of it made her feel like there were butterflies in her stomach. She liked being in his arms, and she liked the feeling that they were the only two people in the world.
She nodded. She was pretty sure she would always say yes to spending time with him. He made her feel special, and not like the weird girl who didn't talk.

"We'll go after dinner tomorrow, up to the seventh floor, that way we'll have actual music." Elliot smiled while the grass touched his cheek. Had he actually known Ingrid before the Yule Ball, he would have taken her but since he didn't and he didn't even bother asking anyone, Elliot skipped it and did a few early assignments and went to bed early.
"And I'll come sit with you in class, that is of course if you don't mind, and if you promise not to cause too much trouble. I know you love to cause a lot of trouble," he teased.

She felt both relaxed and yet, every sense seemed to be heightened. She could hear the music so clearly that it was almost like she could feel it, like air surrounding her and lifting her up. Music made her feel free, but when Cameron played, it was somehow more powerful. She wanted to lose herself in it, just cast everything else aside and be born again. "I don't know," she said in a dreamy voice, still not opening her eyes. "I think music is much more magical than any spell or potion."

Ingrid giggled, though still without making a sound. Both ideas sounded good to her, and she nodded. The she lay back down, so that her long red hair was spread out in the grass. A ray of sun fell on her, and the light caught her hair, making it look like she was surrounded by flames.
When she had been very little, she hated her red hair and freckles. She always seemed to stand out in every situation. Even when she started school, it was difficult because her vivid hair made it difficult to hide. But it was almost the only thing she had left of her father, so she loved it.
Turning her head to look at him again, she smiled. It didn't really matter if they didn't talk at all... she just liked being here with him.

"See," he said smiling. "That giggle just proves you're nothing but a trouble maker. Already thinking up thoughts." Elliot was just teasing her. He laughed as she started to lay back down. Elliot's laughter faded, and as Ingrid's attention was elsewhere, he took the time just to take in her appearance. He liked the way her hair looked, even out of the sunlight.
Once Ingrid looked back in his direction, Elliot was still observing her appearance, and for a moment his cheeks burned. He returned her smile. Like Ingrid, he didn't mind if they didn't talk at all.
Elliot put on hand behind his head again while holding her hand with his other hand. He was perfectly content just like this.

They lay that way for quite some time, holding hands and not talking as they just enjoyed the fresh air, warm sunlight, and cool grass. They were so still that it seemed like they could actually see the movement of the earth as it slowly turned on its axis. The sun continued its journey across the sky, until it began to dip down closer to the horizon, where it melted into a fiery sea of reds and oranges. It was breathtaking and beautiful, and Ingrid was glad she got to share it with Elliot.
Slowly she sat up, smiling a dreamy smile as she gazed at the sunset, then looked back at Elliot. The warm, rich colors of the sky reminded her of how she felt when she was with him. It was magical.

He enjoyed the quietness and the fresh air compared to his common room. Out here he was free, and part of him didn't want to go back inside because then he was confined again. Elliot let his mind wonder, not stopping and thinking hard about one particular subject.
The sunset caught his eye, and he looked toward it. Ingrid's movement got his attention and he looked toward her. Seeing that she looked back at him, he smile at her and slowly sat up. He looked to the sunset, unaware of her thoughts. "It's amazing how each sunset is different, and one sunset is never like another, however they are all peaceful."

Her eyes were closed, and she wouldn't see the look on his face while he tried to read her. "Maybe so," he murmured. Magical enough to bring a proper lady and a boy with rough edges together, at least for a little while. While she wanted him to play, Cameron was deeply curious to ask her about herself. But every question he had was hard and personal, and he knew that. She wouldn't want to answer them, and he would drive her away. Who knew when they would find another time to abandon their pretenses and just listen together? "Do you like violins, Savannah?"
