It had been slow going at first for Ingrid. As a first year student who didn't speak, she had to have special tutoring sessions in all of her classes to teach her how to do the spells without saying the incantations. Even now she still have to have special sessions with her professors at times, although they were becoming more and more infrequent.
She gave a shy smile to Bek, silently thanking her for the compliment and the help, then turned and led the way back to the cages. When she reached the bird's cage, she stopped and turned to Bek again, nodding her head toward the seeds, then back at the cage, inviting the girl to feed the bird.

Bek nodded a 'you're welcome' back at Ingrid as they made their way back to the bird cage. She followed Ingrid's silent advice and scopped up some of the seeds, bringing it to the cage and placing it so that the little bird could eat. "There you go sweetie, eat up."
The sun was getting lower, but it was still bright and Bek sat on the edge of the little stone wall that surounded Hagrid's Hut, letting the warmth that would soon fade hit her.

Ingrid checked over the cages, to make sure the animals were comfortable and the cages were safely latched. All seemed well, and she poked her finger into each cage to give her rescued friends a little pat before she turned away and went to sit near Bek.
The truth was, this was the only spot in the school where she felt really comfortable. Here with the animals and the fresh air and Hagrid's presence nearby. Maybe it would seem odd for silent little Ingrid to be friends with a big, boisterous person like Hagrid, but they both had a great love of animals, and that seemed to bond the two of them in a strange, unspoken friendship. This was also the reason that she and Bek had become friends; that, and the fact that Bek didn't let the other Gryffindors make fun of Ingrid when she was around.
