"I know," she said again, wiping at her tears while he held her close. "It's not even that. I just.. why would he even bother trying to find me? Roland, Geoffrey never even met him. He was never around for the last few years of school or after, and I liked it that way. I don't want him here. I don't want him knowing where I live. I don't want him to know that I'm pregnant."
She took a deep breath. He wasn't worth stressing about. "I promised myself I would stress less when you came back. Our poor baby's been through a lot."

"Well, I'm here, love. I doubt he'd be stupid enough to bother you now, knowing that I'm here. He'd rather manipulate you, because he thinks you're weaker than he is. Of course, he's wrong, but that doesn't matter. I'm sure he won't be back now. The three of us made it pretty clear he's not welcome."
Roland guided her over to the sofa and helped her to sit down. "Let's not think about him anymore, OK? Just relax. This is our first night alone since I came back. We shouldn't let him ruin that."

Riley followed him to the couch, feeling bad about turning Brian away, and feeling bad that Roland had to witness it, "I'm sorry you had to deal with that," she said lightly. "I had no idea he would ever be an issue."
His next words made her laugh, though, and maybe he wasn't even implying that he wanted sex, but that was how she took it. It even sounded like a good idea to her, so she wasn't judging.
She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, not bothering to explain her laughter. "And you don't want any time to yourself?" She asked. His apartment was right next door, empty. And she wanted him around desperately... even now that he was back, she felt like she could still lose him at any time. But if he needed some time alone, she would understand.

He couldn't deny that sex was on his mind, but it wasn't all he wanted. He just wanted her, to hold her and be with her without any outside interruptions. He'd gotten far too used to having that time with her at the safe house, and he didn't want that to change. Of course he knew that there would be some times when they wouldn't be able to be totally alone, but he certainly didn't want an unwelcome visit from her step brother to ruin their time.
"No, definitely not," he said. "I had far too much time alone when I was at the safe house. If you want to know the truth, I was actually pretty lonely. Even with Phoenix there. I just missed you too much."

Riley smiled. "I missed you too when I was gone. I hated when I had to be away, and it was silly, because you were in the safe house, but I worried about you so much."
She leaned into him as they sat on the couch. "You're really good at dealing with me, you know that?"
She pushed Brian to the back of her mind, refusing to let him ruin their first night back. She glanced over the back of the couch, her eyes watching Phoenix who had abandoned them to sniff out the house. He was particularly interested in the refridgerator in the kitchen, and Riley smiled before she turned back to Roland.
"Hey, we're home."

"It took me a little while to figure it out," Roland said with a smile. "And I can't promise I'll always say the right things... We just have to be patient with each other."
He leaned his head against hers, finally feeling totally relaxed. There was no more stress, no more worry; they were home. And he already felt comfortable in her apartment. It no longer felt like just her apartment, it was theirs.
"Yes, we're home. And I'm not dead anymore. I wonder how many people get to say that."

"Neither one of us are that great with patience, but I think we can do it. I want to be patient with you. And now that we're not at each other's throats, our short patience hasn't really been too much of a problem."
Riley laughed at the next bit. "Not many people. It's not every day that someone gets to come back from the dead. I'm glad I got to be a part of it."
She was relaxed too, finally, and the feeling of being home and being home with him made her feel like no matter was going on around them, everything was okay. "Actually, you know... having you back in the world and here is nice... but it doesn't matter. You feel like home to me. Wherever you are, that's my home."

Those words made him smile. Having thought those same thoughts about her, it was a relief to know that she felt the same way. He'd never said it, because he was afraid it would sound silly, but when she said it, it just sounded beautiful.
He turned his head to look at her. "You're my home, too," he said. "I love you."
Then he pulled away and shifted position so that he was facing her. Putting his hands on each side of her face, he looked at her for a minute, just taking in the sight of her. Merlin, she just took his breath away sometimes, and all he could do to express how deeply he felt for her was to lean in and kiss her.
So he did.

And there they went. Riley smiled into the kiss and deepened it after a moment. She adored him, the taste of his lips and the feel of hands when he held her face like that. Good Godric, they were perfect together. She didn't know what she would ever do without him.
She broke their kiss, her forehead pressing against his. "Maybe I'm being premature here, but my cleaning charm put new sheets on the bed." She shrugged. "In case you were wondering." Her eyes met his, and there was a sparkle of laughter in them. It felt different than she expected, having him in the world while they were together. It felt perfect and safe and just right. She knew, without a doubt, that this wasn't a fling or something that would fade.

He smiled, brushing his knuckles gently across her cheek. "I was hoping we'd get around to that," he said. "It's been days."
His emphasis on the last word indicated how he felt about that; it seemed more like years. He didn't mind, really... after all, at least he'd been able to be with her most of that time. And they'd had more important things to deal with first. It would just make this moment that much sweeter.
He took her hand and stoood up, then looked down at Phoenix, who had settled down at their feet. "Sorry, boy. You know the deal... You have to wait outside."

She laughed at the emphasis, and couldn;t help but love the stage of the relationship they were in where it was impossible to keep their hands off of each other. She hoped they stayed in this stage forever, even when they had a chid on their hands.
Riley smiled at Phoenix, bending down to scratch his ears, her hand still entwined with Roland's. "You know we love you anyway," she told the dog, who she could already tell was going to be way too big for her apartment. And with a baby... Well, they had time to figure it out. Her apartment would do for now.
She stood back up and squeeze Roland's hand, nodding toward the bedroom. "Lead the way." She followed him to the bedroom, and when they were inside, she kicked the door closed behind her and pulled on his hand to bring him back to her as their lips crashed together.
