"You did not" she defended her brother who was going to take the guilt until it ate at him. "Riley doesn't blame you, no one does but you." she said taking his chin in her hand and lifting it so he was looking at her, " If you want to be mad at somebody if you want to blame someone, blame the man who used you. You had no control over it." she despaired trying to make him understand.

"Yes, but... I feel like I should have done something. Fought back, or... I don't know." He sighed and leaned closer to her. "It's a horrible feeling, you know? To have no control over your own actions... to be forced to take a back seat while someone controls your every move. And to know that my best friend in the world may never trust me again. How can she? I wouldn't trust me..."

"This world is a dangerous place Geoff, these times are dangerous times. As an Auror Riley knows that. She wouldn't want you to punish yourself like this because of another man's actions. Strong men, men who have had specific training against the imperius curse have still succumbed to it Geoffrey. You can't carry this kind of guilt on your shoulders because you didn't know how to stop another person's dark magic. " she swallowed.
"In the attack..I tried to fight back...tried so hard but they were so much better...they had so much power Geoff..." her eyes glazed as her mind carried her back to the insanity of the Hogsmead attack, " and when I saw Sam...I couldn't do anything at first. I tried, but they were too strong. Sam died Geoff, but not because I couldn't save her, but because an evil masked man decided to kill her. It was his fault, not mine." it was the first time she opened up to anybody what she had gone through in the attack, even though she hadn't told the whole of it, talking about it was good for her.
But he was right about something, she felt that she could have done more as well, she could have fought back if only she had more knowledge.

Geoffrey squeezed his eyes shut. Everything just seemed so messed up.... Sam really had died for a few minutes and had been revived.... and then there was Roland... and now this. Geoffrey wasn't sure he could live like this. crippled with fear of the next attack, or paralyzed with worry over which family member he might lose next. It was all too much, and he didn't think he'd been adequately prepared for this situation.
"Would you call me a coward if I said I really kind of just want to hide away from the world until all of this is over?" he murmured softly.

"I won't if you won't" she smiled, "We could hide together."
For Christine to admit that she wanted to hide was altogether strange. She wasn't the type to run and hide, she wasn't the type to stay safely behind her family or whatever body guard went out to save her. She usually headed right to where the danger was like a moth to the flame...but she was scared this time, more scared than she ever had been in her life.
