Ross was her best friend, and Danny had all but avoided him the last couple of months. She had a flaundeirng fling with Edmund, but in the end, she knew his heart wasn't in it. It hurt, but it made her do a lot of thinking too, and maybe, just maybe, the cosmos were trying to point her back to Ross.
She wasn't ready for a relationship, but she missed her best friend. Things had been so stressful at work, and she didn't even know if he was okay. The apartment building was damaged in the attack... what if he wasn't all right?
She put on a nice shirt and pants, muggle clothes, and let her hair done, looking like the girl she rarely dressed like, because of work, and found herself knocking on Ross' door, a bottle of wine in hand. They needed to catch up.

For the past few months, Ross did everything that he was supposed to have done. He went to work, did whatever was on the agenda for his day at work, then left tired and came home, only to practically pass out as soon as he hit his bed.
Things had been extremely quiet, especially since he had admitted his feelings to Danny. She had avoided him, and part of him didn't blame her. Maybe they could just erase that part and just be friends again. That was what he hoped, but he was unsure what her work schedule was so he didn't go over, even though she lived next door.
The attack, luckily happened when Ross was at work and his apartment wasn't damaged. His apartment hadn't changed, everything was the same as it always was.
Ross was slightly surprised when he heard a knock on the door. He had just finished up in the shower, and pulled his t-shirt on over his head before opening the door.
Opening the door, a wide smile spread across his face. "Danny," he said. "Its good to see you." He opened his door wider and moved so she could enter. Taking in her appearance, she hadn't really changed too much. He noticed what she was wearing, then took in what he was wearing. "If I knew that you were going to be dressed up, I would have put on something different," Ross said with a hint of teasing.

Danny smiled. It was like nothing happened... which was just what she needed. She didn't think she could handle a conversation about how things went and all of that. Honestly, she just wanted to be friends with him again. She missed her best friend.
"It was the only thing I had clean, besides a pair of scrubs," she replied, also teasingly. It was a well known fact that Danny let her personal life slide when she was so caught up in work. Laundry and such just didn't get done until it absolutely had to.
Coming inside, she held out the bottle of wine. "I come bearing gifts."

"Well, you know I wouldn't really care what you came in." He grinned. "And since you said that that is the only thing you have clean, looks like you have to do some laundry soon... I could always toss mine in too." His voice still had his usual playful tone. "That way I wouldn't have to do mine. You could do it for me."
Looking at the wine, Ross laughed. "I've always trusted what you bring, so I know its not poisonus." He walked over to the cabinet and picked up two wine glasses. It had been awhile since he used them.
"Come on in and have a seat."

"Oh, sure, make me do your dirty work... literally." She smiled and followed him towards the kitchen while he grabbed two wine glasses. She liked this, able to just talk to him like always. He obliged her, acting like nothing had happened between them. She just wished she had come to him sooner.
She ignored him telling her to have a seat, and set the wine on the counter, moving around it to get to him, and she threw her arms around him, hugging him close. She was comforted by that familiar Ross smell.
"I've really missed you."

"Well, the good thing about it is, my clothes are not sweaty so you wouldn't have to worry about them smelling bad." Ross gave her his trademark grin. He had let enough time pass so that he didn't have to think about what had been. They could just go back to being friends and none of the awkward stuff. After all, that was what she had wanted.
He wasn't paying attention to her not taking a seat at first. It was the movement he saw out of the corner of his eye that he looked toward her. Ross still had the glasses in his hand it and it took him by surprise when she hugged him.
"Oh, hugging time, hold on," he said reaching slightly which caused him to be as close as possible to her in order to set the glasses down. Ross wrapped his arms around her tightly and hugged her. "I've missed you to. It's been far too quiet."

Danny laughed. "What, you don't sweat? Well, mine smell bad. But they're from the hospital, so I have an excuse."
Her eyes closed as he hugged her back, and she just took a deep breath, holding him tight. She had missed Ross so much... he was her best friend, and it had been really hard to stay away. When she wanted to talk to someone... well, Kieran and Chase had gotten more of her personal life than either of them probably wanted or needed, and she just hoped that they wouldn't use it against her. And she missed hearing about things going on in his life, too. "I love your hugs."

"Never said I didn't sweat. I just said my clothes weren't sweaty," he said teasingly.
Ross held onto her and rested his chin on the top of her head. He had missed the closeness between them, literally and figuratively. He made a mental note not to do anything else stupid to cause them to split apart again. After all, he missed his best friend and life was pretty dull without her.
"Maybe I should hug you more then huh?” As she took in his scent, he took in hers. “I love your hugs too. You give quite the manly hug." His tone was teasing again. He was only trying to make it like it used to be. "I'm only kidding about the manly hug part. You know I love your hugs too." Ross squeezed her tighter to him before pulling away a little to look at her. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you've grown a little taller," he said with a wink.

"Shut up," Danny said, laughing and trying to pull away from him while her squeezed her tighter. "I do not give manly hugs. And it worries me that you like manly hugs."
She stuck her tongue out at him when she could finally pull away, and moved into his kitchen.
"And nope... still the same, short girl I've always been. I swear I missed a growth spurt right about the time you hit your third one. Have you got anything to eat?" Their apartments were like each other's own, and she had no problem rummaging through his fridge.
It was easy to fall back into things with him, easy to pretend like nothing had happened between them. She'd been nervous when she first came over about it.

"You do give manly hugs," he said. "And the only manly hugs I like are the Danny Thomas manly hugs." Ross gave her a wide grin. Sliding back into how things used to be seemed to be easy, almost too easy.
"I like you short. You're one of those friends I could just stick in my back pocket and take you anywhere." Of course that last bit was an exaggeration. Ross gave her a wink before walking over and opening up his cabinets. "Freshly stocked with junk food." After his cabinet was open, he walked over to the fridge and freezer. "I've also got ice cream, and then there is some sandwich stuff in there and other stuff if you actually want to cook something. Personally I was going to be lazy and call for Chinese or Japanese, which ever menu I picked up first, but if you want something else, I can make it for you."

"Shut up," Danny said with a laugh. "My hugs are girly and nice and you love them." She knew he was teasing her, and she just gave it right back. Merlin, it felt good to be back. She'd missed having Ross in her life for the last couple of months.
In his kitchen, she took liberty to look through his cabinets, making a face because none of it sounded really good.
"No, I like your idea. Let's call for Chinese. That sounds good. I'll even pay for it."

"Oh, so you don't like what I have in my kitchen," he said teasingly. "Well, that just means more junk for me." Ross grinned and made his way to the phone.
"Chinese food it is, and you paying for it sounds good too." He winked at her before calling the Chinese resturant. Knowing Danny long enough to not argue with her when it came to paying. If she said she was going to pay then there was no room for argument.
Just as he was dialing the number, he looked at her. "Do you want your usual or are you branching out today?"

"You be careful, or you'll get fat. And don't think I won't say I told you so."
She settled back into the couch and watched him get his phone, her head tilting to the side. She missed him, really more than she could say. It had just been strange, and bad timing, when he said those things to her. In the end, he was the one who remained.
"Come here," she said, rolling forward and grabbing his hand to pull him onto the couch while he dialed the number. "I want what you want."

"I can't get fat, you know that. I can eat insane amounts of food and never gain a pound. Looks like I'm stuck like this forever." Ross grinned as he picked up the phone. He knew the Chinese take out number by heart. The Chinese couple even knew his usual order.
Dialing the number, he wasn't expecting Danny to grab his hand but he moved to sit beside her on the couch, still holding onto her hand. "Yes ma'am," he said smiling at her. The last month had been a long one. He tried to get over what happened, but that was easier said than done. Of course he still had feelings for the woman sitting next to him, but if she just wanted to be friends, then he could do his best to do that, which he was doing right now.
Ross told Mrs. Leung that he wanted two orders of his usual and that it could be delivered to his apartment. After a moment of answering her as to how he had been, Ross hung up the phone. "Food should be here in about 20 minutes."

Danny wasn't sure What to say after he ordered the food. There had to have been so much to catch up on. She could tell him about patients at the hospital, or that the whole staff sort of made it their mission to get Adrienne and Tim together. But none of That seemed... right.
"Edmund and I aren't seeing each other anymore," she blurted out, immediately cringing and wondering why in Godrics name she picked that to say.

There was a small silence between them and Ross wasn't sure how to read it. It was almost as if Danny were contemplating something, but then he heard the next words that came out of her mouth. For a moment, he was confused. Why would she just tell him that? He wasn't exactly sure. Part of him was cheering on the inside because she was free of the man that Ross didn't like, but then the other part of him felt bad. She was his best friend and it was time to be that supportive friend that he was supposed to be.
"I'm sorry love," Ross said sincerely. He moved his arm to put it around her shoulders in a friend like gesture. "Do I need to go find him and curse him into oblivion?"

Why had she just announced that to him? It wasn't like she wanted to tell him she was single and available. Just That the cause of the rift between them was gone.
"No... it's all right. Probably bound to happen anyway. I just wanted you to... know."
She turned into him, hugging him for the second time do far. "And I'm sorry how it all went down."

Ross was unclear as to why she told him. He wasn't going to really ask about him, but she did settle the wondering of his mind.
For a moment, he was quiet again. "Well, thanks for telling me." Ross felt Danny turn into him and he tightened his arm around her. He took the moment to let things be quiet. It was a comfortable like silence.
"Don't worry about that," he began. "What happened in the past happened. We can only move forward."

Danny thought he was a little too forgiving, but she wasn't going to complain. This was her best friend, and if she was being honest, she had been absolutely lost without him.
"Forward it is," she responded lamely, then sighed, wondering where else to go from here, or where exactly 'forward' was, but she wasn't content to let them spend long in the silence.
"We had a vampire attack at work today. Apparently, we're even treating the vampire, despite the fact there were two victims brought in with it."

Ross didn't want to argue with Danny and he had done his best to put what happened behind him. After all, it was sort of his fault that it happened and he had come to terms with that. He shouldn't have expressed himself the way he did that night and every time he thought about it, he wanted to kick himself even more.
He noticed the tone in her voice and was going to ask about it, but she made a statement that he thought answered his question. "A vampire attack?" Ross furrowed his brows. He glanced over her quickly, just to make sure she was okay. Of course she was okay seeing as she was sitting in front of him, but it was just an instinct to make sure she was alright.
"Why exactly are you treating something that could go berserk at any moment and kill you?"
