Adele sat, clearly uncomfortable with the situation. Then again, maybe it was Caleb's- no, Professor Renneau's- goal to make her as uncomfortable as he could. He probably thought he was doing something good for her.
She was quiet while they teased each other, though her eyes lifted and met Sam's. She offered a smile, and it was a truce of sorts, a peace offering. They hadn't quite gotten off on the best foot.

Thank Merlin for Christine. He smiled at her comment and gestured for Adele to take a seat. He caught his sister's questioning glance, and his own was somewhat pleading. He knew Samantha's reserved nature would prevent her from being warm and welcoming like Christine, but there was so much more to his sister than what met the eye, she was really a wonderful and loyal person beneath the wall she kept up. "Indeed, well that doesn't surprise me considering who it is who's defying convention." he said staring purposefully toward Christine. Christine stuck her tongue out, but inwardly she was quite proud of defying convention, she didn't think much of it, but rather did what felt right. Segregation because of houses felt very wrong to someone who loved social interaction and new things. Then again many of society's conventions struck her as odd, perhaps that was the effect of progressive parenting. She turned then toward Adele and smiled, "It's Adele isn't it?"

Samantha, still a bit reserved caught the smile and nodded back one of her own. She looked at her brother, then at the girl again, and finally at Christine who insisted on being nice to everybody. But really Samantha couldn't find fault with the girl if her brother had invited her, and by the looks of things she could tell that her brother had in all likelihood probably dragged the girl to eat with them.
Samantha nodded, "Adele's in our Arithmancy class." she offered the information to her cousin, then turned toward the girl, "Have you eaten? As usual my cousin's overdone it." she said gesturing to all the food.

Adele glanced up quickly, realizing that she was being spoken to, and nodded. "Right. Adele Graham. I think we're in the same year," she told Christine, and then let Samantha take over. There was definitely a difference in their personalities. Christine was bubbly and would probably befriend anyone. And Sam... well, you had to earn it with Sam. That, Adele could relate to.
"I'm actually not that hungry," she replied, but knew it would be rude to sit here and watch them all eat. "But maybe I'll just snack on something." Almost subconsciously, she shot a look at her professor and sighed quietly.

Adele had hit the nail on the head. Christine would befriend anyone and what he loved most about her was that she wasn't afraid to defy convention to do it. She also brought out good things in other people.
Sam was more reserved, but she had come a long way since her mother died and Caleb was proud of her.
He was about to insist that she eat something when she said that she would snack and in general he smiled then, "Well you know I can demolish about half of this." he said good-naturedly.
It was such a difference to see him with his family. In class he was a fun teacher, a good teacher at that, with other students he was patient and kind, but he always held the authority figurehead so well it was easy to distinguish him from student to teacher. But here, with his family, he lost the years and maturity quickly becoming one of their own.

It was almost maddening for Adele, who already had trouble staying behind the line of authority when she thought about him. To see him as a peer was something a little shocking, but a role he seemed to fill well.
She took a deep breath and looked back at the two other girls. "How are your classes going?" She asked them, hoping it didn't sound like forced small talk. She didn't mean it to be, she just didn't want them to have any ill feelings towards her.

It wasn't so difficult for Sam or Christine to go with the change. They respected him in the classroom and there wasn't any favoritism either, but because he was such a fun teacher anyway most of the class felt at ease teasing him along with Christine and Sam. Still here they relaxed the teacher student standing and he became the brother and the family member.
Christine turned towards Adele and answered immediately, "Oh same old...boring teachers." she teased her cousin. "How about you?"
