Roland stepped forward and held out his hand. "Luke Patterson? I'm Roland Ferrera, and this is my partner, Riley Neves. We're from the Auror department, and we were wondering if we could take up a little of your time to ask you a couple of questions."

He reached out and shook the man's hand. "Yeah, I'm Luke. It's nice to meet you Roland, Riley," Luke said pleasantly. "A couple of questions? Sure, no problem. Take a seat if you like." He gestured to the empty chairs at the table and he took a seat in his chair. Luke didn't have a clue as to why he was being questioned, but he was going to cooperate with them however they needed him to.

Roland's eyebrows shot up and he glanced at Riley as he moved over to sit in one of the chairs. "Forgive me for saying so, but you're unusually cooperative and agreeable for an Unspeakable," he remarked. "Not that we don't appreciate it, of course. But I'm quite certain that not all of your co-workers would be quite so willing to talk."
He gave the young man a smile, then began with the questions. "Are you familiar with Arachne Weaver?" he asked.

"I know what I can and can't really talk about," Luke said with a smile. "Although, I know that you two are not really here to ask questions about what we do here, so of course I'm willing to talk. And, if I'm not mistaken, both of you are aurors." He was very observant of people most of the time.
"Arachne Weaver? The intern? I don't really know too much about her, but I'm familiar with her, yes."

Roland simply nodded. "Yes, that's the one. I know this is subjective, especially since you don't know her well, but would you mind telling us what your impression is of Ms. Weaver? Did she seem odd or untrustworthy to you, or did she behave suspiciously?"

Riley gave Roland a warning glance. He was leading Luke with his questions, and he needed to be a lot more subjective.
But after shaking Luke's hand and sitting down, she had remained fairly quiet. She was trusting him, like he asked her to do, until he flipped his lid again.
She waited for Luke to answer, watching him carefully. He was honest... or extremely good at lying.

"My impression of Ms. Weaver is that she likes whatever she does. I don't really care to much for her to be honest, but if I am ever told to work with her, I guess I don't really have a say in the matter. I don't know what it is about her, but she seems to be almost sneaky like." Luke wasn't sure what to make of Arachne. "She has seemed pretty sure of herself though, if that helps any."

Roland nodded. He had caught the look from Riley, and, out of a desire not to argue with her for the time being, decided to change tactics.
"How long have you worked here, Mr. Patterson?" he asked. "I imagine you know your boss, Mr. Rookwood, fairly well by now, correct?"

Luke didn't catch inbetween Roland and Riley, but he did notice the change in the direction the questions were going. Still, Luke was going to cooperate with them. "I've worked here for the past two years," he said. "As for knowing Mr. Rookwood well, I wouldn't say extremely well. We tend to keep to ourselves here, after all, we each have our own jobs to do. What is it that you need to know about him?"

Roland shot another look at Riley. He didn't want to be accused of leading the witness, as she would probably say. But he was interested to see what Patterson's impression was of Rookwood.
"What is your impression of Rookwood?" he asked at last. "As a boss, that is?"

"My impression? At first I thought him a little intimidating quite honestly, then I started working here for a little while and things seemed to mellow out for a little bit. He just always kept to himself, didn't say to much or anything like that. He just makes sure that we get our reports in. One point I thought he was keeping secrets or something, but then I didn't think to much of it because of the place we work." Luke shrugged. "I guess he's alright, but then again I don't see too much of him anymore."

It wasn't particularly informative, but then Roland wasn't really sure what he had expected. He glanced at Riley again, then continued. "Ms. Weaver is supposed to be an intern here, but for the last month or so, she's been working as a teaching assistant at Hogwarts, while Mr. Rookwood is serving as a judge on the tournament. Do you have any idea why that would be the case?"
They had Fiona's answer. And while it was probably accurate, he wanted to hear Luke's take on it.

"The only reason I can think of is that he is keeping Arachne close to him since she is an intern. He is the one teaching her what she needs to know to work here and I suppose he just trusts himself with interns more than anyone else so he got her to work at Hogwarts while he's a judge." Luke answered honestly. It was just his thoughts on the reasoning of keeping Arachne close because he was never really told why.

The answer wasn't too different from what Fiona had said. It was a matter of trust... and Arachne didn't have it. It was interesting... but it didn't mean anything. "If that were the case, wouldn't it make sense that Mr. Rookwood would be working closely with her, paying attention to her... and yet, he is not acknowledging her at all. No one at the school appears to realize that they are both from the department of mysteries. Does that seem odd to you? Do you have any explanation for this?"

"It would make sense that he would want to keep an eye on her, but it doesn't make any sense that he doesn't even acknowlege her." Luke furrowed his eyebrows and tried to think of some kind of explaination. "I don't know. It just doesn't make any sense. You don't think that they're trying to hide something or anything do you? That would be the only reason I could think of, but I don't know what they would be hiding." He sighed, still trying to rack his brain of other reasons, but they seemed to all cancel out and it would go to his first thought.

Roland glanced at Riley. There was definitely something strange about the whole thing. And even Rookwood's own people didn't seem to have any idea what it could be.
"You wouldn't happen to have any idea what kind of projects Ms. Weaver was involved in before she began the teaching assistant position, would you?" he asked. He had a feeling that he wouldn't know... Unspeakables, in general, didn't talk about their work, even to each other. Still, it was worth a shot.

"I'm not really sure. I do know that when it comes to interns, they don't really have a full on project themselves since they're still getting to know the department. Although as for the project itself, I don't know. We're basically on our own here working on whatever we have to and giving reports to Mr. Rookwood as soon as we can." Luke knew that he was being vague on the jobs, but he had to be.

"That makes sense," Roland said. Glancing at Riley, he stood up. "Thanks again, Mr. Patterson. You've been very helpful. I think we're about done here, unless you have anything to add?"
The strange connection between Arachne Weaver and Augustus Rookwood was just as much a mystery as ever. Why would he act as if he didn't know her, especially if she was there so Rookwood could keep an eye on her? It didn't make sense.

With everything going on now, Luke wanted to keep an extra ear out, just to see if he heard anything.
"I can't think of anything else," he said. "I'm sorry that I couldn't have been any more help. Although, if I find out anything odd, I'll let you know." Luke stretched his hand out to shake Roland's once again. "And if you need anything else, just let me know."

Roland shook hands with Luke. "Thanks again. We'll be sure to let you know if we come up with anything else. Have a nice day."
He was quiet as he and Riley walked back to the main entrance of the Department of Mysteries. They hadn't really got any answers, but he certainly had come up with a lot more questions. And both Fiona and Luke had been unusually forthcoming for people whose very jobs were about keeping secrets. "Well, what do you think?" he asked at last, turning to her. "We can try to talk to Mrs. Burke, if you think we'll get anything new out of her, but I'm rather inclined to skip right to Rookwood."
