Roland gave a crooked grin. "Sorry, Uncle Judah... I guess I'm starting to get suspicious of my family's motives. Seems like everyone's always trying to give me advice... Although, I suppose I'm no better, when it comes down to it."
He shrugged casually. "Anyway, I don't mind talking to you. It's good seeing you. I just wish my parents would stop worrying about me. I might be having a little trouble, but I'll work it out."

"Well, we just give advice because it's what we're supposed to do," Judah said with a laugh. "It's just that we want to make sure that you're doing okay and sometimes give you ideas at how things could possibly go." He finished off his glass and set it down on the table.
"Worrying is something parents do. We're supposed to worry about our children along with our nieces and nephews. No matter how many times you tell your parents don't worry about you, they're going to wherever you like it or not. We've all been there and thought the same thing."

Roland's lip twitched upward. He knew all of this, and yet, he'd always tried to fight it. He liked to deal with his own problems on his own, without advice or interference. He had been that way since he could talk. Ever since the birth of his first sibling, he had felt that he had to be the one to help take care of the younger ones, but he expected to be able to be left alone to deal with his own problems. And yet his family was always so loving and supportive, and they constantly tried to get into his business and "help" him. He loved them all desperately... but sometimes he wished they would leave him alone.
"I know... you're right," he sighed. "I just... I like to handle things myself. And I'm afraid I've never been very good at taking advice from people, even from my family. I'd rather do things my way. That's why this thing with Riley's got me so frustrated... she's got her own style, and I don't like having to adapt my working style to fit with hers."

"There's nothing wrong with doing things your way," Judah said. "And I know that adapting your ways to someone else's is hard, but it's not impossible." He gave a smile. "But you never know what reward you could get by working things out." Judah gave a shrug. All the Ferrera's were stubborn and they wanted to do things their way, but there where times when they had to just put their stubbornness aside.
"I know that you'll find some kind of way to make it through."

Roland let out a chuckle. He loved his uncle, just as he loved the rest of his family. But he had such a positive view on things, which was sometimes in opposition to his own cynical ways. Yet he found it endearing. He needed to hear such positive ideas sometimes, otherwise, there was a chance he could be swallowed up by darkness.
Since becoming an auror, Roland had seen a lot of things, and learned more about the darker side of life than he'd ever wanted to see. Sometimes he felt it had hardened him a little. It had to... how else could he deal with it? In some ways, he actually felt he was lucky to have been born into this family; who knows where he would be or what he would be doing if he had been born into another family?
"You're right, Uncle," he said quietly. "I'll try. Not like I have a choice." He rubbed his forehead, then looked back up at him. "Listen... maybe you can help me with something."

"That's true, you don't really have a choice, but you might as well try and look on the bright side of things. But like I said before you're a good kid and things will work out for you some how or another." Judah rested his back on the back of the chair. Roland sometimes needed some kind of push to get things going in the right direction.
Judah leaned up when he said that he could help him with something. "And what is this thing that I could help you with?"

Roland locked eyes with him, hoping that if anyone could help, it would be his uncle. "This situation with Cyrus. My father has always been extra harsh on him, and I don't think it's quite fair. Cyrus isn't the screwup my father thinks he is. I was wondering if you could help me convince Dad to ease up on Cyrus a little."

"Ah, Cyrus." Judah paused for a moment. He knew that Cyrus wasn't as bad as Mathieu thought and he wished that the boy would marry Lina already. Of course, he knew that Cara didn't think too highly of her, but Cyrus should just do it anyway if he really loved the girl.
"Yeah. I'll see what I can do about changing your father's mind about Cyrus. You're father is pretty stubborn, but I think I can handle him well enough."

Roland smiled slightly. "I'd appreciate it," he said. "I talked to my parents about the situation the other night and I realized that Dad and Mum aren't even on the same page about Cyrus. Dad thinks this is all Cyrus's fault, that he messed up and now won't own up to his mistake. But Mum thinks that Lina is... well, that she's using him, and that Cyrus might not even be Mara's father." He sighed in frustration. "I swear, they both drive me crazy sometimes. And they wonder why I don't want to date."

Nathalia finally made her way over to Judah and Roland's table, hoping she could still save a tip out of it, despite keeping them waiting for so long.
"Hello, gentlemen," She said, flashing her prettiest smile. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting. There was a slight problem in the back."
Relatives, she decided. Or, this was a business meeting... that seemed possible too, but they had very similar eyes... a Ferrera family trait she was as unaware of as she was of the family itself.
"What can I get for you?"

Never mind the fact that the words "I don't date" had not yet died on his lips. He wasn't a monk, and he wasn't above a little flirtation or maybe more once in a while. It was the commitment that he wanted to avoid.
He turned towards her, his lip quirked up in the corner. "I heard a little rumor that you make the best drinks in town," he said. "Can you get me something strong and not sweet?"

Nathalia's eyes narrowed just slightly, and definitely playfully. "Now, who would have told you something like that?" Actually, it was something of a compliment that word had gotten out about her, unless it was Andi that said it, but she didn't recognize Roland and so she doubted it. He was good looking, though, and she liked the bit of flirtation anyway.
"I can. You want to name your poison, or do you trust me to surprise you?"

Roland's smile spread and he leaned forward, bracing his chin on his hand. "You'd be surprised how quickly rumors like that can spread," he replied. "I'm assuming you were the one they were talking about. I was told to look for the pretty blonde who works at Stu's. Now that I see you, I think they might have under-represented you."
Still smiling, he shrugged carelessly. "I trust you," he said lightly. "Surprise me."

"Well, I'm the only girl... and the only blonde here, so you definitely found the right person."
Nathalia actually couldn't help but smile. She was used to people saying things like that to her. She was pretty and she knew it, but she was also down to earth and never really let the compliments go to her head. Roland, however, looked like the type that didn't hand out compliments easily. Those were the kind that made her smile genuinely.
"That's almost a dangerous decision," She said with a little laugh. "Strong but not sweet, got it." She didn't have a pad to write their orders down on... she figured she could remember two drinks and anything else they might want.
She turned to the older of the two. "And for you?"

Judah wanted to laugh whenever the blonde woman appeared at the table, but he kept a light smile on his face. He listened to the two speak and kept his comments to himself. When the blonde turned to him, Judah thought about it. "Just something light, not too strong. I don't want to have Suri mad at me for drinking something too heavy before dinner." He gave a chuckle.

Nat loved it when they left their drinks up to her. It gave her time to experiment, which was how she had appearantly gotten a reputation. She was going to have fun with Roland's, too.
"Something light... got it," She said with a small nod. "I'll be right back with your drinks... is there anything else I can do for you?"

Roland leaned back in his seat, still smiling. "I can think of a few things," he said, his voice still light. "But they can wait until later."
He could feel his uncle's eyes on him, but he was unconcerned. He certainly wouldn't behave this way in front of his parents, but his uncle wouldn't judge him, he was sure. As long as it didn't get back to his mother, he had no qualms about a little flirtation.

Judah's eyes were dancing with laughter as Roland spoke again. "Thanks," he said as the blonde left.
A wide grin spread across his face and he shook his head once he knew that the girl was gone. "I do believe that I've had my amusement of the day." Of course Judah wasn't going to judge Roland.

Roland looked back at his uncle, his smile fading to a crooked grin. "What's so amusing?" he said. "I mean, just because I'm not interested in a relationship doesn't mean I can't have a little fun once in a while. Just do me a favor and don't tell my mum, OK? She'd never let me hear the end of it."

"I never said that there was anything bad about it," he said. "I just think its amusing and don't worry, no one is going to know anything. I know that your mum would go crazy, and I'm not going to be the reason behind her going that way," Judah was still grinning. "But good luck with that one Roland." He chuckled a little.
