"I saw you!" Jackie said, finally turning around to confront him and she came down two steps to meet him. "You weren't pushing her away!" His hands had been on her shoulders, and his entire body was static. There was no pushing her away.
"Dean," she said, a fire burning in her eyes. "Don't do this. I can't do this, and you lying to me isn't making anything better." She shook her head and then contradicted herself. "I'll deal with this. Just please leave me alone."
She turned again and continued up the stairs. He could follow her, but eventually, she would get to her common room and she'd be able to get away from him.

His hands had been on her shoulders because he and pushed her away after her just clinging to him. "Jackie, I did push her away! She kissed me and I was shocked but I pushed her away." Dean could try to tell her what happened, but she wouldn't listen to him. He knew how she got when she became stubborn.
As Jackie started up the stairs, Dean wanted to chase after her but he knew that it would just make matters worse. He could try to do everything possible to tell her that he didn't do anything, but it wouldn't get to her because she would be too stubborn to listen. He let himself just fall to the ground as he cursed loudly. Dean rested his back against the wall and put his head in his hands. How was he supposed to make everything right again?

He was right-- she wasn't listening. She was too upset and too certain of what she had seen to listen to him.
She was gone, taking the stairs two at a time, both sad and glad that he wasn't following her. That meant he was going back to Zoe, and it hurt her even more.

Things had turned for the worse and Dean didn't know what to do. He wasn't going to let other students see him just out in the hall like that, even if he didn't care at the moment.
Dean stood up and started to walk. He noticed Zoe. The thought of leaving her there entered his mind, but Dean wasn't that cruel. Even if he was mad with her for what she did, he couldn't just leave her there it was humilating enough for her that he didn't love her. Sighing he bent down, his eyes starting to become red because he was trying his best not to tear up. "Zoe?"

Zoe had been lying on the floor, wallowing in her self-pity. She wasn't crying, but only because she was too weak and tired to bother. She had worked herself to the point of collapse, and she really needed rest and food. Not that she would ever admit it.
"Dean?" she whimpered, glad he had finally come back for her. "I'm so tired, Dean..."

Dean picked her up off the floor easily. "I'm going to take you to the hospital wing," he said with sorrow in his voice. "I can't just leave you here when you need help." He didn't wait for her to protest, he started to walk to the hospital wing. Once he got her there, he was just going to go off on his own for a bit. He needed time to think.

Zoe didn't even care what the reason was, she was just glad to be in his arms again. Later, when she had recovered, she would feel ashamed of her self and her utter lack of pride, but now, she just wanted to close her eyes and pretend that Dean was carrying her away because he loved her.
"Thank you," she whispered softly.

He just gave a nod of his head, unsure if she noticed or not. Dean carried her up to the fourth floor and into the hospital wing. Too many thoughts were swirling in his mind as he found an empty bed to lay Zoe on. "Madam Pomfrey," he called out.
Dean looked back to Zoe. "Take care Zoe," he said. "Madam Pomfrey will make you better." He didn't know what else to tell her. Dean walked over to Madam Pomfrey whenever she appeared. He explained what was going on with Zoe, in hopes that she could bring her back to some kind of normalcy.

Madam Pomfrey nodded sympathetically. She had seen things like this before, students who worked themselves so hard that they broke down. It had happened to Zoe more than once. The girl was high-strung, even on her best days.
"Thanks for bringing her to me," she said. "I'll take care of her. Mostly what she needs is rest and a good meal. I'll make sure she gets both." She gave Dean a quick smile, then went about tending to her patient.
