Even though Gerry lived in England for the past two and a half to three years, he still had not lost his accent or anything else for that matter. He was still the Gerry that he had always been.
Tonight, he was dressed in muggle clothing, jeans and a button up shirt. Gerry never cared to much to wear robes. Sometimes he would get the things tangled, but however there were times when he did wear robes.
Taking a seat at the bar Gerry nodded to the bartender and ordered a firewhiskey, which was his usual order. He didn't care for other drinks that much unless it was non-alcoholic. He kept his back toward the door and started off his usual weekend.

Aaron had just been sent away after trying to sell an article to the Daily prophet. He shouldn't have been terribly upset, as it was the Prophet and no one really took the paper seriously anymore, but writing was an art and refusal was a criticism of his art.
A drink should have taken care of it, anyway, ad he ordered a firewhiskey, listening to the other man order his drink. Tha was quite obviously not a native's accent.
Smiling, as he was a friendly and outgoing guy, he asked conversationally, "Not from around here, are you?"

Looking away from his drink, Gerry looked to the man that spoke to him. "Naw, not really. Been livin' here couple years now though," he said. "Thought I'd move ever here and see what I could do work wise. There ain't anythin' back home that really strikes a huge interest. It seems like the more interestin' stuff happens over here." He gave a laugh then held out his hand in greeting. "I'm Gerry."

Aaron almost laughed, trying to follow along with what this man was saying. He was talking so fast and with a very thick accent, and he really probably only picked up half of it. But already, this Gerry seemed like a friendly sort to be around. And who knew, maybe the basis for a character in that book of his.
"Well, nice to meet you. I'm Aaron. Where the hell are you from, Gerry?"

Gerry couldn't help but laugh. Even though he had been living in England for awhile, he still hadn't lost his accent. The saying you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy, was true for Gerry.
"Nice ter meet you too Aaron." Aaron seemed like a nice guy. "I'm from Alabama," said Gerry. "There ain't much of anythin' that happens down there. 'Course if yer interested in huntin', it's a great place fer it."

Aaron had to listen very actively to Gerry to understand all of what he said. He was lucky if he caught every fourth word, but he was truthfully getting a kick out of it. Besides, he imagined Americans looked the the British the same way when they got on a roll and started talking fast.
But he was already creating a character in his head out of Gerry.
"Alabama, hm? What made you decide to move to a country where the sun never shines?"

"I figured that I'd get to find a better job over here than in America," he said. "Like I said, there ain't anythin' too excitin' that happens over there. 'Course over here is completely different than Alabama, although I have ter say I like it here. People sure are nice." Gerry gave a grin.
"I thought maybe I could find a job with the Ministry or somethin' but as of right now I still ain't decided on anythin'."

"Good as reason as any, I suppose," Aaron said with a friendly smile. He had never actually looked for a steady job, and didn't know that he would even have the skills for one if he tried.
"Well, if you're really interested, I know a couple of guys in different departments that might be able to help you. Is there a department you're particularly interested in?"
(Sorry so short)

"I'm open to anythin' really," Gerry said. "As long as I don't have ter sit behind a desk all day I think I'll be just fine. Stayin' inside all the time is not really my thing. I like to be out and doin' things." He hated being in doors all day. The idea of of being cooped up in an office all day was not his line of work. Gerry was more of the guy who prefered to work out in the field. If that required some work at a desk, that would be alright, just as long as it wasn't all the time.

"Oh, we're complete opposites then," Aaron replied, still getting a kick and a chuckle out of they way Gerry talked.
There were days when Aaron never emerged from the office room on his home, where he would be cooped up writing again. Staying inside for hours didn't bother him as much as it bothered some people.
"Anyway, a lot of the work at the Ministry in ever department is field work... some Departments more than others."

"I did hear 'bout the Ministry's jobs. An auror sounds like it would be sort of interestin'. Goin' after all them people ter help protect the innocent," said Gerry. "The Department of Magicial Catasotrophies and Accidents sounds like that would be pretty interestin' too. I'm alright with memory charms. I guess I'll just go and talk to 'em and see which would would need me the most." He gave a slight shrug before taking a drink.
"So, Aaron, what is that you do?"

"I've got a couple of friends who are Aurors," Aaron told him. "They travel a lot. Sounds right up your alley, eh?"
He could see Gerry working in either department, actually. He seemed to have an easy going temperment that would fit in well.
"I'm a journalist, actually. Well, journalist and aspiring novelist."

"That's kind of a neat job I suppose," said Gerry. "No offense ter you or anythin'. I couldn't imagine just sitting down and writin'. 'Course it wasn't ever one of my greatest points. I do like ter read every once in awhile." He had been known to pick up a book back home whenever the mood struck him.
"Aspirin' novelist. So, yer workin' on a book now?"

Aaron nodded. "When the muse strikes, I work on it. It's been a slow process, to be honest."
He kept it to himself that the first draft was almost entirely finished. He had even told Marietta that many of his chapters were still in outline format... and he wasn't lying completely. He had the chapters all most written, just not all included in his main manuscript yet.
"Anyway, I like it. It's not exactly a desk job, and I enjoy writing, so it never really feels like I'm working. My dad always told to do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life."

"That's somethin' like my mama used to tell me. As long as I find somethin' I like, everythin' will be just fine. I suppose that's why I ain't got a job yet." Gerry grinned and took a drink from his glass. "I wish you luck with yer book. Maybe one day it'll be a bestseller or somethin'."
Of the few people that Gerry had met, Aaron seemed to be the nicest one. "Workin' fer yerself is always nice."

"It is. No one to answer to, no time clock to punch, or however the muggles do it. I wouldn't have it any other way."
He took abother long drink from his glass. He couldn't even remember the last time he had worked for someone, but he was sure he had hated it.
"So does that mean you don't like anything, or that there's too much that you do like?"

"Naw, I do like things. I like ter work outside. Back home, I sometimes worked on cars which was interestin'. 'Course here wizards don't have cars, only muggles do. I need ter find a job that will allow me ter work in the field. Fightin' ain't somethin' I'm worried about. I don't mind doin' that kind of thing if the job calls fer it. If I can defend and protect somethin' then it's alright, I'll enjoy it."
Gerry wouldn't mind doing a little bit of office work when he had to, that wouldn't be a problem. He just had to keep himself busy rather than sit around and do absolutely nothing.

Aaron shrugged. "Most Ministry jobs will allow you to work in the field," he replied. "Sure, every department has their office jobs, but I know people in almost every department who work in the field. Except the Unspeakables. I have no idea what the hell they do."
He chuckled at this. The Unspeakables of course liked it that way, but what he wouldn't give to find one with a loose tongue so he could write an article.

"I've heard of 'em before. I've never been able to figure out what they do either. It would be nice ter know every once in awhile." He gave a shrug. "But I don't think that would be a good job fer me though. I'll probably be goin' to the Ministry in the mornin' and seein' where they need the most help and see 'bout workin' there."
Being an Unspeakable wouldn't suit Gerry. Sure, he could keep secrets but he couldn't see himself hiding away like that.

"I wonder if they ever know what they do half the time, or if they just go around always making it up. That's possible, you know." Aaron chuckled, imagining a bunch of important looking Unspeakables wandering around with files that had nothing in them.
He shook his head. "Nah, I think Auror is the way to go."
