Lina had never left before. Even when she was really angry, she had always stuck around. Hadn't she even told Jensen as much? So she could see where Cyrus thought she was leaving for good. What would he do if she said yes? Really, she just needed some time away, a day. But if he thought he was losing her, what would he do?
"Yes, Cyrus," she lied to him. "I'm leaving you. I can't do this anymore. If it really comes down to your parents, they will never give in, and that means you will never marry me. I can't do it. If I thought I was waiting for something, I would stay. But I can't stay knowing that this is all I will ever amount to... and unwed mother, failed Auror, unwanted mother of your parents' granddaughter. If I thought you'd even want to marry me if they accepted me, I'd stay. But you know how I know you won't? You haven't even asked. You can't even propose to me and ask me to wait for them to come around. I could do that, you know."
Honestly, she understood him wanting his parents there. She wanted hers there too. So why couldn't they just be engaged for a while?
She would never leave him, not really, but everything she was saying was true, and she was crying now thinking of it. "Yes, they are her grandparents. But where were they when I was pregnant? And where were they the last nine months of her life? I can't... I can't be here anymore."

Cyrus felt numb, everything seemed to almost slow to a stop around him. Her words continued to replay themselves inside his mind, over and over again. Lina was leaving him and for the first time in his life, Cyrus seriously did not know what to do. "How could you think that is all you are Lina? You are so much more.." He paused as he moved around the table, he held her hand gently in his as he stared into her eyes.
"You are my heart Lina, you and Mara are the most important things in my life. Your the reasons I do most of what I do, the reason why I want to better the wizarding world."

Lina's eyes hardened. Cyrus didn't get it... he could say the sweetest things imaginable right now, and they would only make her angrier.
Her heart was pounding in her anger, and the tears were streaming quietly down her cheeks. She told him she was leaving, and he still wouldn't ask her to marry him. He didn't need to beg, or anything... just propose.
And now it was too late.
She pulled away from him, taking her hand back and turned, taking herself to the nursary. Jensen had bought most of what Mara needed, so she started shoving diapers and some extra clothes into a bag.

Mara was suddenly watching what seemed to be a great discomfort in the room. She saw the woman packing the white things she wore all the time, and noticed her shiny eyes, as if they had been painted with water.
Mara didn't like what was going on, the man seemed to be making the woman mad, and vice versa. She started with a whimper, and then set off with a full cry, filled with sobbing. Mara wasn't screaming, she wasn't in need of anything. But her sobbing was to stop whatever was going on.

"Lina," Cyrus began as she disappeared from the room. He felt as if part of him was fading away. "Please, don't go." His voice became an almost whisper as he watched her gather Mara's things.
He wasn't sure what to do. Lina was seriously leaving him? Cyrus swallowed and noticed that Mara started crying. He stepped over to her. "Shh," he said attempting to calm her. He looked back in the direction Lina went. "Please Lina, don't, don't do this."

She didn't want to leave. She wanted him to take her in his arms and tell her how much he loved her and 'let's elope' wouldn't have hurt. But he was stubborn and he wasn't going to do it until dearl old Mum approved. Lina deserved better. Mara deserved better.
She came back, moving in front of Cyrus to pick Mara up. "You know how to stop me leaving, Cyrus," she said, her voice steady.

A frown made itself apparent on his face. Cyrus wanted to make Lina happy, but there were other things involved rather than just his parents' approval. "Lina, we've talked about this," he said with some desperation in his voice. "Please, just don't go." For the first time, Cyrus did want to just cry. Lina couldn't leave him, but he knew he couldn't stop her from leaving. He loved her and Mara more than anything, that was true. Cyrus just couldn't bring himself to ask her to marry him.

"All we ever do is talk about it, Cyrus," Lina said, letting her anger fuel her so that she didn't just completely break down in front of him. He couldn't see her do that. "I'm tired of talking, I want to do. And you're such an idiot," she said as an afterthought. "I'd be happy to wait for your parents if I thought there was something I was waiting for."
She was bouncing Mara in her arms now, and struggling to fill a couple of bottles of milk pretty much one handed.

Cyrus sighed. He was still trying to convince his mother that Lina wasn't that bad, and he wanted to marry with their approval. That was a big thing for him. He knew that his parents didn't care to much for Lina and he wanted them to.
"Having them approve of you is important Lina," said Cyrus. He sighed again and closed his mouth after that, he knew if he continued on it would just lead to another argument.

It was leading to a new argument anyway.
"My own parents don't even approve of me anymore. Why would I care if yours did? Cyrus, all I wanted was for you to propose, to show me that you at least wanted to get married. After that, I could have waited for your parents to come around. But no, you're too unsure of me, of us, to even ask. I don't know if you don't trust me, or if you're too scared of commitment... I don't know, and I'm so sick of trying to figure it out."
She finally managed to get the lid on the last bottle, and she shoved those in the diaper bag over her shoulder as well.

He knew that she was right. She was always right. Although, he wasn't unsure about her, he was unsure about himself. Too scared of commitment? Hadn't already made some kind of commitment by staying with her? It wasn't like he was just going to leave her, he loved her too much to do that. However, she was the one leaving him. Cyrus knew what he should do, but he just couldn't.
Cyrus kept his mouth closed because he didn't want to fight and knew that it would just upset Lina and Mara more. He closed his eyes for a moment. He just wished that he could just brave up enough to just ask those four words, but he couldn't bring himself to do it.

His silence infuriated her, and it broke her heart, too. There it was... she had spelled out how simple it could be, and he still wouldn't do it.
She pressed her lips to Mara's temple, wishing she would quiet. She couldn't blame her for crying though.
"At least make an effort to come see your daughter," she said, and then she pushed past him, leaving everything of hers and most of Mara's things behind.

His eyes shot open as Lina pushed past him. Lina was leaving him, really leaving, and he wasn't going to do anything about it. Were they not really as important to him as he thought?
Just as Cyrus was going to plead and practically beg Lina to stay, she had already left and closed the door behind her. He stared at the closed door for a moment and the sunk down to the floor. The apartment was eerie quiet and tears started to roll down Cyrus' cheeks. Two of the most important people in his life, his other half, just left. He started to feel more empty than he ever felt. Why couldn't he have just came out and asked her?
