"I hope that during our journey, I can find someone that will be faithful as much as I would be to her. I would actually stop seeking women at ports if I could find the one person I could end up loving and her love me back for being me, not because of my money." Christopher sighed. He would stop his rougish ways if only he could find the right woman. He would remain faithful to her for as long as he lived.
"You know Andrew, you can say more than yessir. If you want to add something onto what I say, feel free. I don't mind it."

"I'm not sure what to say sir...most men...want more than one woman...faithful is a foreign concept." she shrugged, almost as if she didn't believe his words, but then again if there was ever a man she trusted to stay true to his word it was Christopher Montgomery.
"But I'm sure if it's what you want...you'll find someway...someone."

"Yes, that can be true, however that lifestyle gets tiring. After awhile, you want to stop and just settle down and possibly start a family. I used to think that when the thought of settling down entered my mind, it was crazy. As of late, the thought has entered my mind more than once. The way I look at it is I'm not getting any younger and the longer I wait, the more difficult it will be to find a woman that would seem suitable."
Christopher sighed. He knew that he was known to be a rouge, but he did stay true to his word if nothing else. "I hope you're right Andrew. I hope you're right." He picked up the glass that was on his tray. "What about you Andrew? Have you ever thought about settling down?"

"Me sir?" she asked. Of course she thought about it. She thought about it every day. It would have been her life had she stayed at home, of course she knew she would have been intolerably miserable had she married her cousin, now she feared her chances for happily ever after were gone forever, in fact she knew they were. Blowing out the air she held in her lungs she fell into a despondent state, " Not much no.." she lied.

His expression remained soft. "You should Andrew. You should think about it more. After all, you wouldn't want all the good ones that would treat you right to already be taken do you?" Christopher looked at Andrew over his glass. "I don't think settling down would be that bad if you found the right match. Someone that was similar to you, but yet so much different. That way, you could always keep things interesting and exciting." He smiled at the thought.
"Although I suppose for a sailor that has been sailing for the past six years it is hard to find someone like that."

"Ah, but you've done it for much longer than that." she said, having completely lost her uneducated tongue, she couldn't help it when brought in for this intimate chat. She had lacked this sort of companionship for most of her time aboard the ship. That had changed when Christine took an interest in her, but even then it was easier keeping her proper tongue under the radar, it became more difficult when she was pretending to learn how to read, she gave the impression however that she was a quick learner and that was also the reason her speech was improving.
"And I believe that you'll find your girl captain."

"It would be something if I showed up to my brothers' houses with a girl on my arm. I think that they would be in pure shock, and that I believe is something I'm going to look forward too." Christopher smiled.
"I do hope your right Andrew," not commented on his sudden proper speech. "I hope there is a girl out there for me like that. And I do hope there is someone out there for you too. Maybe we'll both get lucky, eh?"

She smiled, "Well I am a bit young sir." she wasn't. Not really. Girls her age were already married and producing babies, but as a boy, due to her small stature she couldn't look older than fifteen or so.
She thought then what it would have been like to be escorted home on his arm as if she were the lady he picked. It was a natural thought since she was thinking of his dilemma and her own problems, they seemed to have merged, but she knew that scenario would never play out...even if...even if he was the man she most admired it could never work he would never look at her that way, and that was for the best.

"Maybe so, but it is never early to start looking," said Christopher. "Young ones these days are getting married early, but it is best to keep your eyes and ears open. Who knows, you might find someone when you least suspect it. The person could be right in front of you, and maybe you don't see it yet, but something will happen to cause you to see what you have been blinded to." He gave her a smile. These are the types of conversations he could never have with his brothers. They would have all looked at him like he was crazy. Christine however would look at him and nod, or give her advice on what should happen. Andrew was a perfect choice to work as his cabin boy. He felt comfortable around him, and unlike the crew, he could say stuff like this and they would laugh.

She wasn't used to it however, and it did slightly unnerve her this talk about marriage and finding the woman of her dreams. Of course it wouldn't be a *woman* of her dreams but rather a man, and such a man...well she could barely understand her present situation how did she expect a man to? This was hardly the sort of thing a lady of upstanding breeding did. And just to look at her, her hair was cropped short, her lashes cut, her face dirty and tanned...she had to keep this facade, though she longed for a bath and softer clothes perhaps even a dress of some sort. Suddenly she was feeling very much dowdy, perhaps it was all this talk of marriage, that she now wanted to appear as if she were a lady, in her finest garb...if only she could have met him under different circumstances.
"Maybe sir." she said shaking her head, there was suddenly a wealth of sadness in her eyes that she did well to hide.

Christopher nodded to Andrew. He felt bad for the boy and noticed that his clothes were tattered. "I have something for you," he said standing up from his chair and walking over to his bureau. Looking in the bottom drawer, he pulled out a pair of clothes. "These might be a little big, but they were Daniel's. They're clean and not tattered. Consider this as a thank you gift for helping me." He handed the clothes to Andrew before he returned to his seat.
"And thank you for talking. We should do this often. Maybe it'll keep us both sane while we at sea." Christopher smiled again.

"Th-thank you." she sputtered a bit unused to presents or thoughtfulness and she had to admit the clothes were of better material, not to mention bigger. She hadn't bought new clothes since she came on the ship, and while that gave her a chance to grow into the clothes that she did bring, those clothes had become a bit tattered. These new clothes were bigger easier to hide her...curves.
It wasn't that she didn't have money or that she wasn't well compensated for the work she did on the ship, but she was saving that money in hopes that she could settle down someday, perhaps live in a quiet cottage. She would miss the sea if she ever did decide to settle down, but she couldn't live this disguise forever.
She smiled at him, " I believe sir my thank you is supposed to be my pay, but these clothes are excellent, thank you very much."

"Your pay is a thank you, however the clothes are extra because you actually stayed and talked with me," Christopher smiled. "There's no need to thank me for them, but you're welcome all the same."
He turned to the tray and downed the contents in the glass. "Thank you for having this conversation with me Andrew. I must finish Christine's letter and get it sent off before she tries to scold me for not writing her." He gave a laugh. "I'm looking forward to our next conversation."

Andrea nodded and took that as her cue to leave, she turned to do so but hesitated at the door, it had been a strange, but pleasant conversation, and she didn't mind the man's company at all, she parted her lips to suggest they meet like this for breakfast when she caught her reflection in the doorknob, who was she kidding? She was doing her best to remain undercover and that wasn't going to happen if she spent to much time with him. Sighing she opened the door and left.
