"We would?" Seth whispered. Happy probably wasn't the word he would have used. If given the chance to answer, Seth was sure he would reply with something along the lines of, "I'd rather stick myself in the eye with my own wand than stay here."

Lyle's smile was wide and creepy, and far too amused. So the little princess thought she was brave, did she? Braver than his own son, it seemed, and that thought alone disgusted him. Still, the girl had no idea who she was playing with, and he would see her destroyed sooner or later. He knew his eldest would feel the same.
"Wonderful," he said. "What a better way to spend the afternoon than.... getting to know my son's friends."

Seth knew this was a bad idea. It was a very bad, stupid idea and there was no way to get Maxi to shut up without looking suspicious to his family. He sighed before deciding that iot was probably best to go on with the act everyone else was going with.
"Yea, what could be better?" Seth said, smiling a tight smile.

Maxi felt how nervous Seth was. She was not going to back down from a muggle-hating couple though, and took Seth's hand in hers again as the rest of the Inophen's sat with them. Some date... she thought. "So," Maxi started, smiling widely at Seth's father. "what did you want to know, Mr. Inophen?"

Seth knew this was a bad idea from the beginning. What was he thinking telling his mother about Maxi? Maybe he thought, just for a second, that she wouldn't tell his dad and just be happy that he son was happy? Oh who was he kidding? Seth was the black sheep of the Inophen family, and whatever this meeting with Maxi was, was a scheme classic of Lyle Inophen if Seth ever saw one.

Jarrod sat down with the rest of the family, but he remained quiet. He had tried to talk sense into Seth, but it had proven to be a waste of time. Seth was far too stubborn for his own good, and it was going to get him into trouble one day. If he couldn't get through to his brother, maybe their father could.
