"She was a really great person. And I'm betting an even better friend. I should have made more of an effort to talk with her. But at least she had you, Gia. I know that must have meant a lot to her." Evelyn put a hand on Gia's shoulder, hoping to ease her pain. She knew it was a fruitless effort, but there was very little else she could do.

Gia's eyes filled with tears, but she smiled weakly at Evelyn. It did help, just a little bit, to know that she had been able to be a good friend to Katie. She hoped that their friendship had made a difference to her. It just hurt because now Gia was all alone. How was she supposed to move on after losing the best friend she'd ever had.
"Thank you," she said. "All of you. It's so hard... I keep expecting her to walk in and ask me why I'm making such a fuss. I really miss her, you know? I just hope... where ever she is... she's happy."
