"Uh no, well I mean.." she stumbled before smiling, " Things are good." she said firmly, "Very good." then with a nod of agreement to her statement. She took a deep breath, " I wonder what we'll be doing today." she said offhandedly switching topics. She really was fine, as fine as she allowed herself to be anyway, there were some times when she would want more than what she had, but she had to squash those urges down or be disappointed.

Seth decided to go along with Lyla's topic change. "No Idea," he said. "But I hope it'll be easy," though he doubted it would be, none of the potions Slughorn had them create were simple.

That was a matter of opinion. Lyla didn't find the potions particularly hard, or easy, but she was sure that Severus thought they were very easy indeed, and she briefly wished she had the skill that Severus had. She herself was adequate, her older brother was amazing, then again he was amazing at everything in her eyes.
"I'm sure you'll do well." she said trying to bolster his confidence.

"Thanks," Seth smiled. He sincerly doubted it, but was glad for the boost of confidence from Lyla. He finished putting out his supplies and made sure he had his book with him. Seth scratched the back of his head, making sure everyting was organized. This was the extent of favors for his brother, and Seth was only doing it because doing better in potions would benifit him as well.

Severus picked a shriveled hard dark brown pod from a small vile in his kit. It was brittle and a bit heavier than it looked, in short perfect for pitching into Inophen's potion as he worked. He set it surreptitiously besides his mortar and pestle, so he could work with it in plain sight, act as if he had never noticed it and possibly carelessly pitch it away from him and have it just land in the other boy's potion. He could just also do it when no one was looking and still come off as innocent. Slughorn wouldn't blame him, he was too brilliant at potions to be blamed for mucking about with the balance of reactions that could happen. What Slughorn didn't know was that if anything, Severus had to show the older boy that he wasn't to be trifled with. Bigger and meaner men had pushed him around and he wasn't going to let someone as talentless as Inophen make fun of him. He felt so sure that the other boy would try and do the same to him. After all...they both were in Slytherin.
