Even with Sam's little plot to restore her reputation, Lyra's heart was still unrepaired. When she finally escaped her friend's good intentions she wandered around the castle, trying to clear her head. She thought better of going to the Slytherin Common Room, she didn't want to deal with any of that now. But she wouldn't have minded finding Rystain and trying to explain things, now that she had finally stopped weeping. It was probably too soon but her heart ached for him and she hoped the pain would decrease if she could just see him for a bit.
She knew he liked to go to the Trophy Room, but she had never gone there with him. She thought it best to give him his space, and time to think. She honestly had never been in the Trophy Room at the same time as him. She respected his alone time. But now, with everything that had happened, she knew if she let him have too much space, she'd never find her way back in. So she headed to the third floor, hoping he'd be there.
He wasn't. But someone else was. The door had made a loud creak, too loud to get away with ducking out of the room before she was noticed. And even though she didn't want to talk with anyone but Rystain she knew better than to shy away from everyone. It would ruin all the hard work and planning Sam had been doing. She stepped further into the room, silently looking at the case of Quidditch trophies. She saw Rystain's name and swallowed hard.

The trophies were old, and Noah liked seeing his ancestor's names gleaming on the olden gold aloung with the name "Slytherin". But now, he started noticing the Gryffindor's as well, trying to put Roman's words to heart.
Noah heard the creaking of the old door, and knew not to cast a spell, he had to be careful, unlike last time. When he did turn coolly, he noticed Lyra in a somewhat depressed state. When his eyes registered her emtion-which was disappointment- he flickered with anger. But he sighed a tad, and let it go. Lyra didn't look so good, she looked downright miserable, and even that couldn't hide from Noah's apathy toward other's radar.
He gave as real as a smile as he could, and asked, "Lyra, would you like to sit down?" He gestured to the small overstuffed armchair that Filch would sit on to watch the dententionees. It looked gross, but he'd much rather have her sitting then standing. SHe looked like she might cry, and that was never a good sign.

She could hear the sympathy in Noah's voice and it disgusted her but she was in no position to deny a friendly face. "Sure," she said, nodding. She walked over to him, then turned a little bit and plopped onto the grimy chair nearby. She didn't even bother to be light and feminine about it. What was the point?
"What are you doing here?" She tried to make her voice sound as normal as possible, but he could already tell she was a mess. There was little reason to keep the charade going, other than all of Sam's hard work. She would do it for Sam.

"Well," Noah said casually. "I'm looking at Trophies, as one is wont to do in the Trophy Room." He turned around, back toward the golden trophy, boldly blaring the title "Slytherin Cup" and the name of Abraxas Malfoy, his uncle. He swelled with pride, then slowly turned back to Lyra. She was a girl, and girl were known for holding their stead, weren't they? She really didn't need his help, and he wasn't obliged to give it. "Are you insinuating there is another purpose for this room?"

Lyra shook her head. She didn't know what he was getting at, whether he was questioning her question, or proposing something else. But either way the answer was no. She generally liked Noah but he was a guy and at present he was also the enemy. Her feelings about him were currently conflicted.
"Is that your father?" She had followed his gaze to one of many Slytherin Quidditch trophies and saw the name Malfoy. She hadn't talked about family with either Noah or Lucius before, so she didn't know if Abraxas was his father, a cousin, or something else.

Noah chcukcled quietly. Lyra didn't want to talk, and that made him feel like this conversation would actually accomplish something. Girls and their feelings made him feel uncomfortable, of course. They should make an red- blooded male feel like jumping in front of the train.
"No, that is my uncle, he's Lucius's father. Quite the Quidditch player in his time," Noah smirked. "Lucius was always jealous he couldn't be as fantastic as his father. It always tore him apart when Abraxas praised me instead of him at the estate."

She smiled faintly. "I'll bet he hated when you came to visit. Family reunions must have been a great spectacle." She found this conversation distracting enough that her normal tone started to appear as she spoke. Though her jaw did flex when she thought about Quidditch, as Rystain was the captain of the Slytherin team. But she focused on the fueding Malfoys instead.

"Quite," Noah turned back to Lyra and leaned aginst the glass behind him. "I don't believe I can remember why I stopped talking to Lucius in the first place. He did end up outrunning me in many other categories in life. He's of higher status in my family, and I can see that as acceptable." He flipped his hair out of his face. "How's your family relations?"

She didn't give much thought to Noah's strained relationship with his cousin. She could comment, but trying to decipher the problems with the Malfoys was something she didn't care for. But, as Noah was much more approachable than Lucius had been, she did feel bad for him in some ways. In a perfect world family status between Purebloods would be meaningless. But he was right, and Lucius was of a higher breed than Noah. She gave him a sympathetic smile.
"Not as interesting as yours, I'd imagine," she replied to his question. She was sure he was only asking to be polite, and she appreciated that. "I get on well enough with my cousins, although Claire and I have had our moments. But as she lives in Egypt now I doubt we'll have any issues for a while." She paused momentarily. "I suppose Aubri and I have a good enough relationship, for sisters. I know worse, that's for sure. But I think she's jealous of my popularity."

"Aubri? Does she attend Hogwarts? My siblings are not in this school, and I'm glad. Having to deal with a bratty 12 year old is not quite appealing to me, and I highly doubt any one would like dealing with the prepubescent twerp," Noah sighed.
Lyra had given him a sympathetic smile, and that was a bit uneasy. He wasn't sure what was going through her head, and he wasn't sure what to expect out of it. But he was having a bit of fun nontheless.

"Yes, Aubrielle. I'm sure you know her. She's only a year younger than you. Though I think neither of us really like admitting we are related, so we don't talk too much about it. There are some people who don't even put two and two together and figure it out for themselves." She giggled as she made a shot at him. "Its not like we're Malfoys or Blacks or something. How many Newburys are there? You're lucky you don't have to deal with little siblings here. Its not picnic, I'll tell you."

"I'd prefer not to deal with my sibling at all," Noah gave Lyra a half smile. "You are correct in believing that. And you are also correct in telling me that I probaby wouldn't have put two and two together. I don't see much of a resemblence. I don't believe I've had much contact with your little sister, but I've seen her around quite a bit in the common room. I can't imagine living with Axel. He's a terror."

"Thank you! I hate it when people say we look alike. I don't see it at all and its clear who got the looks in our family." She chuckled and shifted in her chair. "Where does Axel attend, f not Hogwarts?" It was strange to Lyra that siblings would not attend the same school. But again, she knew little about Noah's family life, and there could be a very good reason why the boys were seperated.

Noah gave her one of his infamous smirks. This was the first time she had seemed geniunely apart from whatever had been bothering her. "You're quite welcome, and it is quite evident. As for Axel? He is only 10, and isn't old enough to attend Hogwarts quite yet. Thank goodness. I'll only have to deal with him for a year before I leave this place. I find myself quite lucky. He's a mischevious prat, and always gets into trouble."

"Oh, I was under the impression he was older than that. I don't know why... Nevermind then." She laughed off her mistake and continued on. "That's nice that you'll only have one year here together. Its been a pain having Aubrielle only two years behind me."

"It will. Hopefully he stays out of my life, and I'll gladly stay out of his," Noah rolled his eyes, imagining the pain that Axel would bring him. "And as for you, this is your last year with Aubrielle. What will you be doing with your life, Lyra?"

"Ah, that question again..." There was not one precise answer that could be expected from Lyra's painted lips. She had tossed about a few ideas recently, the most logical being a party planner. But then, that would not be the most respectable position she could take. Although it might be the most fun. Unlike many of her housemates, Lyra was not driven by a particular goal in life. She had broad goals, to be sure, but the precise always seemed to evade her. The main and most notable trait of a Slytherin was their ambition and drive to prove themselves. Speaking strictly in the career mindset, Lyra was neither. If she did not end up being a party planner, she would not be heartbroken. And if she did then it would be fine by her. Her Slytherin characteristics laid outside any set career path, to be discussed at a later date.
"I don't know that I've completely figured that out just yet," she answered truthfully. "I've kicked around a few ideas, but none of them are too prestigious. I don't know that I'm cut out for prestige." She laughed to mask the hurt, knowing that that was perhaps the reason she had not been good enough for Rystain whereas Lani had.
It seemed everything returned to Rystain in some way or another.

Noah watched her head turn gears for a few seconds before hearing her reply. She seemed honest, unlike many of the other overheard coversations that he had accidentally listened to. He really didn't like hearing what other people planned to do with their lives, but at least Lyra was pretty straightforward.
"I think it's ridiculous to have us plan the rest of our lives right now," Noah leaned back against the case even more. "Personally, I believe your answer has been the most straightforward. One bloke believed he'd be the head of the Department of Quidditch in two years. And as for prestige?" Noah narrowed his eyes, "If you really are a pureblood and have good connections, why isn't something trivial prestigious. It's not your job, it's your lifestyle that determines what you will be in life."

Lyra laughed. This whole conversation with Noah proved to her that she needed to talk outside of her group more. She knew barely anything about Noah, and he knew hardly anything about her. "Well, unfortunately, I'm not a pureblood. My mum's side of the family is, but not my dad's. So I guess your rule doesn't apply to me." She, like most of her housemates, believed that blood purity meant something. She had enough magic in her family tree for her to justify feeling that she was better than others. But she knew the Blacks, Malfoys, Lestranges, Burkes, and the like were much better than her.

"Tousche," Noah grinned. "And yet, here you are, talking about prestige as if you were my father. I don't believe that just because you become a tour guide, you will become slag that lives the life of infidelity and under the radar. Just make sure you don't associate with people below us. It's that simple," Noah waved his hand. "Changes can also be made to something as versatile as a career, but blood is thicker then water."
It always bother Noah when his father recited the 'astronomy' lecture. Noah almost had all the words down pat, and he didn't have any interest in being a tychoon like his father. He'd rather just sip fire whiskey while watching the stars. His friends would be there if they decided to do so, but it wouldn't change the way he viewed life.
