Lani ran a hand through her hair, closing her book and putting her parchment away. She might have felt better if she knew she had pissed off lyra. As it was, her blood was boiling and she was forcing herself not to cry.
She put away all her things and left the library, puttinh the scene behind her, heading for the astronomy tower to cool off.

"Have a nice cat fight?" she asked after thanking the librarian kindly. She didn't bat a lash or turn to face her friend but her voice had a hint of amusement in it. Taking the book that she had checked out she finally turned to face Lyra and raised an eyebrow.

Lyra scowled at Sam while her back was turned, but it was relatively funny how nonchalant she was about it and that made her smile momentarily. When Samantha moved out of the way Lyra slide her book on the counter to the librarian without a word and turned toward the desk where her things were. "Have a nice time eavesdropping?" She was slightly sarcastic and slightly teasing. Sam was her friend and was allotted so many catty remarks.

She laughed, "You nearly made the girl cry in the middle of the library love, that's hardly eavesdropping, hell serve a meal and I'd call it dinner and a show." she smirked. She didn't really care about the fight between Lyra and Lani, it wasn't any of her business, but Lyra's, Lani's, and well Rystain. She shook her head and washed her hands of the whole thing, but teasing was another matter.

"Nearly," she reiterated. "So close..." She laughed then before adding, "If you'd like I could arrange a second showing in the common room for you later. You know, give you time to get a bowl of popcorn or something." She was glad that Lani was almost in tears. The tramp deserved it although if asked, it would be rather hard for Lyra to find the appropriate words to describe what offense the girl had done.

"Godric forbid." Sam said making a cross over her heart, "The poor girl." she recognized Lani from their first meeting and a few meetings after that, she didn't know her well but she assumed that Lani didn't really deserve the harsh beating Lyra was throwing her way, it was a jealousy pure and simple but someone was going to get hurt in the end and it would be unplesant.

"Don't pity her. She needed to know the truth. Really I was only helping her. I'm a fan of tough love." Lyra did not care for the tone in which Sam was speaking to her, as if Lyra had done something wrong. She could not see anything wrong with informing Lani that she was not the only girl in Rystain's bed on a regular basis.

"Bite your tongue Lyra Newbury, Samantha Montgomery pities no one." it wasn't true but she said it with enough force and mock outrage that it was to be believed. "Besides," she shrugged, " I love Rystain, in the short time I've known him I imagine that he's a very easy man to love, but any girl who gets romantically involved with him should know what their up against when they're going in, they'll get no pity from this corner."

"Good," she replied. "For a second I thought I would have to find a new friend." She laughed teasingly as they reached the table where her things were. She gathered them and shoved everything into her book bag which she slung over her shoulder. "Are you staying here to study?"

"Actually I came to entice you away from studying." she stated, "Perhaps catch an early dinner at Le Repas Cher, I know we've been frequenting that place but it is the only acceptable restaurant nearby, and my father just set up a private account, so I thought we'd celebrate." she said with the proper amount of pomp and circumstance but there was a light teasing to her voice.

Lyra raised her eyebrow at the suggestion. "That sounds fun. Did you have anyone else in mind or is this a private party?" She had been doing nothing but school work today and needed a break. "I just have to drop this off at my room first." She shrugged the shoulder that her book bag was on.

"Invite whomever you wish." she smiled she just might as well although she briefly wondered if Lyra would invite Rystain and in turn make Lani upset just for the sake of making Lani upset. She rolled her eyes inwardly, she wasn't trying to start a war as fun as the notion was, she just wanted dinner.

They headed out of the library as they discussed dinner. Lyra didn't have anyone in mind, and would be perfectly fine with just having a girls night out with Sam. She told Sam as much.
